Story
Benny is a 4 year old Saint Bernard with a heart as big as his paws. At 102 lbs (he needs to gain 10-15 more lbs), he’s a giant who believes personal space is overrated. Despite his size, Benny is convinced he’s a lap dog and is happiest when he is laying on top of you. He wants pets all the time and will paw you if you dare stop petting him. He’s the kind of dog who makes sure you’re never lonely. If you’re sitting, he’s touching you. If you stand up, he’s right behind you. Bathroom buddy? Of course. Cooking? Your supervisor is on duty next to you. Doing yard work? Don't work he will be laying at your side. He loves him walks and typically doesn't pull unless he sees a squirrel. But he does bark at people/other dogs who dare to exist and does need redirecting. Benny loves playing fetch, zooming around the yard. Benny is dog friendly but since he believes all personal space is his personal space, not every dog will appreciate his invasion of their space. This boy is extremely food motivated. All food is his favorite food, which makes him eager to please and will be great for continued training. He’s very tolerant of grooming and brushing (which is good, because he’ll need regular brushing to keep that gorgeous coat in check). As expected from his breed, Benny drools. A lot. If you believe slobber is a love language, you’ll fit right in. While he goes willingly into his crate and sleeps in it through the night and doesn’t attempt to claw his way out of it, he will bark his head off for a good while. Benny is dog friendly, kid friendly, up to date on vaccines, and neutered. He’s sweet, affectionate, and ready to be someone’s oversized shadow for life. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will love you with his whole (very large) body, Benny might just be your perfect match. Story
River is an old soul looking for his soulmate - could you be his person?  River had a tough start in life and came to PAW quite frightened of the world.  With the endless love and dedication of his foster family he has begun to feel secure - and to blossom.  Now he needs to find his forever home where a loving adopter will continue the process to help him to become the dog he is meant to be. River is a gentle giant.  At 2 & 1/2 and 70 pounds, he is a big fluffy love bug.  At first River can be anxious around new people and in new environments - but once warmed up, he loves people (including children) and other dogs. In fact, River must have another dog in the house as he follows the lead of his current foster brother and has learned so much from him! River loves running and playing in the yard.  Because he is still working on leash walking, River's forever home must have a fenced-in yard.  It will be important to continue leash training and exposure to new situations. This is the best way to build River's confidence and to teach him that the wide world is a fun place to explore!  River's daily medication helps calm him down, and this is something that his forever person will need to continue for River's benefit and comfort.  If you think you could be the one for River, apply to adopt today! PAW places animals in the DC, MD, northern VA, and southern PA area only. ##1836418##
