Story
Poor Fireball was surrendered to the shelter for "landlord issues". She had a litter of 5 adorable puppies a week after arriving at the shelter and is currently settling and working on her daily routine. She's very hesitant currently of anyone being near her babies but she's being a great momma and they are chunky, happy and gaining adorable puppy weight. She will need a patient adopter once her babies are weaned, one that will give her time to acclimate to a new environment and settle on her terms. We would love to find an adopter before she's ready that can come and spend time with her several times prior to completing an adoption. Story
Puppies are a lot of fun, but also a lot of responsibility! Things you should be aware of before adopting a puppy from the Denver Animal Shelter:* Puppies will need regular socialization. The critical time period for socialization is between 8 and 16 weeks, but it is important to continue to socialize your new pup throughout their young life. This means having positive and enjoyable interactions with as many new people, new dogs, and new environments as possible. Appropriate socialization will help puppies grow into healthier and more social adults.* They will not know what is appropriate to chew on, where they should go to the bathroom, and how to behave in all situations. Puppies require a lot of time spent on training, management, and supervision. It is recommended that puppies be crate trained or kept in a puppy-proofed room of the house with appropriate chew toys and enrichment when not actively supervised. The Denver Animal Shelter always recommends positive reinforcement-based training methods. * Puppies in a shelter environment often have unknown parentage. While we make our best guesses on size and breed, we cannot guarantee their adult temperament, behavior, size, or characteristics.More about this puppy: This lovely boy is Rubio, a German Shepherd/Poodle mix. He`s a sweet guy but can be shy and sensitive with handling, so is best suited for a home with kids who are at least 10.

Story
All people inquiring about pets listed as Courtesy Listings on the EAPL website and/or EAPL posting adoption boards should contact the current pet owner/rescue/shelter for answers to any questions and for final approval and placement. Please do not contact EAPL  about courtesy listings. The pet owner/rescue/shelter and new owner shall make all arrangements on transferring the pet, information on history, vaccines, etc.  I f interested please email  jmchadwick78@gmail.com Sammy is a labradoodle, his father is a standard poodle and his mother is a labradoodle. Sammy is a 1.5 years old male who is neutered. He weighs about 50 lbs, is blond and does not shed. He has only been around a few other dogs and did fine, he has never been around cats so I am not sure how he would do. Sammy loves kids but has never been let loose around them. He adores my 11 month old grandson and gives him kisses through the gate or kennel. Sammy is a very sweet boy who loves attention, giving kisses and running and playing. If he isn’t able to find someone to play with he will play catch by himself, which is very cute. He know general commands but does need some work. He does pretty good with walking with a gentle leader but get distracted easily.  I am not able to give him the attention he needs or the good life he deserves and that is why I am needing to rehome him.  I love these him so much and that is why I have to do this. He deserves the best life possible!    May 1, 2024, 9:31 am

Story
Leo is a lovable, 7 year old, Standard Poodle, whose friendly demeanor and playful antics steal hearts wherever he goes. He weighs 45-pounds. Leo adores human attention, eagerly seeking out affection and delightfully attempting to snatch treats from unsuspecting visitors' bags, showcasing his mischievous charm. His fondness for treats hints at a promising future in training. Leo's spa days are a testament to his sweet nature, as he patiently stands for grooming, exuding grace and gentleness. Leo gets along well with female dogs and would be open to sharing a home with a canine companion, but he does not require one.A stellar leash walker, Leo eagerly embraces outdoor adventures, relishing every opportunity for a stroll. With his radiant personality and endearing charm, Leo promises to infuse any adoptive family with boundless joy and laughter. As he awaits his forever home at National Mill Dog Rescue, Leo eagerly anticipates the chance to shower his new family with love and happiness.- - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. Because some of our dogs are very under socialized, they may not be a good fit for young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, many of these dogs come around with patience and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience.
