Story
Meet Mishka!Mishka is a loving, affectionate Standard Poodle looking for an active forever home. She would thrive with someone who enjoys the outdoors, has a secure fenced yard, and can spend time with her. She is highly intelligent, eager to please, and learns quickly with consistent training.Mishka is current on all vaccinations. She gets along well with dogs her size or larger and may enjoy a canine companion. She also has elevated liver enzymes, managed with a once-daily pill. She would benefit from an owner who can continue reinforcing her leash manners and reliable recall. She is not a good fit for dog parks, as she is reactive toward smaller dogs and may bark and lunge at them. She is also alert and vocal, making her an excellent watchdog.Mishka's ideal family will provide structure, exercise, mental stimulation, high-quality nutrition, and lots of love. In return, she'll reward you with loyalty, affection, and companionship.

Story
I'm a poodle mix and I'm a great girl. I was returned to PCHS because my owner fell ill and couldn't care for me any longer. I'd sure like to find a new home where I can thrive. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2306698##

Story
Meet Sprocket, a 4-year-old Poodle mix with a big personality and a heart full of potential. Sprocket has had a rough start and comes with a history of reactivity and biting. He’s a scared dog who needs a firm, experienced owner to help him feel secure and establish boundaries. Sprocket has had training sessions and responds well to clear, consistent leadership. Once he knows you’re in charge, he’s much more relaxed and doesn’t push back. However, he does react to new people and should wear a muzzle during initial introductions for safety. Despite his challenges, Sprocket has no health issues and thrives on affection from his trusted person. He enjoys being cuddled and will show his sweet side once he’s built trust. If you’re an experienced dog owner ready to provide a structured, loving environment, Sprocket could be a rewarding companion. He’s looking for someone who can help him overcome his fears and show him the love and stability he deserves.

Story
I have a 3 yr old black male whoodle (wheaton terrier/poodle mix). We adopted Theo in 2023 from a breeder in Byers, Co. The breeder is Green Valley Kennel. Theo's birthday is 3/23/23. He is up to date on vaccinations, we take him to Goodheart Vet in Lowry which is in Denver. We have 7 and 11 yr old children. Theo is mainly with us and never around any other dogs other than when we take him on walks. He's never been trained. Theo is very energetic and friendly. At first, with new people he is jumpy and curious and once he establishes trust he is fine, but it takes awhile. I groom and wash Theo myself because tends to get nippy with strangers. I have to place a muzzle on Theo when we go to the vet, to the pet washing store and sometimes on walks. Last September, Theo's vet prescribed Trazadone for him to take prior to bathing and grooming. It has worked out well. Theo travels very well on road trips. He loves carrots, celery, gala apples, canned salmon & tuna. Theo is also crate trained.

Story
Iris is a sweet 3-year-old girl looking for a patient, understanding home that will let her build trust at her own pace. She takes time to warm up to new people, but once you've earned her trust, you'll have an incredibly loyal, affectionate companion by your side. She is well-behaved for grooming, has a solid foundation in basic obedience, and is crate trained. Whether you're looking for a relaxed couch companion or a quiet adventure buddy, Iris is happy to be wherever her favorite person is. She is also comfortable spending time alone while you're at work and does not struggle with separation anxiety. Iris would do best in an adult-only home. She gets along well with dogs her size or larger, though she appreciates slow, thoughtful introductions. Once she's comfortable, she enjoys having a canine friend to roughhouse and play with. Like many dogs who have experienced challenges, Iris has some behavioral needs that her future family should be prepared to manage.

Story
Meet Freddie our sweet one year old poodle mix. He weighs 15 pounds full grown. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on all his vaccines. The vet sent him home with a clean bill of health and is now ready to find a home all his own. He is house trained and goes outside to do his business every couple hours when needed. Inside the home, he's pretty independent and keeps to himself unless you're calling him over for some love and attention. He's not the type to demand affection, but he absolutely soaks it up when it's offered. He is still getting the hang of walking on a leash and building confidence as his previous life as a breeder dog didn't include many outings, so everything is still a little unfamiliar to him but he's making steady progress. He enjoys spending quiet time out in the yard and will happily hang out on his own, especially if he's not quite ready to come inside. He's a bit of a hide and seek pro when he wants to be. Every day he gets a little braver, a little more curious, and a little more confident. He currently sleeps in his crate peacefully at night but I'm sure he would love his own bed next to yours if you prefer. He sleeps soundly through the night and settles in easily when you need to step out. What he needs now is someone with patients and a gentle heart, someone who understands that love and trust take time to grow. He'd thrive in a calm, nurturing home where he can continue building confidence at his own pace. His adoption fee is $1500 which covers all vet costs, care and training since the time he's been with us. Get in touch with us today and share details about yourself, the loving home you can provide, and your experience with the breed. Located in Hesperia CA. We offer transportation to you so long as it's covered by the adopter. We will be in contact with you shortly. Thank you!

Story
Adoption Fee: $475 When available, all animals are fixed in accordance with Colorado law, up to date on vaccines (may need boosters), and microchipped! **This dog does NOT attend adoption events. Luigi is available through private meet and greets only. Please email info@coloradopuppy.org AND complete an adoption application if you have not already, if you are interested in Luigi.** What we know: Luigi came to Colorado Puppy Rescue as a bottle baby in December 2025 after a pregnant dog, who was scheduled for a spay-abort at one of the veterinary clinics CPR works with, went into labor before the procedure. The puppies were relinquished to the clinic, which initially reached out to CPR for help with two 1-day-old puppies, including Luigi. Another puppy was adopted by a veterinary technician, while the remaining three stayed with clinic staff until one sadly passed away. At 9 days old, the final two puppies were transferred to CPR's care. As he grew, Luigi developed much more slowly than his siblings and began experiencing seizures. He was eventually adopted by his foster family but was later returned when they realized they could not provide the lifelong medical care he requires, and their busy lifestyle made it difficult to keep his seizures well managed. Luigi will need daily seizure medication for the rest of his life, and his future family should be prepared for the ongoing time, commitment, and financial responsibility that come with his medical needs. From the foster: I’m pretty cute, right? Well, this cute little face comes with some very important medical needs. You see, I have a seizure disorder, so it’s very important that my future family understands what life with me will look like. I take anti-seizure medication three times a day (every 8 hours), every day, and keeping me on a consistent schedule is essential. I’m looking for a family whose lifestyle allows them to reliably meet my medical needs. Although I will always experience seizures, I will require my family’s close collaboration with a veterinarian to ensure the ongoing management of my care. Despite my medical needs, I’m a happy, affectionate little guy with so much love to give. I get along great with other dogs, absolutely adore kids, and my favorite place is wherever my people are. I’m not much of a crate fan—I would much rather be by your side, and at bedtime, I’m happiest snuggled up in bed with my humans. I’m still working on potty training and will thrive with a patient, consistent family who will continue helping me learn. Like any 7-month-old puppy, I have lots of playful puppy energy! I love to chew, give kisses, and lick my favorite people whenever I get the chance. I can also be a pretty vocal guy. New sights, sounds, and unfamiliar things can make me excited, so I like to let everyone know what I think with a few barks. If you’re looking for a sweet, loyal companion and are ready to commit to my special needs while giving me the consistency I need, I promise to fill your life with love, kisses, and endless puppy cuddles. www.coloradopuppy.org/how-to-adopt
