Please meet Milo The Poodle. Milo is a big, beautiful, sweet natured guy. He came from a small shelter in Texas where he was never reclaimed and was up for euthanasia. Milo is big, as stated, and comes in at 73 lbs. He’s a tall and thick boy, but he doesn’t throw his weight around. He’s house trained, well mannered on leash, doesn’t jump up, and is very affectionate with his people. Milo doesn’t enjoy being alone but he’s adapting well to crate training. He is dog friendly and we suspect he used to live with a Great Dane, as that’s what he entered the Texas shelter with. Milo hasn’t been tested with small kiddos or cats. Christopher is 3 1/2 yr old. I adopted him 1 yr ago not thinking far enough in the future. I am widowed, retired and on fixed income. I can’t afford to keep him. He’s a wonderful companion but has separation anxiety. I can’t leave him in a crate without drugging him so I take him to daycare when I have to be away from home. He loves people, will play with other dogs if I’m not there. He gets the zoomies once in a while when outside but is happy with a 1/2 hr walk daily. He walks on a loose lead unless there’s a rabbit around. His recall is not reliable. He does bark at everything moving past the house. He is funny when he’s wanting something like a rawhide bone. I have a video of one of those times. I acquired him from a man who’d had him for about 8 months and was moving to Wyoming..he didn’t want to take him with him. That person got him because the original owner said he barked too much. So, I’m his 3rd. He is smart and would benefit from training that I can’t afford.

Hi, I'm Esmee! I'm  an 8 month old Standard Poodle with a heart full of love and curiousity. I'm a sweet girl and like to make friends with everyone. I'm smart too and I will do just about anything for a treat. Are you in need of a new family member?  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2188769##
