Meet Chio! He is the sweetest boyl! He is a 2 year old that was rescued from a breeding farm before heading to a dog meat farm in South Korea. We have partners we work with there that pull these dogs from the worst horrors imaginable. Many of these dogs start off in horiffic puppy mill type facilities on tiny rabbit cage size wire crates in complete filth. If they are not sold at 6 or 8 weeks then they either stay for a couple years to be used to breed more and then are sold off to the meat trade, or they are sold off right away. Jindo's and Tosa's are the most common meat type dogs, and are very commonly bred specifically for their meat and the meat farms also act as breeding farms until they reach a good age and weight. South Korea is one of the only countries that actually farms dogs for their meat. Restaurants will serve a dish called " bosintang ", which stands for "dog meat soup". It's a popular dish in South Korea, and is said to act as an aphrodisiac for men. Little dogs are used for elixirs and potions. The younger generation is mostly against this practice and many choose to not eat them, and we can only hope in time with education and generations of change that an end will come to this horrific trade. Chio and some of his family and friends have been flown here for a chance at a future and a real life. These are miracle dogs that they are alive today. Korea who have their own private shelter and/or foster network. Our dogs stay with either a foster family or a private shelter until they are matched with an adopter in the US. Upon arrival in the US, our dogs stay in foster homes or in boarding, as we do not have a physical facility. These dogs are identified with "in LA" in their names. *Meet Memo! 🐾* Memo is an 8-10 year old Toy Poodle (found 7/5/26, not neutered / no chip, no owner came forward) and he is the sweetest, quietest little soul. He spends most of his day sleeping and resting, gets along great with other dogs, and just wants a calm corner to call his own. About two weeks after he was found he started having seizures — he's been seen by a vet and is now on medication. Because of that, he doesn't tolerate being touched or petted right now and will growl or air-snap (he has very few teeth) to ask for space, so it's best to let him set the boundaries. He still does great on walks with a leash. Memo isn't looking for a cuddler, he's looking for a patient, understanding person who will give him time, quiet, and safety on his own terms. Meet Memo He is a sweet, quiet, and gentle dog who spends much of his time sleeping and resting. He is an 8-10 year old toy poodle. He gets along well with other dogs and does not cause problems with them. However, he has some behaviors that may be related to his seizures or possible neurological issues. He does not currently tolerate being touched or petted. When someone attempts to caress or handle him, he may growl, turn around, or attempt to nip. He does not have many teeth, but he will still react as though he is trying to bite. Because of this, we avoid forcing physical contact and give him the space he needs. Likes: • Being around other dogs • Quiet and calm surroundings • Sleeping and resting • Wet food • Having his space respected Dislikes: • Being touched or petted • Being handled or restrained • Someone reaching toward him or attempting to caress him Additional Information: Approximately two weeks after he was found, he began experiencing seizures. He has since been evaluated by a veterinarian and is receiving medication, which we administer in his wet food because he does not allow us to handle him. Although he has difficulty tolerating physical touch, he is otherwise a very quiet and sweet dog. He gets along well with other dogs and appears to be most comfortable when he is allowed to rest and have his personal space. His behavior around handling may be influenced by his medical or neurological issues, so he would likely do best with someone who is patient, understanding, and willing to give him the time and space he needs to feel safe.
