! Willie is a retired coon dog. He retired over two years ago when he ran off on the job and came to us instead. His owner was located but failed to return calls to claim him, so here he sits, waiting to meet you instead!!! He is pretty chill and quite the love. The lady dogs love Willie! He is kid friendly, but older and/or understanding kids would probably be best because this sweet old man prefers naps over fetch in the yard. He has not been tested with cats, but given his background of chasing small animals, we can say it would probably be best if he had a home with no cats. Willie is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and current on prevention.  **Seniors interested in adopting seniors** We know money can be tight so please contact us about special adoption rates. Hi, my name is Sister.Don't mind me while I happily rest here in my kennel. I can be shy with strangers at first since I used to live with a close-net small family. Maybe with a couple of visits, I can start to warm up to you! I prefer to be in a home with young adults or older kids, as children can be overstimulating for me. Other than that, I enjoy relaxing and running a couple of rounds around the yard. With that, a nice long hike sounds enjoyable! I prefer to be a one pet home, I tend to be picky with my dog friends.I am spayed, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. I am also on current flea and tick prevention. My adoption fee is FREE, due to a very generous donor sponsoring my adoption fee.Please feel free to visit me anytime during the shelter's open hours Monday through Friday 11am-5pm and Saturdays 10am-2pm.

Poppy is one of those happy, outgoing senior girls that ended up at a kill shelter through no fault of her own. She is a perfect house guest, has good house manners and can be trusted to stay out of everything. She is a typical Basset Hound, all about nosing around and looking for squirrels to tree and bark at. She gets along with all the other dogs in her foster home unless someone wants to invade her kennel space; even when the door is open she knows it is her kennel and she does not want to share her room (or her treats/food). Poppy has lots of energy, takes showing the puppies how to be good dogs seriously and does a great job of chasing the birds. She loves attention and humans of all sizes and ages. She would be a great travel companion, once she’s in the car she loves to ride. She is even great about ongoing ear maintenance that Basset Hounds require.She is fully vetted - current with her vaccines, spayed, on flea/tick and heartworm prevention and she is microchipped.

Benny is a senior boy with lots of energy, enthusiasm, love and affection. He lives with lots of other dogs and gets along with everyone. He would love to chase the cats if he could so might not be good in a home with cats. He loves a chance to use his Beagle voice but is not an excessive barker; only uses it when he has a reason. He loves being with his human almost as much as treat and meal times. He isn’t much for car rides, he is good about riding but whines seems nervous wondering where he’s going. Guessing in the past car rides did not end in fun activities for him. He’s a very social boy, loves humans of all sizes and ages and is always happy for rubs and attention. Benny has great house manners and although he uses a crate in his foster home he would be fine without one once he knows his routine. He is fully vetted - current with his vaccines, neutered, on heartworm and flea/tick prevention and he is microchipped.

Story

Hi! This is Pepper, a 7 year old beagle/lab mix. She was adopted around 3 years ago in North Carolina, but has been in Texas for 2 years. She is the absolute sweetest dog in the world. I’ve never seen her get aggressive. As Pepper has gotten older, she’s needed more frequent bathroom breaks, which has been challenging with my busy schedule. Pepper is slightly chunky at 40ish pounds, but that doesn’t stop her from running around and (usually) keeping up with other dogs. Ideally, Pepper would love a fenced yard as she likes to explore and can be stubborn at times. Something to note is that she does not enjoy fireworks and squeaky toys. It’s my hope that Pepper finds a caring family or couple that will love her as she transitions into her senior years.
