Story
If happiness had a face, it would probably look a lot like Jay Smiles. This joyful little guy seems to wake up every day convinced that life is the greatest thing ever, and his constant smile proves it. Seriously, just scroll through his photos…he’s grinning in almost every single one. Jay has that kind of sunny, feel-good personality that naturally lifts the mood of everyone around him. His tail is always wagging, his spirit is always bright, and he carries himself like a tiny little ray of sunshine wherever he goes. One of the sweetest things about Jay is how his whole face lights up when he’s around other dogs. The moment he spots a canine friend, his joy somehow manages to grow even bigger. Whether he’s bouncing around the yard playing a happy game of chase or simply enjoying the company of another pup, Jay’s cheerful personality shines the brightest when he’s sharing the fun. Between his constant smile, his joyful energy, and his naturally happy heart, Jay is the kind of dog who makes every day feel a little brighter just by being in it. Watch his video and feel his joy radiate off the screen: https://youtu.be/YRirt-kGhp4?si=yEti_XOumYNbaZsE Jay Smiles is believed to be a whippet/chihuahua mix approximately 1 year old and currently weighs 27 lbs. Yep, that’s right! He is a little guy not even 30 lbs. He is not too big and not too small, the perfect size. Jay is a rescue dog and with any rescue it’s always a mystery and we cannot guarantee breed or age. We do know that Jay is as sweet as they come and to add to his greatness, he is essentially a full-grown puppy with that adorable puppy face of his. This little guy loves to love and once he does, it’s game over! Next thing you know, you have a bestie to explore with, a snuggly buddy to binge watch your favorite show with, and the sole reason why your camera roll will always be full. Though Jay can be a little shy at first with new people and in new environments, it does not take long for him to open up. Within minutes he’s giving you all the kisses and showing off his cute bunny-hop dance moves. Jay does come off as a ladies man for sure. He will be looking to give all of his love and affetion to the ladies in his life. He opens up quickly and bonds faster to the women in his life. While Jay may be a bit of a slow burn when it comes to warming up to new people, he’s the complete opposite with other dogs. He absolutely loves other dogs and the second he is with another doggy friend, you see his personality shine the brightest. Jay enjoys romping around the yard with other dogs, playing a game of “tag, you’re it,” and occasionally engaging in a little rumble-and-tumble wrestling session with the right match. Because he blossoms so beautifully around other pups, we would absolutely love to see Jay in a home with at least one other dog. He opens up quickly with his canine companions and would likely thrive in a multi-dog household. Jay is currently fostered with multiple dogs but his best friend is a gal named Anna Frozen. Another girl in our program. These two are the best of friends. They love to explore their fosters acreage offleash, share toys, play some tug, and you will often find them sleeping together. Where one goes the other follows. Jay truly knows how to make dog friends! Jay also met our house cat Biggie and met him appropriately and was very respectful around him. He did not chase Biggie, nor was he bothered by Biggie jumping or doing what cats do. Biggie also felt comfortable around him as well. We do not know if he has ever lived in a home before with a cat and this was our first time seeing him with one. If you have a cat in the home, we can arrange for him to have a sleepover with a cat upon request. Just let us know! Jay has a perfectly balanced energy, making him a great companion to take with you on leisurely walks throughout the neighborhood and then snuggle with you on the couch after. He walks well on a leash and hardly ever pulls. Jay is treat motivated and he already knows how to sit. He is also crate trained and potty trained as well. He really is a gentle, wonderful little guy. Jay would thrive in a home with a semi-active family looking for a buddy to take on adventures, explore those trails you have saved on the map, and be a loving companion to show what it means to be loved and cherished. He would do best in a home with a backyard in the suburbs where he can stretch his legs, romp around, and enjoy the sunshine rather than in the heart of the city. We are willing to test Jay Smiles with anything you need in order to ensure it's a perfect match. We can make anything happen! Just let us know. Ready to welcome a new furry friend into your life? I started life in South Korea on a dog meat farm, and though I still carry a few little scars from that time, my heart has healed so much. With the help of some kind trainers, I’ve learned what love feels like—and now I’m ready to share it with my very own person. At first, I can be a little shy and cautious (old habits!), but once I trust you, my sweetness shines all the way through. I become playful, happy, and full of zoomies—I’ll even make you laugh with my goofy side. I love to run, I love to learn, and nothing makes me happier than knowing I’ve made you smile.I think I’d be happiest as your one-and-only furry friend, since other dogs aren’t quite my cup of tea. But honestly? With a heart as big as mine, I’ll fill your world with more than enough love. A securely fenced yard would be wonderful for me, along with a patient person who’ll keep helping me grow braver and more confident every day.I may have had a tough beginning, but I haven’t let it dim my spirit. Now I just need someone to see the sweet, devoted, silly girl I am and say, “That’s my dog.” My name’s Darcy—and I can’t wait to make you smile too. At this pivotal stage in her life, Nyssa is ready to flourish and thrive with the loving family she deserves. Intelligent and eager to learn, Jack Russells excel with proper guidance, and with the Whippet’s calm and gentle nature, Nyssa is the ideal partner for anyone excited about training and outdoor fun. Just imagine the incredible bond you could create together!   It’s important to note that this unique breed has a strong prey drive, so its future home should be free of small animals and cats. To ensure a harmonious environment, we are particularly looking for families with children over 10 years old who have experience with dogs.   Nyssa's stunning short coat boasts beautiful brown spots against a pristine white background, complemented by her long back and medium-short legs, which create an adorable silhouette. Her robust, muscular build not only hints at her potential as a fantastic hiking or agility partner but also promises a life overflowing with joy and excitement. Picture all the adventures waiting for you with Nyssa by your side!     **Adopting Nyssa** To adopt Nyssa, please use the link below. One of our volunteers will review your application and follow up with you to ask questions, address any concerns you may have, and determine if you are a good match for this pup. If a match is made, the next step will be a meet-and-greet. Please use a computer to complete the application, as tablets and cell phones may disrupt the process. Nyssa has transitioned to a human-grade diet that avoids kibble, focusing instead on a healthy canine-specific feeding regimen. We will educate her adopters on proper diet and nutrition.   The adoption fee for Nyssa is $350   All funds will be utilized to cover her medical care and to rescue more dogs in need. www.smallpupsrescue.org Nyssa has a bonded dog adoption fee of $595.00 if adopted as a bonded pair with her best buddy, Luna.      May 10, 2026, 11:44 am

Story
4/30/26 pupdate from foster family: Meet Charlie, a 9-year-old Lab mix with a heart of gold and just a touch of “stranger danger” at first glance. He might start off a little shy—think “awkward first date energy”—but give him a minute (and maybe a kind word or two), and he’ll be your new best friend before you know it. Charlie is basically the social butterfly of the dog world when it comes to other pups—he gets along great with dogs and even gives cats a respectful nod. He’s fully trained (yes, he’s got manners and brains), thanks to Pawsitive Dog Training School, and his future family will get 12 free private lessons to keep the good vibes going. Whether you’re into hiking, couch lounging, or just wandering around the house pretending to be productive, Charlie is your guy. His motto? “If you’re there, I’m there.” He’s fantastic off-leash, loves being part of whatever you’re doing, and is truly just happy to be by your side. Charlie is ready to trade in his “temporary digs” for a forever home filled with love, companionship, and maybe a few treats (okay, definitely treats). If you’re looking for a loyal, gentle, slightly goofy companion who will warm your heart daily—Charlie’s been waiting just for you🐾
