Star loves other dogs and is much more comfortable around dogs than she is around people. She currently lives with her sister Luci, and the two have formed a special bond. She has also bonded well with another family dog, Duke. Good with Cats? Unknown. Star has not been exposed to cats. Good with Kids? Star is very fearful and cautious around unfamiliar people, including children. When she sees kids while out walking, she prefers to avoid them. Because of her shy nature, a quiet, adult home or one without young children would likely be the best environment for her. Star’s Rescue Story Star was adopted from NorthWest Wag Rescue about a year ago as a companion for the family’s other dog, Luci. The two have bonded beautifully, and her family has spent the past year helping Star feel safe, comfortable, and secure. Star is being rehomed due to a serious illness within her family that will require significant time and attention over the coming months. This difficult decision has nothing to do with Star or her behavior. Her family simply recognizes that they are no longer able to give Luci—and her sister, Star—the time, attention, and consistency they deserve. Their greatest hope is to find both girls loving homes where they can continue to thrive. While they would love for Luci and Star to remain together, they understand that may not be possible. Most importantly, they want Luci to find a patient, understanding family—and ideally a confident canine companion—who can give her the security, time, and love she needs. Personality Star is a quiet, reserved girl with a wonderfully unique personality. She can be aloof and wary of people, but she absolutely loves the company of other dogs. She is very prim and proper—right down to the elegant way she sits! Affection happens on Star’s terms. She may act as though being petted is beneath her, but secretly, she enjoys it—especially a good butt scratch. When those happen, everything else stops! Star is not a dog who will immediately run into a stranger’s arms. Her trust has to be earned, and she needs a family who will appreciate her for exactly who she is and allow her to build relationships at her own pace. Leash & Walks Star loves her walks! She tends to start out quickly and may pull when she is excited, but she settles in and enjoys taking her time to sniff and explore. Reaching the park calls for her signature happy spin, and even a trip to the mailbox is exciting because it means a little extra walking time. Her family has been working with her on reducing leash pulling and helping her feel more comfortable when people are nearby. Potty Training Star is mostly potty trained but can occasionally have an accident if her signals aren't noticed quickly enough after she wakes up. Her family has been working on helping her communicate when she needs to go outside. Crate Training Star is crate trained and will choose to sleep in her crate, although she prefers the door to remain open. Home Life When home alone, Star stays downstairs in the house with Luci. At night, she chooses wherever she feels most comfortable—her crate, dog bed, couch, or occasionally the human bed. Star eats twice a day, in the morning and evening. She can be hesitant to eat around people and may wait until the house is quiet. She and Luci are comfortable eating around one another and have shown no food aggression. Star’s Ideal Home Star would thrive in a calm, patient home with another friendly, confident dog. Having a canine companion helps her feel secure and gives her someone to learn from. A playful, affectionate dog who can help show Star that people are safe could be especially beneficial. Star would love nothing more than to remain with Luci, with whom she shares a special bond. However, the most important thing is finding a home that understands Star will need time, patience, consistency, and space to build trust. Star’s Strengths Star is incredibly quiet and rarely barks. She is gentle, non-confrontational, and takes treats ever so delicately. She enjoys walks, backyard time, toys, and the companionship of other dogs. And then there are those eyes—they have a way of melting your heart. What Is Star Still Working On? Star continues to work on building confidence and learning to trust people. Walks, treats, routine, and patience have helped her make progress. She is also working on staying relaxed when unfamiliar people are nearby and improving her leash manners. Her future family should be willing to continue this work without rushing her. Star wants to be part of the family—she simply needs extra time to feel safe enough to participate. Meet Ema! Ema is an energetic girl despite her age and has so much love to give. She's a classic Velcro dog who wants to be right by your side and soak up all the affection she can. Ema will let you know if a stranger is approaching with a quick bark, but once you're aware, she settles right down. She's the perfect mix of loving companion and little watchdog-sweet, devoted, and always looking out for her people.

Cyrano is a very special pup who is a real sweet boy. He is absolutely velcro and loves his humans. Cyrano has now learned how to play with toys and to sit for treats by following his foster sister. Although he loves his playtime with his doggie friends, his favorite pastime is to be a couch potato, laying next to his foster parent. He was rescued from a very high kill shelter of Houston, where he was a staff favorite, that kept him alive. Unfortunately, his then foster mom who was supposed to foster to adopt him, decided to move in back with her ex, who did not like dogs. As a result, he was returned to our foster program, after he was attached to her very much. He cried all the way to the boarding when she had him removed and then he accepted his fate. A month later, he came to his foster home and his foster parents once again, made him trust humans, Three months later, Cyrano was moved to Portland where he found another foster. He is now looking for his forever home, so that he does not need to move again. Cyrano is very loving and extremely loyal, affectionate and adorable. He gets attached very quickly and is always velcro with his humans. Cyrano is also very smart and sensitive. He is extremely well-behaved, quiet, calm, and obedient. He likes to please and hardly ever barks. A home with a fully fenced yard is mandatory, as well as parents with a large heart as he will be their baby. Cyrano is definitely one of the best pups in our program who is very loved. Cyrano is 3 years old, 75 lb, fully vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped. He is heartworm negative, and kept on proheart 12 that covers his heartworm prevention for a year. Sweet Cyrano is being fostered in Portland, Oregon, but can be transported anywhere, as long as it’s the best home for him.
