Hello, friends, my name is Oliver! I’m a 1-year-old, 9lb Yorkie Shih Tzu mix (Shorkie) boy, and I’ll be honest – my start in life was rough. I was found by the side of the road, discarded like I didn’t matter. Because of that, I’m still learning to trust and I can be unsure when meeting new people and other dogs — proper introductions are a must. My amazing foster mom is working with me on this, and I’m making progress every day! I’m doing okay with my older female foster dog sibling, but I may do best as an only dog where I can get all the attention. I don’t know about cats yet, and I need an adult-only home – no kids for me, please. I sleep in bed with my foster mom at night and love lounging on the couch during the day because comfort is life! I am pretty sure I am what you call housebroken. I haven’t learned yet how to tell my humans when I need to go potty, but I know I can learn. For now, if you take me out frequently, I do great with no accidents. I do okay on a leash but need help building my confidence when seeing other people and dogs…I would really prefer a home with a fenced-in yard to run and play and so I don’t need to go on many walks. Crates are ok and I know they keep me safe when you’re not home. They are also helpful because…now here’s the fun part: I’m still ALL puppy! I’m a chewer who loves my favorite toys, so you’ll need to puppy-proof your home and protect your favorite things. Fair warning! Hello friends, Cooper here. I’m a sweet 9-year-old Yorkie boy who came to FCCR right before Thanksgiving in critical condition and needing emergency surgery. But guess what? I made it through and now I’m ready to find my forever home! I’m a little fighter with a big heart, and I’m so grateful for this second chance at life. I get along great with other dogs and I’m a very affectionate boy who LOVES to give kisses! My favorite place in the whole world? My human’s lap – that’s where all the magic happens! I’m treat motivated (what can I say, I love snacks!), I’m okay in the car for adventures, and I sleep in the bedroom in my little bed, though I’ll definitely try to sneak up into your bed if you let me! Now, I do need a patient family who can help me with a few things. I’m still working on my house-breaking skills, so consistency and a good routine will help me succeed. I don’t like to be crated – I prefer being close to my people. We haven’t tested me on a leash yet, so that’s still a mystery to uncover together! I have a partially collapsed trachea but it only shows when I get excited and I take medication to manage it. I also have an occasional limp (back leg), but I also take medication for that and get around just fine. I’m a senior guy so this kinda stuff is part of life. Hello FCCR friends, I’m Leyla and I’m a sweet 10-year-old, 8-pound Yorkie mix girl with quite the story! I was found all alone outside a bar in southern Florida when a kind Good Samaritan rescued me and contacted FCCR. Now I’m fully vetted, in good health, and ready to find my forever home! I’m a very chill girl who loves to explore the yard and just take in everything around me. I’m good with other dogs and I like to hang out and watch them do their thing – I’m more of an observer than a party animal! I appear to be housebroken when taken outside on a frequent schedule, and I’m fine in a crate and the car. I’m not a big leash walker, but I do okay when needed. Hi FCCR family, I’m Tom, an 8-year-old, 9-pound Yorkie boy, and this is my best friend and sister Oney – she’s a 10-year-old, 12-pound girl, and we’re a package deal! I love belly rubs, playing with toys AND crawling into boxes, plus racing around the yard, and afternoon naps on the couch. Oney’s my cuddle buddy who likes carrying blankets instead of toys (much comfier for napping on, she says!). She’s a retired puppy mama ready for the leisure life, and while she takes a minute to warm up to new people, once she does, she’s all about those back rubs. We’re both pretty good with housetraining as long as we get outside every few hours, and we love our treats for a job well done! Oney’s an excellent watchdog who’ll let you know when something’s up, and I’m just friendly with everyone. We’re great with other dogs, not sure about cats since we’ve never met one, and we’d probably do best with older kids. ADOPTION FEE: $325 Update on Sweet Xica (Chica) We wanted to share an important update about our precious Yorkie girl, Xica. She’s recently been diagnosed with megaesophagus, a condition that affects how her esophagus works. What is Megaesophagus? Megaesophagus is a condition where the esophagus (the tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach) loses its ability to move food down properly. Instead of the normal muscle contractions that push food along, the esophagus becomes enlarged and food can get stuck or move very slowly. This can lead to regurgitation and makes eating a bit more complicated. The Good News! Megaesophagus can be managed with some simple adjustments! Dogs with this condition need to eat in an upright, vertical position so gravity can help move food down to their stomach. And here’s the best part - Xica LOVES this! She’s a total lap dog who adores sitting upright in her human’s lap, which is exactly the position she needs to be in for feeding. It’s like she was made for this management style! Xica is also on medication to help improve her esophageal muscle function, and our vet continues to monitor her closely to ensure she’s doing well. ✨What This Means for Xica’s Future Home✨ Xica will need a family committed to feeding her in an upright position and keeping her vertical for 10-15 minutes after meals. With proper management, dogs with megaesophagus can live happy, full lives - and Xica is already proving what a little sweetheart she is through it all.
