Meet Apricot !! This tiny girl is so scared. She needs a really special person to help her recover from all that she has been through. She is one of the now 24 dogs we have taken in from a horrible hoarding situation. She survived being in a feces covered home during freezing temps with no heat, no food, no water and no electricity for a very long time. She’s made a lot of progress but still has a long way to go. Apricot is approx. 3 years old. She is a female Yorkie mix best guess. She weighs 12 Pounds and is full grown. She is already spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and had a dental. She is heartworm negative and on monthly preventions. She is very shy at first and takes time to adjust to new people. She becomes comfortable with women faster than men. It’s a process of building trust with a dog that’s been neglected like this. Once she trusts you she opens up and gets up in your lap and wants attention. Apricot has done well with other dogs. She has been submissive and happy to meet all dogs so far. She has not played much with other dogs but seems to enjoy just having them around. She is not fostered with cats so we are not sure how she would do but she sleeps next to the bunny cage in her foster home. So far all of these dogs from the hoarding house that have met cats have done wonderful with them so we hope she would as well. She is not fostered with kids but we think she would do well with calmer older kids. She will need kids and adults in the home to be willing to give her space and time to adjust to them and feel safe. As with any dog she would need any children in the house to be respectful and not treat her like a toy. *** Until she trusts you she will try to bite if she is grabbed, picked up, or cornered when she is scared. It takes a lot of time and effort to get to a point where she trusts you to be picked up. This is why she must go to a home with kids old enough to understand and follow rules around her. She will not try to bite unless her boundaries are pushed and is happy to move away from you instead if she has that option. Apricot has done very well on car rides, she is a little nervous but does not get sick. She had never been on a leash before and has been so scared that we have not pushed that issue with her. She is also scared to go outside so she has been using the bathroom on puppy pads. She is not potty trained to go outside yet. She is also not crate trained due to how scared she was of it. She does well in a room with a baby gate and some puppy pads out. She is slowly figuring things out but her new owner will just need to be patient and understanding given her history. Despite having to fight over limited food and resources in her last home she has shown no issues sharing with other dogs or people. She does very well with sharing and is overall submissive about everything. She will eventually trust you enough to take treats from you and she takes them very gently. She has a very low energy level so far. She may become more energetic as time goes on and she feels more confident. She is a dog that is very independent and has no problem being alone while you are gone at work. With a lot of time and trust building she will eventually enjoy your company and be excited to see you. She is a good dog for someone with limited time as she needs very little exercise to be happy and is already trained to potty on pads. Overall Apricot is working hard to overcome a rough start to life. She has been with her foster family for 3 months now and has gone from nipping out of fear to greeting them with tail wags when they come home. She’s starting to enjoy sitting on the couch with her foster mom and even lets her do belly rubs. She has just recently started to accept being picked up. This is all possible with her but it will take time to build up the trust with her. If you are willing to help her learn the rest of her training and give her some time to trust you then you will end up with a great addition to your family. ***Do not apply to adopt one of these hoarding case dogs if you’re not serious about giving them time to adjust. It’s absolutely unfair to expect them to adjust in a day or two. We’ve had 3 adopted and returned within 24 hours of adoption for not being immediately settled and perfect in a completely new place. All returned for things we explained upfront about them. It’s completely unreasonable and unrealistic to expect that from dogs that have been through what they have. The last thing they need is to be shuffled around due to adopters not listening or being serious about their needs*** Vet and home checks required. Meet Lollipop! When Lollipop first came to 4 Paws, she arrived with Maggie after the heartbreaking loss of their owner. We truly believed they needed to stay together. Unfortunately, after being adopted, it became clear they were not the bonded pair we thought they were. Maggie began attacking Lollipop, and for Lollipop's safety, they have been permanently separated. Now it's Lollipop's turn to find the loving home she deserves. Lollipop is a 7-year-old Yorkie weighing just 7.5 pounds. She is a sweet, gentle little girl who loves being close to her people and enjoys cuddles and kisses. She was potty pad trained in her previous home, and because her vet and groomer always came to the house, she has had very little experience with the outside world. New sights, sounds, and routines can be overwhelming, so she will need a patient adopter who will help her build confidence at her own pace. Lollipop does experience anxiety and is currently taking trazodone, which has been helping her feel more comfortable as she adjusts to all the changes in her life. We are hopeful that once she settles into a calm, stable home where she feels safe and secure, her veterinarian can help determine whether she will need to remain on medication long term. She would do best in a quiet home with a predictable routine. Lollipop does well with calm, respectful dogs and cats but would also be happy as your one and only, soaking up all the love and attention. As with all dogs, Lollipop will need time to adjust to a new home and its expectations. Her forever family should understand that pet ownership is a lifelong commitment that includes daily exercise, continued training, and socialization. Remember, a good dog is a tired dog! She also has some elevated blood levels we are investigating which could indicate cancer. She is approximately 10 years old and weighs about 3.5 pounds but needs to gain a little weight. She was surrendered to the rescue by her family. They made the tough decision to put her in our care because her owner was very ill. We will make sure she gets the best care and finds a wonderful family. Flo does need some extensive dental care. Her lack of wellness care over the years has led to significant dental disease causing a oro-nasal fistula. She will need surgical repair of this fistula before adoption. You can read more about the surgery here. Flo is a friendly, quiet little lady. She is currently trying to put on a little weight and that will take a little time. She is also receiving supplements for her coat. She will have a oro-nasal fistula repaired on June 22nd. Once she is healed she will be ready for adoption. Healing will take time. Flo enjoys the company of other small, senior dogs. She loves the companionship and senior snooze time together. Another calm, older dog would benefit her in her new home. She has been started on medication for this and thankfully it is helping. She also has situational medication for stressful events like the veterinary office and grooming. Lola Faye continues to show good house manners (in a new home she may have an accident until she settles into a new routine.) She likes walking and snuggling with foster mom. Lola Faye is crate trained and enjoys sleeping through the night in her safe space. She is happy in her crate while foster mom is at work. She is definitely a love bug. Lola is ready for adoption. She will need patience in her new home. She has been through so much. She will need someone to give her time to adjust and space to acclimate to her new home. Being surrendered to the rescue really confused her. But, she has learned she is safe with us. She has made a lot of progress but will still need time to learn to trust.
