Story
For inquiries email info@compactcaninerescue.org Fee $600 Location Chesapeake, VA UPDATE 5/14/2026: Lola Faye is a sweet little girl who suffers from some anxiety. She has been started on medication for this and thankfully it is helping. She also has situational medication for stressful events like the veterinary office and grooming. Lola Faye continues to show good house manners (in a new home she may have an accident until she settles into a new routine.) She likes walking and snuggling with foster mom. Lola Faye is crate trained and enjoys sleeping through the night in her safe space. She is happy in her crate while foster mom is at work. She is definitely a love bug. Lola is ready for adoption. She will need patience in her new home. She has been through so much. Being surrendered to the rescue really confused her. But, she has learned she is safe with us. She has made a lot of progress but will still need time to learn to trust. A quiet home with a consistent routine will help her thrive.Lola is a sweet little lady who deserves the best!   Lola Faye is new in rescue. She comes to us from an owner who could no longer care for her.We will have her seen at the vet to update her vaccines. She is scheduled for her spay and microchip on March 9th. Lola Faye is getting used to her foster home but is still anxious since being surrendered and we can certainly understand why. We did take her in for a consultation with the vet and she has been placed on medication to help her transition to our care and eventually her new home She prefers to be with her person at all times. She will be best served in a quiet home, home with someone there most of the day. She loves to go outside and loves walking. She is very sweet. Story
For inquiries email bryan@compactcaninerescue.org Fee: $800 Location: Washington, DC Katie is new in rescue. She comes to us from the shelter in Suffolk. She had a microchip but the information was not current so she had to spend 10 days in the shelter. By her appearance, it would seem she has been stray or lived in horrible conditions for some time. Despite her intake condition (check out her photos), she has been very sweet. Katie is a 2 year old Yorkie mix (possible poodle or some other small dog with curly hair). She weighs about 9.5-10 pounds. We scooped her up from the shelter and took her straight to the ver for a sedated shave down, vaccines and her spay. We did not want to waste any time. She has been living in filth too long! She is beginning to feel better since she has been cleaned up. She is eating and sleeping well. Her potty manners are great so far. She is a sweet little girl who deserves much better in life and we intend to find the perfect home for her. She has healed from her spay and is ready for adoption. As with all our puppies and dogs two years old and under, completion of a basic manners class (usually 5-6 classes) will be required for her adoption to be finalized. Story
Meet Lychee !! *UPDATED* He is one of the now 23 dogs we’ve taken in from a horrible hoarding situation. He survived being in a feces covered home during freezing temps with no heat, no water, no food and no electricity for a very long time. The dogs there all had to fight over very little food and resources. He’s still very scared but he’s getting there! Lychee is approx 3 years old. He is a male Yorkie mix best guess. He weighs approx 20 Pounds and is full grown. He is already neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. He is heartworm negative and on monthly preventions. This guy was the last in the house to be caught and he arrived to us extremely shut down. The good thing about him is even when he is terrified he never tries to bite. He has really had some big breakthroughs lately and we are so proud of him!! He just needs a family willing to listen to his needs and accommodate him while he adjusts to their home. He has done really well with other dogs of all sizes. He is just starting to play a bit but otherwise just happily coexists. He is fostered with cats and does good around them. He ignores the cats and doesn't seem to have any interest in them at all. He has not been fostered with kids. He is not a mean or aggressive dog so we think he could do well with kids that can give him space to get used to them first. Lychee is working on his training but he still needs a lot of help with it. He is currently excelling at it but it takes some accommodating to find out what works for him in your home. He has done good on car rides and does not get sick. He had clearly never been on a leash before and was very terrified of it. He has started to accept it more and is learning. He is crate trained but does better with having a room to stay in instead. He can be crated and is quiet, he just gets scared and will potty on himself in there which he does not do when he's out in a room. He is really starting to understand potty training. He came from a place where they were trapped inside and had no options for going anywhere else so he’s overcome a lot. Currently he has the kitchen as his space and he will use the potty pads well. He has just recently started choosing to not use the pads and go potty outside! We are so excited. It will likely take some time and trial and error in a new place for him to feel safe enough to potty outside but he’s shown us that he can and will choose outside once he feels safe. Lychee really needs a fenced yard or secure pen area that’s attached to a door on the home. He does best when he can follow you inside and outside to potty instead of using a leash or being carried. It takes a lot of the fear away and makes him more comfortable. The key to unlocking his social side is to remove his hiding places. He will choose to hide both inside or out if he can. When these areas are blocked off he settles in and starts to open up. He will look for a place to hide then quickly give up and rest in his dog bed or come up on the couch for cuddles. Lychee was in a situation where he had to fight over limited food and resources from the other dogs in the home. So far he’s shown no issues with sharing food with people or pets. He has shared toys and food around other dogs without issue and takes treats beside other dogs politely. We still suggest allowing him to eat separately where he can take his time and not feel threatened or pressured. He likes cheese and treats and takes things from you very gently. He has a low energy level so far. He pretty much finds a spot and stays there. Once trust is built he likes to cuddle and will climb up on you to give you kisses. He likes you to pet him the entire time you are cuddling or he will leave and go sleep somewhere else LOL. He has no issues being alone all day while you are at work and requires little exercise. We have seen some spunky moments from him and do expect he may get a little more energetic once he fully decompresses. Overall Lychee is a scruffy and adorable little guy. He really has so much potential. These dogs from this situation have shown us that with time they will break through the fear and start to trust again. So many have been adopted and are now thriving. If you are willing to help him work through his remaining training needs, you will get one amazing little guy. He has such a loving and sweet side to him. ***Do not apply to adopt one of these hoarding case dogs if you’re not serious about giving them time to adjust. It’s absolutely unfair to expect them to adjust in a day or two. We’ve already had 3 of them adopted and returned within 24 hours of adoption for not being immediately settled and perfect in a completely new place. All returned for things we explained upfront about them. It’s completely unreasonable and unrealistic to expect that from dogs that have been through what they have. The last thing they need is to be shuffled around due to adopters not listening or being serious about their needs*** Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. Story
Meet Apricot !! This tiny girl is so scared. She needs a really special person to help her recover from all that she has been through. She is one of the now 24 dogs we have taken in from a horrible hoarding situation. She survived being in a feces covered home during freezing temps with no heat, no food, no water and no electricity for a very long time. She’s made a lot of progress but still has a long way to go. Apricot is approx. 3 years old. She is a female Yorkie mix best guess. She weighs 12 Pounds and is full grown. She is already spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and had a dental. She is heartworm negative and on monthly preventions. She is very shy at first and takes time to adjust to new people. She becomes comfortable with women faster than men. It’s a process of building trust with a dog that’s been neglected like this. Once she trusts you she opens up and gets up in your lap and wants attention. Apricot has done well with other dogs. She has been submissive and happy to meet all dogs so far. She has not played much with other dogs but seems to enjoy just having them around. She is not fostered with cats so we are not sure how she would do but she sleeps next to the bunny cage in her foster home. So far all of these dogs from the hoarding house that have met cats have done wonderful with them so we hope she would as well. She is not fostered with kids but we think she would do well with calmer older kids. She will need kids and adults in the home to be willing to give her space and time to adjust to them and feel safe. As with any dog she would need any children in the house to be respectful and not treat her like a toy. *** Until she trusts you she will try to bite if she is grabbed, picked up, or cornered when she is scared. It takes a lot of time and effort to get to a point where she trusts you to be picked up. This is why she must go to a home with kids old enough to understand and follow rules around her. She will not try to bite unless her boundaries are pushed and is happy to move away from you instead if she has that option. Apricot has done very well on car rides, she is a little nervous but does not get sick. She had never been on a leash before and has been so scared that we have not pushed that issue with her. She is also scared to go outside so she has been using the bathroom on puppy pads. She is not potty trained to go outside yet. She is also not crate trained due to how scared she was of it. She does well in a room with a baby gate and some puppy pads out. She is slowly figuring things out but her new owner will just need to be patient and understanding given her history. Despite having to fight over limited food and resources in her last home she has shown no issues sharing with other dogs or people. She does very well with sharing and is overall submissive about everything. She will eventually trust you enough to take treats from you and she takes them very gently. She has a very low energy level so far. She may become more energetic as time goes on and she feels more confident. She is a dog that is very independent and has no problem being alone while you are gone at work. With a lot of time and trust building she will eventually enjoy your company and be excited to see you. She is a good dog for someone with limited time as she needs very little exercise to be happy and is already trained to potty on pads. Overall Apricot is working hard to overcome a rough start to life. She has been with her foster family for 3 months now and has gone from nipping out of fear to greeting them with tail wags when they come home. She’s starting to enjoy sitting on the couch with her foster mom and even lets her do belly rubs. She has just recently started to accept being picked up. This is all possible with her but it will take time to build up the trust with her. If you are willing to help her learn the rest of her training and give her some time to trust you then you will end up with a great addition to your family. ***Do not apply to adopt one of these hoarding case dogs if you’re not serious about giving them time to adjust. Story
Evie is a lovely little senior girl with lots of love to give. She was returned to Saver of Souls when her person passed away. She is calm and quiet and enjoys being pet and sitting in your lap. Evie will go outside to use the bathroom but will also use a puppy pad if one is available. She enjoys a walk but also likes to be out in the yard on nice days. She gets along well with dogs, cats and kids. She is very small so it's recommended that she lives with older children. Evie has a genetic condition called Blue Dilution Alopecia. This in no way affects her health or longevity. The fur that she has in unbelievably soft! Evie is everything you would want in a companion to love and who will love her family.

Story
Zoe is a very affectionate lap dog she loves to lick and give kisses. She is from a single family household no kids around but she loves to play. She loves to go out and about and is use to car rides. She is pad trained house broken. She doesn’t go out for walks or to potty but will be easy to train if needed too. She knows commands and learns by treats. She is a quiet dog only barks if a stranger comes near the door. She is a picky eater so wet food is her go to. She loves to play fetch and she loves stuff toys. She can be stubborn because of her breed. She is current on all vaccines and has never been sick or injured. She will need a very emphatic owner because she is spoiled but in a good way. She will follow you all around the house. It’s always been just her and I and my mom until she died a few years ago. So someone looking for a best friend would be an ideal situation.
