Story
Wick is a 90+ pound sweetheart with a big heart and an even bigger need for love. Loyal, affectionate, and gentle, he has all the makings of a perfect companion. But right now, shelter life is taking a toll. The noise, constant activity, and lack of routine are overwhelming for him—it’s clear he belongs in a home, not a kennel. What Wick truly needs is a calm, loving environment where he can exhale, feel safe, and return to being the happy, trusting dog we know he is. Even in the midst of his stress, Wick seeks out affection and leans into human connection. He enjoys quiet walks, soft beds, and simply being near his people.Wick is house-trained, neutered, and knows his basic commands. He gets along with some other dogs and would thrive with patient, experienced adopters who understand large-breed dogs and can give him time to settle in.He doesn’t need much—just stability, kindness, and a little room to stretch out. In return, Wick will offer you quiet companionship, unwavering loyalty, and a heart full of gratitude. Please consider opening your home to Wick—whether through adoption or foster. Helping him leave the shelter could be life-changing—for both of you. ??

Story
So, you`re looking for a dog? Well... meet Bubbie, he is a dog! A dog`s dog, one could say. Bubbie is a man of many names, and few words. We call him Bubbie, Bubba, Bubbies, Teddy, or Theodore, but landed on Bubbie for his official title. We anticipate Bubbie would do well in a variety of homes, although a feline-free home is required. In his previous home, Bubbie lived with a playful, active labrador retreiver and did well, and respected the space of a more senior yellow lab, too. At the shelter, Bubbie solicted play during his dog introductions and was respectful when his advances were declined. Bubbie`s tricks include `sit`... we told you he is a man of few words. Bubbie was reported to be house-trained and crate-trained in his previous home, and does best when left alone for only short periods of time. Bubbie likes any toy, any treat, and any person. He has experience living with horses, goats, a donkey, and (contained) chickens. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Saturn was transferred to Valley Humane on 6/2 from Stockton Animal Services. Saturn is a young adult dog (estimated to be aged between 1 and 4 years old) and weighs 25.5 pounds.Saturn has a misaligned lower jaw. It does not appear to be causing her any pain or difficulty eating at this time. Please continue monitoring for any developing symptoms.Saturn was diagnosed with grade I patellar luxation in her left knee and a grade II patellar luxation in her right knee. This condition is common in small and toy breed dogs. In grade I, the patella sometimes moves out of place but returns to its normal position its own. In grade IV, the patella (kneecap) is constantly out of place and does not move back into its normal position. Grades II and III are intermediate in between these. Patellar luxation can cause occasional intermittent to constant lameness. Surgical correction should be considered if the dog shows frequent lameness or pain.Do you have questions about this animal or are you ready to take the next step to adoption? American Bulldog Mixed Breed (Large)

Male, 10 yrs 5 mos
Pleasanton, CA
Size
(when grown) Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
Details
Not good with kids, Good with dogs, Good with cats, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Mr Lucky is estimated at over 10 years old. He came to CBR by luck and a hot mess on New Years eve. He had a large mass on his side, chronically infected ears and eyes plus what ened up being two, yes two, large tumors in his scrotum and what the vet believes are healed chemical burns all over his back and belly. All three masses have been removed as well as him being neutered. He also has meds for his eyes and ears, he doesn't like them but tolerates have the meds administered. Though he is a barker and despite everything life has thrown at him he is still a loving and affectionate dog. He pays almost no attention to the resident cat or goats. He may look at them or smell them but then waddles off to his next adventure. Which is normally laying on the couch chewing on a bone or rolling around on the dog bed/floor. He shows the resident dogs a little more attention with more intense smelling and given the opportunity has tried to dominate them by mounting them. He is easily redirected and happy to walk along side them on leash. He does well on leash everywhere and off leash in the yard. He will follow his people anywhere when he feels like it or barge into the bathroom looking for them if the door isn't closed all the way. Lucky isn't to fond of his crate yet but it's a work in progress. His ideal home is one where his person or people are home more than not and where he is able to lounge the day away without a crate.

Story
Nugget is an introvert's best friend! He's medium energy, loves going out for walks and he walks well on leash, is crate trained, and respects established thresholds. He enjoys sunbathing, splooting, rolling around in the grass, chasing the water hose / sprinkler, napping after exercise, and is very food motivated. Nugget is slow to trust - he needs time to get to know you and does best in a calm, structured environment. While Nugs is not a social butterfly, when he bonds with someone he bonds for life. Once he trusts you he turns into a giant cuddle bug who melts when given affection. Nugs is dog friendly, and responds well to slow introductions.
