Spayed or Neutered,
Story
My name is Shadow and I am a gray & white pit bull. I am a neutered male and I am 2 years old. They were my family for 2 years. I am used to staying inside during the day and inside during the night. I am potty trained and I am a medium energy dog. The shelter staff is not sure if I am used to being crated during the day, but I do well being in my kennel at the shelter. I do pull a little on the leash, but it`s more excitement than that I`ll drag you down the street. I can be good with men, women, and children. I can be good with other dogs and I can be good with cats. I have special housing needs within the City of Ames - shelter staff would be happy to go over these requirements with you.All dogs are tested for heartworms and given flea preventatives. They are also tested for intestinal parasites and receive routine dewormings. Dogs are vaccinated against distemper, rabies, and bordetella, spayed/neutered before adoption, and have a microchip. Adoption fees include the initial automated registration of the microchip at the time of adoption.

Story
Marsay is an 11 year old 60 lb pit mix looking for an active retirement home. Marsay is incredibly affectionate and still has the energy of a young pup! He loves to cuddle but also loves going for walks with his foster mom. He is house/crate trained. He does fine with most dogs one-on-one and after a proper intro; we haven't seen him with cats yet and require a meet with any resident pets before adoption. He does tend to guard resources (particularly food and high value toys/bones) so we are suggesting older kids in the home and a dedicated adopter willing to put some one-on-one training time in with him. He loves to meet new people and be part of the action! If interested in meeting Marsay, please apply at www.foreverhomedogs.org!All adoptions are $300 per dog for puppies under 1 year, $250 for adults 1 - 9 years old and $150 for senior dogs which include spay/neuter, micro-chipped and up-to-date on required shots. Senior dogs, at our discretion, are adopted out at $150 per dog because we know they will have less time with your family and may eventually have more needs as they get older. But we feel these dogs deserve to live out the rest of their lives as part of a loving family.

Story
Mira is a super sweet 55 lb almost 6 year old pit bull girl looking for a special forever home. She was found running in Kansas back in November 2020, and we are guessing came from a breeder situation as she was very scared and quickly put on the euthanasia list at their animal control / shelter because she was so afraid of everything. We were able to get her to Iowa, where we took it extra slow with her. She was adopted in July 2021 and returned six months later due to fear issues with lots of people in and out of the home. Mira gets along with all sizes of animals, but doesn't voluntarily approach people for a long time after meeting them so will need a patient adopter willing to let her learn at her pace. Another confident dog will be needed for this lady, as she watches other animals for guidance. A calmer home and dedicated adopter who has a professional trainer lined up to utilize is required, no exceptions -- and we will follow up as needed post-adoption. She is such a gentle thing who wants to dog but doesn't know how yet, and will take time to figure it out. Her adoption fee is $250 and includes all vetting and microchip. If you feel like you have the environment and patience to love her, please apply at www.foreverhomedogs.org to schedule a couple meets with Mira! All adoptions are $300 per dog for puppies under 1 year, $250 for adults 1 - 9 years old and $150 for senior dogs which include spay/neuter, micro-chipped and up-to-date on required shots. Story
- Sweet girl, knows sit- Loves people and companionship - Young, noisy or busy children can be too much for them (mature home recommended) - May prefer to be the only dog in their home- May take some time to warm up to new dogs and may prefer some dogs over others; would be most comfortable with a slow introduction to new dogs (dog intro recommended) - Tends to avoid other dogs (dog intro recommended) - The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: Brown Weight: 45.5 Age: 1yrs 2mths 2wks

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
- Very much a puppy who loves to play and be active - Already knows sit and is very food-motivated (he'll do almost anything for a little whipped cream); would love to learn more in classes - Can forget his mouth manners when he's bored or frustrated, so he's looking for a family who can give him plenty of toys, exercise and other appropriate outlets for his energy - Will be a great friend for an active person or family who has time to spend with him and train him so he can grow up to be the best dog he can be - To help set him up for success, adopters will receive 25% off ARL group classes and participation in our ModSquad program, which includes two free sessions with a private trainer/consultant - Likes children but can forget his size and manners at times; will do best in a more mature home right now - Has a rough-and-tumble, linebacker-like play style with other dogs, but when he finds the right dog friend they're a great outlet for his energy; would benefit from having a dog in his home who can match his play style while also respecting his boundaries (check out the video of him below playing with several like-minded dog friends!) - We can't decide which is cuter - his ears or his brows! The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: Tri Color Weight: 60 Age: 1yrs 11mths 1wks
