Story
Marsay is a 13 year old 60 lb pit mix looking for a retirement home. Marsay is incredibly affectionate and still has the energy of a young pup! He loves to cuddle but also loves going for walks with his foster mom. He is house/crate trained. He does fine with most dogs one-on-one and after a proper intro; we haven't seen him with cats yet and require a meet with any resident pets before adoption. He does tend to guard resources (particularly food and high value toys/bones) so we are suggesting older kids in the home and a dedicated adopter willing to put some one-on-one training time in with him. He loves to meet new people and be part of the action! If interested in meeting Marsay, please apply at www.foreverhomedogs.org!All adoptions are $300 per dog for puppies under 1 year, $250 for adults 1 - 9 years old and $150 for senior dogs which include spay/neuter, micro-chipped and up-to-date on required shots. Senior dogs, at our discretion, are adopted out at $150 per dog because we know they will have less time with your family and may eventually have more needs as they get older. But we feel these dogs deserve to live out the rest of their lives as part of a loving family.

- Active dog who is ready to accompany you on all your adventures; looking for a family who loves being active just like them - Loves going on walks and does best with a harness- Tends to be socially awkward with other dogs (dog intro recommended)- Friendly boy who knows sitAll adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: Grey Secondary Color: White Weight: 39.6 Age: 2yrs 1mths 3wks

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
- Friendly, cuddly girl with a big heart who loves meeting new people and getting love from everyone; she's as happy to lounge around and soak up affection as she is playing with toys - and she LOVES booty scratches- Likes tennis balls and playing fetch, and also likes stuffed toys, bones, and food enrichment such as Kongs, lick mats and snuffle mats- Curious and loves to go on adventures - would be a great walking or hiking buddy; walks pretty well on a leash, but may pull when she gets excited, so a harness will be ideal for outings - LOVES the car and is always ready to go for a ride - she hops right in! - Knows sit and down and has a good start on shake - Likes curling up in her dog bed for naps - Spent time in a foster home and did pretty well with potty training; may need some help from her new family to get all the way there - Not a fan of kennels or other enclosed spaces, but did well free-roaming in her foster home when her family was out - Showed discomfort with young children being around her things and not respecting boundaries in a previous home; has done well with respectful older children and will do best in a more mature home (ideally ages 10 and up)- Has been very uncomfortable around other dogs and tends to avoid them; needs to be the only dog in her new home - Tends to want to chase cats, so she'll do best in a home without them - Has been diagnosed with medial patellar luxation in one knee; also may have allergies (more info at ARL) This pet qualifies for our 7-day Foster-to-Adopt program. If you're interested in fostering to adopt, please reach out to fosterinquiry@arl-iowa.org.All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Spayed or Neutered,
Story
- A cuddle bug in bed; wants to lie right next to you and will steal all the pillows - Playful and still has a good amount of puppy energy - Gives the biggest hugs - Always excited to meet a new friend - Recently went on a Dog's Day Out field trip and had a great time with his human companions: "He's so sweet and loves people so much. He was a good boy in public and so many people went up to him to pet him and give him love! He does really well with sit and was a patient boy while we did our shopping. Did VERY well walking with us as well. We love Doug." - Knows sit and got a good start on off and down in his foster home; has good recall and is very food-motivated and eager to learn when snacks are involved - he'll catch treats in the air, too!- Rides well in the car and will jump right in when you open the door - Can be a puller so a harness is ideal for walks, and his foster family said he walked nicely for them with that- Did well kenneled and free-roaming for short periods of time when his foster family was gone - Was fully housetrained in his foster home and would circle the area and start to whimper when he needed to go out; just remember that any dog may need time to get used to a new routine - Struggled with overarousal in his foster home when he got too excited, but was very gentle about his mouthiness; hasn't quite figured out that hands aren't toys or that they don't always have food in them - Plays hard and will do best in a home where all family members are old enough and mature enough to enjoy his energy- Was indifferent and preferred not to interact with dogs in his foster home, and in the shelter he has been socially awkward and avoidant with other dogs; to set him up for success, he needs to be the only dog in his home right now- We don't know his history with cats - A stocky dude with fairly short legs, which make him extra cute This pet qualifies for our 7-day Foster-to-Adopt program.
