Story
Meet Mesha! A true social butterfly who loves people of all ages—kids, grandparents, everyone falls in love with her! She’s great on walks, alert and protective, but also happy to lounge all day cuddling with her favorite toy. She’s just as content being a couch potato as she is running and playing, making her a perfect fit for both active or more relaxed homes. Mesha has occasional seizures (about one every 3-5 months), they’re manageable & don’t affect her daily life. She recovers fully within 20 mins and remains the sweet, playful girl we love. I’ve noticed they tend to happen when she hasn’t had a good night’s sleep, so a calm, restful environment at night really helps. We recommend she be the only pet in the home due to her condition—but she’ll fill your heart and home all on her own. Bonus: She’s also a certified goofball—when she’s had a great day, she does a cartoon-style snore with one eye open just to make sure you’re watching. It’s her way of saying, “Life is good.”

Story
Let me introduce you to this 2 year old, 60lb, gorgeous pit mix named Prowl. Yes, from the Autobot litter born on 5/15/2022 at #MutzMaterutyWard.  If you missed out back then, you now have a second chance!  Through no fault of her own she is back with SAAP, however she did come back in a terrified condition.  She will need a special adopter to understand and take things very slow and allow her to come out of her shell at her own pace.  If she has a dog friend that is introduced to again on her own timetable, she will open up and show you part of true colors.  Once you she is out of shell she is so much fun and truly enjoys being a dog and playing with her dog friends in the backyard. She has been with me for several weeks and she occasionally comes to me outside for love and pets, however in the house it is easiest to chin scratches in.  When someone new comes over she freezes and completely reverts to a terrified dog.  She needs some confidence training to help overcome this fear so that she can hopefully be a socialized dog again. She truly wants to love and be loved, are you the patience and loving family for Prowl?  February 25, 2025, 10:33 pm

Story
If you are looking for a laid back, easy, lovable dog you have hit the jackpot with Sunshine (knows the name Daisy).  She is a lab-pit mix who loves to sunbathe and get belly rubs. She is house trained and knows some basic commands. When Sunshine arrived at SAAP, she did have double ACL surgery. For this reason, she takes Carprofen once daily. Depending on her daily activity level, this can be given every other day. A 30 day supply of Carprofen is about $20. But don’t let this fool you into thinking that this holds her back. This gal keeps a full itinerary with short walks, long naps and going for car rides with the wind blowing in her hair. She is very fit and very strong! Sunshine absolutely loves to be with her people and would love a home where family is around a lot. In the past she displayed some mild separation anxiety. To help her cope better, she is on a daily anti-anxiety medication (Clomicalm - generic prescription is about $40 per month). This has helped her immensely! In her current foster home, she is mainly crated to eat her meals. Otherwise, she has limited free roam of the house and she has done fine being alone on the days foster mom goes into the office but still prefers to have people around as much as possible. Sunshine is absolutely great with dogs smaller than her and she ignores the resident cat. And despite her large size, she is also great with kids! She adores little humans and even lived with a special needs child in the past (before moving to an area that restricted pit bulls). I cannot stress enough how much she loves her people. When you come home, she will greet you with her own rendition of the Happy Dance out of pure excitement and joy. She will also shower you with some big kisses! Apply today to meet Sunshine and you will not be disappointed!! She is definitely a bright spot in your day!!May 13, 2025, 1:02 pm

Story
Libra is such a good, happy boy with the most contagious smile! He gets along well with dogs and cats, and is playing nicely with my dog who is half his size and usually scared of larger dogs. He is STRONG and tends to pull on the leash, but he is definitely improving on leash-training. We're working on it, and he wants to please his people!  Libra is housebroken and crate-trained too, and with a chew toy or peanut-butter-filled Kong, is content in his crate for a long time, and quiet overnight. Actually he doesn't bark much at all, at least compared to my resident dogs. This boy knows "sit" and is learning "down" or "off," and is smart and willing to learn, and learns fast!    Several months ago, we pulled Libra from a shelter where he was a staff favorite, but being a pitty, he wound up on their euthanasia list (please spay and neuter your animals, folks - we have a massive overpopulation problem!) so SAAP came to the rescue. But while at the shelter, Libra  got along great with a volunteer's girls,  enjoyed being dressed up, and rode beautifully in the car!  While he is great with kids and LOVES them, he can play a little rough, so kids who know how to play with dogs would be a best fit for him. He was wonderful in his foster home, but was recently returned because he didn't get along well with one of the dogs in the household (whether it was Libra or the other dog, I don't really know, but Libra seems to get along great with pretty much all dogs according to his foster family.) Libra is wonderful at dog parks and can be trusted to make good choices in his interactions with other dogs.   He just wants to be snuggled and loved on, and he'll give you all the kisses you could ever want!   June 15, 2025, 3:57 pm

Story
Phil is a 1.5 year old pittie mix, with the goofiest personality. He was originally adopted out as a puppy but a year later his owners dropped him off at a shelter saying they no longer wanted him. Luckily, we were contacted and able to bring him back into our care - he is now thriving  and ready to find his family!  Even though he had a rough start at life, he is still the happiest and sweetest boy. He LOVES kisses and snuggles, all you need to do in kneel down and he’s right there!   Some fun facts about Phil:    •K nows sit, shake, easy, stay (this is a newer command that he is working to master) and down.    •Walks great on a martingale collar, but even on a flat collar he does okay   •Phil is child friendly! He’s currently living with an infant in his foster home and doing great so he may do well with an infant that he can grow with, but not suggesting toddler right away. He has tested very well with toddlers but in the home, they may be too unpredictable for him right off the bat. He does amazing with older kids that understand boundaries (no hugging or sneaking up on him).  •No cats/small animals    •Phil is a high energy boy, who would love dog siblings that match his energy to play with!    •Corrects well from other dogs    •Prefers mental stimulation over walks    •Needs help learning manners, his original adopters didn’t give him structure so he will need consistency and patience <3 He’s improved with his manners SO much the last few months !   •Crate trained   •He will do best in a single family home (no apartments), as he needs a yard to burn energy.   •Potty Trained   •Available for Foster-to-Adopt, and our Featured Fur Friend (adoption fee is only $50)    June 18, 2025, 4:05 pm
