Story
Jigger has been with us since he was a puppy and is now 4 years old.. He lives up to his name and often makes us laugh. He likes kisses, camping, chasing his tail, having his belly rubbed and taking walks by the garden so he can lick the dew off the hostas. He is very strong, his muscles have muscles! He can be devious, getting hold of things he is not supposed to have. We are trying to teach him “drop it” but it is slow going. Jigger is black brindle, in the sunlight his coat is gorgeous! Carrots, bananas and ice cubes are among his favorite treats! Jigger would love a yard where he can run! He gets the zoomies and flys through the house so having a yard where he can run would be great! He does tend to think he is a lap dog despite weighing 82 pounds. One quirk he has is chasing and licking his tail. We have talked to the Vet about it but have not found a resolution.

Story
Harley came to us as a puppy. He has a very loving and compassionate heart, often sensing when someone is struggling. He has the ability to seem kangarooish when he plays, jumping from a distance away! Harley loves camping and finding a way to visit other campers on their sites. He is an accomplished escape artist! We learned this about him the first time we went camping with him. He got away and RAN and RAN and RAN. We struggled to keep up. Each time we would almost catch him, he would start running again. Remembering his love of peanut butter, I went back to the camper and got it along with a spoon, caught up to him and bribed him with a spoonful. Peanut butter made him forget about his freedom run! I stood on his leash while he licked the spoon clean. For 2 hours, he had a blast! Other than escaping, he really is not devious. If he puts something in his mouth, he will let you open his mouth to take it out. Scratch his jowls and you have a new BFF!

Story
Felix is an adult neutered male Pit Bull Terrier. Felix is a friendly fellow who loves everyone. He came in a bit of a mess - his ears were very infected, he was very skinny and he just didn’t feel good. After some basic vet care, good food and care - Felix is doing so much better. Felix is a good walker and is housebroken. Felix has just finished the Path To Home Program. He did great and he feels great. We are so proud of this wonderful guy! Volunteers For Animals and Orleans Correctional Facility have developed a Dog Training & Fostering Program within the prison that will provide socialization and basic obedience training for the dogs before being adopted. Volunteers For Animals will be pulling dogs from high kill shelters and locally who may be in need of behavioral support to become more adoptable. The dogs will then be transported to Orleans Correctional Facility where they will live with selected inmates who will care for them 24 hours per day for approximately 12 weeks. Each dog will have a crate, bedding, leash, collar, training treats, and food provided by Volunteers For Animals. A certified dog trainer will provide weekly training classes for the dogs and the inmates. The inmates will then work daily to reinforce the formal training with the dogs. Adoption Procedures The adoption process includes an application that is completed by the potential owner. If there are multiple applications on the same animal, the animal will go to the best home for that particular animal - not necessarily the first application. Fees for the Path Home animals are $200 per animal which needs to be cash or a check - NO CREDIT CARDS. All of the dogs are current on vaccines, heart worm tested and spayed/neutered. If you would like to be considered for any of the Path to Home dogs, please email us. Please do not call the Shelter regarding Path Home animals - they do not have any information. Email us at info@vol4animals.org regarding this program.  Here is the adoption process:   To adopt an animal you must complete an application and be approved. There is a $60 fee for any animal which needs to be cash or a check - NO CREDIT CARDS. If the animal is not spayed or neutered, there is a $35 deposit which will be returned upon proof of surgery. All dogs must be licensed before leaving the Shelter. Please note that public offices that issue dog licenses are not open on Saturdays and Sundays. All cats must leave in a carrier.   Thank you for considering a homeless animal.October 5, 2024, 6:38 pm

Story
Please put your hands (and paws) together for our newest addition, Bowie! 👩🏻‍🎤 This rockstar is only 1 year old, meaning he’s far from his peak! The pawparazzi has labeled him as a Pitt Mix, but all we know for sure is that this boy is handsome! Life on the road can be tough but this boy makes show biz look easy! He is always ready for some play time or an adventure! Bowie can be very eager to engage with his fans so he would do best in home without young children. We only picked up this superstar yesterday, but he’s already stolen the spotlight and our hearts! He’s a real-life Diamond Dog!

Story
We have someone special we'd like you to meet! 😍 Please welcome Sunny! She is a 2 year old pit mix. This happy girl has been living the good life with her foster family for the past few months! Check out what she has to say about her new life! "I really like it here with my foster moms, so far I have learned: ✨I love to watch tv! My favorite shows are the office, true crime, scary, and action movies! ✨My mom says I’m a super chewer, not sure what that means but sounds to me like I’m a super hero of some kind! 💪 ✨Just because I have 3 legs doesn’t mean it slows me down! I’m the fastest dog in the wild Wild West 🏃‍♀️💨! I love to run in the yard, get zoomies in the house, and slide on the wood floors! Sometimes I do bump into things, but foster mom says bumper cars are fun! ✨I’m a fast learner 📚✏️🎓! My trainer even says so! I’m working hard on my manners and doing really good! ✨I’m potty and crate trained! ✨I love HUMANS!! I mean they are kinda goofy looking but I love snuggling, playing, being pet, and spending time with them! My foster mom calls me her shadow! I can even hug them if they let me!! Hugs and Licks, Sunny Bunny 🐰❤️" If your interested in adopting this girl, or just want to learn more information, check out our website!
