Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Josie is a beautiful girl who loves everyone she meets!  Josie's ideal family/person will have a quiet, structured home with a solid routine.  She'll be an eager companion for runs, hikes, daily walks & playtime in a fenced in yard. If you've ever considered trying dog agility, Josie would be up for that, too!  Miss Josie would prefer to have someone who's home more than they're away, but she's been making great progress with crate training. This sweet soul is a sensitive one; she needs your love, respect and patience in order to thrive.  She's smart as a whip and eager to please; she'll gain confidence as you help her learn your daily household routine.   Josie doesn't like loud noises or chaos; she'd be happiest in a suburban or rural setting and we're recommending only older, respectful children. Josie is dog selective, so a meet and greet with any resident or frequently visiting dogs is a must! And no cats for this little lady!  If you're looking for a sweet, active girl who will enjoy cuddling on the couch as much as hiking through the woods with you, Josie could be the one for you!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. &#226&#150&#186 We do not adopt to Canada  due to border restrictions and breed-specific legislation &#226&#150&#186 We adopt & foster locally only ; within an approximately 55 mile radius of Lockport, NY 14094 USA Adoption donation includes Spay/Neuter, Vaccinations, deworming & flea treatment. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Say hello to beautiful Maggie (Meg)!!   Maggie is full of personality and full of energy! She will thrive with a family who can keep her busy and continue with her training as she settles into her new home. She does enjoy being with her people and would probably prefer a home where she is not left alone for extensive periods of time.   Maggie falls in love with everyone she meets! She wants to be the center of attention and is very respectful for people. She is a bit on the sensitive side, but I can promise you she will pour her entire heart into whatever she is doing. Maggie is quick, athletic, with springs in her feet and she picks up on skills quickly! She would probably do well in an agility class or as a running partner.   Maggie would do well with kids over the age of 12 due to her size and strength. She would do best as an only dog, or with a calmer, more mature housemate who can let her know when it’s time to stop playing. Maggie has met lots of dogs and does enjoy playing one on one. But she would not be a good confidante for a daycare or dog park setting. Her favorite way to play? Watch how fast I run!!!   Maggie has a high prey drive, so she's not good with cats or other small animals. She is crate trained, potty trained and working on her manners with her foster mom!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Bruno!! This sweet boy has had a tough past but he is ever so resilient! He LOVES people but no kitties, please! He has had a tough time recently so currently he needs to be your one and only pet. Bruno knows hand commands for sit, down, and place. He is so smart! He is housebroken BUT he does not handle change well so please expect some accidents during the first week or so in his new home. Once he settles in, when he wants or needs to go out, he will bark OR he nibbles on your knees and elbows. Yes, this sounds strange but he is trying to "talk" to you!  Bruno loves to lay on the floor or couch and have his belly and neck scratched. He loves to chew on toys, and play with treat filled toys. He loves watching out the windows and observing what's going on in his neighborhood. Bruno would love best to live in a quiet home, he loves a country setting!  Any family would be lucky to have him. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet handsome Buddy who is looking for a foster or furever home.   Here's the lowdown on him - Buddy's owner had him for two years. We were told she took him in after she found him abandoned and emaciated. Sadly, this owner kept him living outside; on a chain or in a pen that he frequently escaped. After one such escape, he came home with his leg injured. He was brought to the vet and they said his leg was fine how it was! We don't know the full circumstances, but when a volunteer went check on Buddy after he had then been attacked by another dog, she knew he needed help immediately. He was taken to the ER where it was determined Buddy would have to have his leg amputated. We made him a Diamond and he has been living as a tripod for about a year now!   Buddy is a very sweet, affectionate boy, but because of his past and extreme prey drive, he would do best as an only pet. He gets around just fine as a tripod and loves to explore and sniff everything! Buddy would also do best in a dog experience home with low traffic. Buddy LOVES going on adventures at all the local parks!  He enjoys meeting people and afterwards will chill with a chew bone and take a nap.   Please apply today to meet Buddy!  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Miss Mia is a smart, sweet, and eager-to-please young lady looking for a foster, or better yet, her furever home. Mia enjoys spending time with people and she LOVES learning. She is very food motivated and tries hard to understand what is expected of her. She has taken a basic obedience class where she picked up new commands very quickly and was eager to practice and show off her skills. Mia is still learning to be comfortable in different situations and needs a family who can give her the patience, practice, and consistency to continue to grow.  Mia has been through a lot in her life and she needs a home that can provide her firm structure and help her see all that life has to offer. She LOVES to hike and has a lot of energy and would love a family who likes to walk, hike, and explore. She has been working very hard on her car manners so she will be ready for all of those new adventures.Additinally, Mia ran her first 5k in fall 2023 and LOVED it! So as much as she's a great walking and hiking partner, she's all in for being someon's running partner too.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Are you looking for an adventure partner? A couch cuddler? A handsome hunk of a dog? Rocky is all that and more! Like many rescue dogs, Rocky had a rough start in life; he once knew the love & comfort of couch cuddling but due to no fault of his own, found himself alone, in a backyard at the end of a chain and then spending the next 1 ½ years in a local shelter. Rocky was very stressed yet loving when he finally went into his current foster home and has been a wonderful house guest ever since. The goal now is to help Rocky feel safe and secure while still giving him the necessary structure that most dogs need. Building his confidence and teaching him how to respond to stimulating situations will help Rocky be his best self. Recently, Rocky was able to spend time with a wonderful local trainer who built upon the skill set that DITR volunteers and his foster mom were teaching him. He has been practicing ‘place’, ‘wait’, ‘leave it’, ‘drop it’, ‘stay’, ‘heel’ and learning how to manage stimulating situations (other dogs, squirrels, cats, house guests). Rocky is very smart, eager to please, extremely food motivated and responsive to training. There have never been any issues with Rocky’s love of people including children – except that he thinks he is the size of a cat. He literally will try to curl upon your lap – all 65 lbs of him, or stretch himself across whatever you are doing on the couch. Or throw his paws around your neck if you are sitting – so again, this is where training can be helpful with a dog of his size. Rocky rarely barks and will spend long periods of time chewing his bone or kong (filled with peanut butter). Rocky is wonderful in his crate and will race to it because he knows he is getting a snack! He really just wants to be with his people and can be quite mellow. If you are interested in meeting Rocky, please fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Story
Hello, I am unfortunately Rehoming Winnie, she is 5 years old pit mix (I was told black lab and pitbull) I’ve had her, her whole life. She deserves better. She needs room to run and play. My senior dog can not keep up with her. She just has too much energy and it gets on his nerves. She needs someone who can take her for multiple walks or have a big enough, fenced in yard. She has no biting history. She is not fixed but is up to date on her shots and is on a monthly treatment for fleas and ticks. She has never been sick, no allergies, very healthy. Winnie is used to being with another dog, I believe with proper introduction she would be just fine with a sibling. She isn’t good with cats, not aggressive, just chases them and stresses them out. Kids, she would be good with older children I would say kids under 10 wouldn’t be great since she does get excited and likes to jump and sit on your lap. She has a great personality, very sassy. She talks back and makes you laugh all the time.
