Story
Jolene is an adult spayed female Pit Bull Terrier Mix. She weighs about 50 lbs. She is a very sweet and active girl. She is crate trained and can be particular with other dogs. She is currently at the Shelter. Volunteers For Animals periodically pulls dogs from other shelters to free up space; this helps avoid euthanizing healthy, adoptable animals. We are able to do this through the generosity of many people such as the originating shelter staff, transporters, foster volunteers and others who help with pulling fees, vet bills and finding good homes once they are here. The adoption process includes an application that is completed by the potential owner. If there are multiple applications on the same animal, the animal will go to the best home for that particular animal - not necessarily the first application. Fees for the rescues animals can range from $100 to $300 per animal which needs to be cash or a check - NO CREDIT CARDS. If you are interested in any of the Rescue dogs, please email us. Do not call the Shelter regarding rescue animals - they have no information about these dogs. All rescue animals are in foster homes with volunteers - NOT at the Shelter - unless otherwise noted.  Here is the adoption process:   To adopt an animal you must complete an application and be approved. There is a $60 fee for any animal which needs to be cash or a check - NO CREDIT CARDS. If the animal is not spayed or neutered, there is a $35 deposit which will be returned upon proof of surgery. All dogs must be licensed before leaving the Shelter. Please note that public offices that issue dog licenses are not open on Saturdays and Sundays. All cats must leave in a carrier.   Thank you for considering a homeless animal.March 2, 2024, 3:24 pm

Story
Cesar is an adult neutered male Pit Bull Terrier. He weighs about 60 lbs. He had a rough start at the Shelter but has really settled into the routine. Cesar is a very handsome and happy guy. He knows some basic commands and seems housebroken. Volunteers For Animals and Orleans Correctional Facility have developed a Dog Training & Fostering Program within the prison that will provide socialization and basic obedience training for the dogs before being adopted. Volunteers For Animals will be pulling dogs from high kill shelters and locally who may be in need of behavioral support to become more adoptable. The dogs will then be transported to Orleans Correctional Facility where they will live with selected inmates who will care for them 24 hours per day for approximately 12 weeks. Each dog will have a crate, bedding, leash, collar, training treats, and food provided by Volunteers For Animals. A certified dog trainer will provide weekly training classes for the dogs and the inmates. The inmates will then work daily to reinforce the formal training with the dogs. Adoption Procedures The adoption process includes an application that is completed by the potential owner. If there are multiple applications on the same animal, the animal will go to the best home for that particular animal - not necessarily the first application. Fees for the Path Home animals are $200 per animal which needs to be cash or a check - NO CREDIT CARDS. All of the dogs are current on vaccines, heart worm tested and spayed/neutered. If you would like to be considered for any of the Path to Home dogs, please email us. Please do not call the Shelter regarding Path Home animals - they do not have any information. Email us at info@vol4animals.org regarding this program. Next Path to Home class starts December 11th - dogs will be available for adoption approximately 12 weeks later. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.*COURTESY LISTING* Say hi to Brutus! Brutus is an absolute lovebug! He is good with adults and older children (10+). Brutus has been in the shelter for 7 months and really needs to find his furever, loving home. He is good with other dogs but no cats for this guy. A meet and greet is required with any resident dog(s) in your home. Brutus does have an injury to his ACL that we manage with carprofen, an anti-inflammatory. He has been seen by Veterinary Care of Cuba who agree that the injury should be able to be maintained with this medication for the rest of his life rather than surgery. (The medication is fairly inexpensive monthly) If interested in Brutus, please contact our friends at the SPCA in Cattaraugus County.
