Story
Roxy, Staffordshire Terrier, 8 yrs., 56 lbs. Roxy is a very kind soul. She loves people and loves to spend her time with them. She loves her couch and especially if she can lay beside you preferably with her head in your lap. She likes to play with toys and likes to play fetch but won’t bring it back to you. She loves to go for rides and lay out in the sun. Roxy has been let down by people for eight years so it’s time to find someone that will love her for the rest of her life. Good with some dogs probably males and No Cats. She was in a shelter for six months before we got her out. Roxy is a happy well-adjusted girl even though her life hasn’t been the best. Story
Angus got into my life accidentaly. Whe I got married in 2019 I moved in with my ex (we divorced) and her friend/roomate. Her friend wanted a dog and adopted him, I was againt it as it was an apartment in NJ and as an experienced dog owner I just knew it wasnt the best scenario for him or for her. But she didnt listen and got him anyway. Obviously we all quickly grew attached to him. But only 2 months later she decided she was moving abroad and when I asked what she was going to do with him she just said she was gonna give him back to the shelter. I was furious, he is not a teddy bear, he is a dog and he was already abandoned once. So I stepped in and didnt let her and took him as mine. The years passed and I was able to overcome the chalenges of having a dog, I divorced, we relocated to colorado. But now I have to relocate again and I just cant bring him with me. Im heartbroken. But hopefully Ill find a stable family who is ready to take good care of him. He is really great.

Story
Meet Max (aka Maximillian, Maximus) Max is a 4-year-old American Staffordshire mix with a handsome blue-gray coat, a big watermelon head, and soulful, expressive eyes. At 68 lbs of solid muscle (his head is easily 35 lbs of that), he’s an athletic, powerful dog with a truly soft heart. Max is loyal, affectionate, and deeply bonded to his people. Once he feels safe, he’s playful, snuggly, and loves being close. He’s house-trained, crate-trained, and thrives with routine, structure, and clear expectations. Max is a sensitive dog whose world has been turned upside down. New environments, people, and dogs can be overwhelming at first, so he needs a dog-savvy, breed-experienced adopter who understands canine body language and can step in early to keep him feeling calm and safe. On leash, he can become excited and reactive around unfamiliar dogs, making continued training and proactive handling essential. Adopted as a puppy and later surrendered through no fault of his own, Max is exactly the kind of dog who can struggle in the system simply because he needs understanding and stability. The right adopter won’t just be giving Max a home—they’ll be giving him safety, stability, and quite literally a second chance. He’s very playful and has shown himself to be extremely gentle and respectful with his older, smaller foster sister, adjusting his energy beautifully. Because of his size and sensitivity, he’s best suited for an adult-only home that can manage introductions thoughtfully and advocate for his space. With structure, consistency, and a little patience, Max blossoms into a devoted, goofy, and incredibly loving companion. For the right person, he’s an exceptionally rewarding dog and a loyal best friend for life. P.S. he’s a teensy bit slobbery 🤤 Max is in foster in Denver, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/max You can apply for our wonderful dogs at https://www.milehighcanine.org/adopt/adoption-application/.
