Story
Senior alert! This spunky, older fellow is around 55 pounds, 8-10ish years old, and we believe a boxer/pit mix. His four-year-old human foster sibling named him Rex! Rex has had rough life as evidenced by the roadmap of scars on his skin. He was skinny and unhealthy when rescued with terrible allergies, parasites, some lumps that needed to be removed, and teeth that needed cleaning. Rex was picked up as a stray in Houston with many painful, ulcerated burn marks on his paws and underside, thought to be from trauma from being on concrete in the hot sun. He then almost lost his life when he landed on the euthanasia list due to space at a high kill shelter. Despite all of those things, Rex loves people and his forgiveness for our species is very gracious. He reminds us all that age is just a number and resilience can open doors for life to improve for the better. Rex has done well with the kids and all the other dogs in his foster home. He seems to be crate trained and housetrained. We are looking for a forever family to spoil Rex for his remaining time on earth. We have promised to find him a family that will give him regular meals, cuddles, stability, and vet care (though he definitely has a phobia/distrust of the doctor’s office😬). He also requests bed and furniture privileges as he’s becoming rather accustomed to those and appreciates snuggling under his blankets 😂. He is not shy about demanding what he wants and has quite the personality. Rex is still fairly spry and with decent mobility for his age, though he does benefit from some arthritis management. Rex would most appreciate a mature household where he can be a happy home-body living his best predictable life complete with daily treats and pets. Rex is being fostered in Fort Collins, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/rex/. Story
Raisin is a 6-7 year old, Boxer mix. She found herself on death row at a high kill shelter due to lack of space. She entered the shelter with puppies and they were all adopted and/or went to rescues. She was facing a fate no mama dog should. Luckily, a foster stepped up and saved her life! Raisin as been recuperating from the years of stress on her body. She’s now been spayed, undergone treatment for heartworms, and is gaining the weight her body has needed for far too long. Raisin requests a forever home with excellent sun exposure, as she LOVES a good cat nap in the sun. Have cats and dogs already? Raisin doesn’t care! She’s friendly with all (large and small). Raisin is house trained and dog door trained. While she makes an excellent snuggle buddy, she’s spry and has pep in her step. She enjoys tug, playing with toys, and taking car rides. She’s really quite a turnkey dog for those seeking less work with optimal reward! Story
Meet Charlotte! 💕🐶 Charlotte is a gentle 3.5-month-old sweetheart who is learning how wonderful life can be! Though she is timid around humans and needs time to build trust, her progress is slow but steady. With patience and love, she will continue to blossom into the amazing dog she’s meant to be. Charlotte adores other animals and will absolutely need a home with another confident dog to help show her the ropes. She finds comfort and confidence in the company of other pups. She’s about 80% house trained and already knows “sit” and “wait” – such a smart girl! She will also need daily exercise to help her build confidence and continue her progress. If you have a loving heart, a little patience, and a furry friend ready to welcome Charlotte, she will reward you with a lifetime of love. Could you be the perfect match for this sweet soul? 🏡💕 Charlotte is in foster in Castle Rock, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/charlotte You can apply for our wonderful dogs at https://www.milehighcanine.org/adopt/adoption-application/.

Story
If you were to ask Sierra’s foster mom how to best describe her personality, she’d say ‘perfect.’ Sierra is a loving, low maintenance, easy-going, sweet girl with such soulful eyes. She herself at a very high intake shelter in Texas, extremely emaciated, and up for euthanasia due to lack of space and heartworms. A fellow Texas rescuer saw her plea and wanted to help….and well, the rest is history. Sierra joined MHCR and quickly adapted to the finer things in life – ya know, food, warmth, comfy beds, love. She’s put on some much-needed weight (a healthy 47 lbs now), has a wide variety of cozy fleece sweaters, received treatment for her heartworms, got her teeth cleaned, and verified she was, in fact, spayed. She’s now ready to find her forever home! Sierra is crate trained; however you won’t have any trouble at all if you choose to allow her free roam. She’s house-trained, walks easily on a leash, prefers to not sit on furniture, and even rides well in a car (although she needs a hoist getting in). It doesn’t stop there. Sierra is also CAT and dog friendly. A gem! An absolute gem. We estimate her age to be 6-7 years. Sierra is in foster in Denver, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/sierra You can apply for our wonderful dogs at https://www.milehighcanine.org/adopt/adoption-application/.

Story
Available to the right adopter, who either has experience with scared dogs, or is willing to continue with her training. After spending several months with Ellie, she tells me she's for someone who is very physical. Like a long distance runner, or someone who is doing mountain climbing and would like a companion. Ellie is fantastic on the leash and will do best in a home with another confident dog and an owner who is going to take her running. Surely there's someone out there looking for an exercise partner!!!! Ellie is a precious Boxer mix, that is currently being fostered with one of our dog trainers that specializes in timid, shy and scared dogs. She is approximately two years old. She is absolutely adorable and her eyes will melt your heart but she is still pretty shy. Her foster mom thinks she would do better in a quiet home with adults or older children to work with her. Another confident dog could be helpful, but not necessary. She is dog and cat friendly, when introduced to the cat, she didn't even notice her, because Ellie was concentrating on the human. She will need an adopter, who will give her love and patience. Please consider this adorable girl as a part of your family. She deserves all the kindness and will give you a lifetime of affection. The shy dogs become the most loyal dogs, who adore their humans. (By the way, there is also discounted support/specialized training available in Fort Collins for owners of scared dogs) Her foster mom is located in Loveland, Colorado.
