Meet Ellie !! Ellie is the sweetest girl! She is approx 3 - 4 years young. Ellie was rescued as a critically ill pregnant momma dog. We were able to save Ellie but unfortunately none of her puppies survived. Ellie adores people, children, and tortoises too! Ellie loves her pup cups when she’s out and about in the car! Ellie is house and crate trained and loves going for walks and car rides!! Ellie can be selective about which dogs she would like to have as friends, . therefore she would prefer to be the only dog in the home. Ellie absolutely deserves to be someone’s princess and receive all of their love and attention. To meet Ellie please apply on www.StrayNetwork.org

Story
This friend has just arrived because their owner could no longer keep them. While owners can provide some history on their pets, our medical and behavioral teams will still evaluate them. Dogs that have lived in homes previously typically have some training established, but we cannot guarantee that those behaviors will remain consistent in a new home environment. If an animal has not lived with other pets previously, we will introduce them to cats and dogs at the shelter once they have been seen by our vet and are cleared for introductions. Our staff will spend some time getting to know them and we will update their bio with more information as we learn. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
Meet ROCKY! Rocky is a handsome Elderbull (9 yrs) who wants a human pal that he can worship and share adventures will. Rocky suffers from dry eye that went untreated and he has lived with painful eyes for some time now (one of the worst cases we have ever seen!). He is currently getting 3 types of eye drops several times a day to give him some relief and help his eyes produce lubricating tears again. Rocky is a champ with his eye drops because he knows they are helping him! Rocky also has a cherry eye (exposed tear duct) which may need surgery to correct. Right now he is enjoying the relief from constant eye pain &#239&#191&#188- it's almost like he has found the fountain of youth! Rocky will be neutered later this month (pre-surgical bloodwork looks great!) and will be available for adoption soon after. His eye care will be lifelong but we hope to be able to reduce the number of drops and frequency (under vet supervision) in time. Rocky has been vaccinated, heartworm tested negative and micro chipped. Rocky is a great traveler! He enjoys wilderness walks but mostly wants to be with his person. Rocky would like to be your one-and-only pup so he can soak up all the love! Looking for a sweet Elderbull? Apply at www.CompAnimals.org &#226&#157&#164&#239&#184&#143 Adoption $200. June 19, 2024, 10:29 am

Story
I have to start by stating that it is very difficult for us to consider rehoming Moxie. She is a 7 year old Pit/German Shepherd/Coonhound mix. We adopted her from a shelter back in a time when our schedules enabled us to give her lots of love and attention. Additionally, our new baby is exhibiting signs of an allergy. She is so wonderful with our kids (3 mo old baby and 2.5 y/o). She let’s our toddler pull on her and climb all over her. She ignores the baby. She loves playing with other dogs— although she may bark at them while on leash. She just wants to play with cats but they can get annoyed with her relentless curiosity… She spends most of her day sleeping on her dog bed upstairs and loves when she can sunbathe in the yard and on the deck. While she used to be very active, she’s pretty low maintenance now. She can get anxious about loud noises and barks to protect the house. Moxie deserves the best owner(s) with room on their couch (and in their hearts) to snuggle an 80 pound mutt.

Story
Harlee joined our family when she was 8 weeks old. She is very sweet, relaxed, and super smart. She has been housebroken since she was a puppy. Amazing with people especially kids. Harlee is also VERY GOOD with other dogs. She has had one litter than was spayed. Her new forever home should have time for walks, a back yard for her to sun bath and of coarse lots of love and treats. My biggest wish would be for someone to adopt not only Harlee but my male dog Max also. They are truly bonded and have never been separated since the first day we added Max to the family. He is also super sweet! He is a big dog who thinks he’s a lap dog! Both dogs have been socialized with adults, kids and other dogs. They have never been around cats so I’m not sure what the interaction would be. Harlee is a lowrider pit with lots of muscle and a big head. Max is a tall muscular dog who has an amazing build. Max has NOT been neutered.

Story
I own both the mother and father of Gunner. He was the pick of the litter. Everyone loved his beautiful blue/silvery coat and perfect build. Gunner takes after his dad in size. We knew he was going to be a big boy from birth! Huge paws, big head, and the sweetest disposition. Honestly he was everyone’s first choice but we could not let him go. There is something so special about him. Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances I can no longer house my 3 dogs. My dream would be for gunner to be with a family who has time to train him (loves learning new tricks for treats and affection), walk him, and have a big yard for him to run. He loves playing with other dogs and kids. He thinks he’s a lap dog and does not know what personal space is lol he just wants all your attention and love.

Story
ABOUT DIOR Dior is a 2 year old terrier mix that loves her friends! Dior came to HAP in January, when she was found wandering as a stray in Wilmington. We were able to find her owner, but, sadly, they never came to reclaim her. Dior is confused to be here, but she is always sweet with our staff and volunteers. Dior is not a huge fan of other dogs, which has made the shelter environment extra stressful for her. She has been overlooked by adopters for her kennel presence, often seen barking or jumping. However, once she is out of her kennel and away from all the noise, she melts into an affectionate and goofy girl. Dior recently spent the day outside of the shelter, through HAP's Doggy Day Out program, where her true personality shined! Dior enjoys car rides and sprawling out in the backseat. She LOVED having a fenced yard to run around and get her zoomies out. Whether she is playing tug with you or tossing toys around on her own, she is super playful! After some exercise, she can be found leaning into the nearest person to soak up some love. She made a visit to our friends at Riverfront Pets to pick out a toy and some snacks, before heading back to the shelter. By the end of the day, Dior was snoozing away in her kennel, happy to have had such a fun and relaxing day! While Dior is seeking a home without other pets, she has previously lived with children and did well! She would likely do best with dog-savvy kids, as she has an energetic, silly playstyle! **Dior would need to be the only pet in your home. If you are interested in adopting Dior, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. Story
ABOUT ZOEY This lady is a very, very sweet girl. Zoey is a 5.5 year old boxer mix that is sure to melt her way into your heart and lap! She came to HAP when her owner could no longer care for her. Understandably, she was really depressed her first few days in the shelter, often found shaking in her kennel. She has since opened up, showing us how affectionate and smart she is. Zoey knows tons of commands, including 'sit', 'sit pretty', 'down', 'stand', and knows gives you both of her paws. She is very laid-back and walks beautifully with a harness. She enjoys her walks and loves to sniff everything! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals.
