Story
ABOUT ZEUS Zeus came to HAP after his owner passed away. At 7 years old, adjusting to shelter life after living in a loving home has been challenging for him. However, once he realized we all think he’s the cutest guy, he started to warm up to the place! Zeus has become a bit of a celebrity around HAP. Our animal caretakers often take him on walks through the building, where he happily stops to greet all his human friends. In true bully breed fashion, he can be a little stubborn, he now insists on visiting his friends after his outdoor walks. What can we say? The love has become an essential part of his routine! When he’s not soaking up attention, Zeus is a laid-back, easygoing senior pup who enjoys chewing on bones and going for short, leisurely walks. He is friendly with new people, easily won over by treats, and very affectionate. He enjoys long car rides, showing off his tricks, and melting into his friends for love! Given his age and size, Zeus is a low-maintenance companion who spends most of his day lounging or napping! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
ABOUT AJ Grab the tissues and fall in love. In 2025, a beautiful pregnant mama was abandoned on our property. Less than a week later, she gave birth to a litter of eight pups, so you can probably see where this is going. Adorable AJ was born safely in foster care, surrounded by love from the very beginning. As he grew, AJ faced his first big challenge. His foster noticed symptoms of parvovirus, a serious and often fatal illness. He was rushed in for emergency treatment, and thankfully, AJ pulled through like the little fighter he is. After recovering, AJ was adopted as a puppy, but his journey wasn’t over yet. As he got older, his adopters began to notice ongoing food sensitivities that went beyond the occasional upset stomach. Wanting what was best for him, they made the difficult decision to return him to the shelter when they realized they couldn’t meet his medical needs. Since then, AJ has undergone extensive testing and has been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD). Thankfully, IBD is easily managed with a restrictive diet, so no table scraps for this guy! While AJ lost some weight in his previous home, due to IBD, he is now on a weight gain journey and making amazing progress! Despite all he has been through in this first year of life, AJ is a resilient, loving boy. AJ is a playful, joyful pup who brings a perfect mix of energy and affection wherever he goes. He walks beautifully on leash, even without a harness, and naturally sticks close by your side, making him a wonderful companion for strolls and everyday adventures. Anytime he is spooked or unsure, all it takes is a gentle crouch or a kind word, and he’ll come right over for reassurance, soaking up comfort from his person. AJ is bouncy, silly, and endlessly sweet, with a personality that’s hard not to fall for. He’s highly treat-motivated, which makes him eager to learn and a great candidate for continued training. While he hasn’t had the chance to fully play with other dogs yet, he’s shown friendly interest when passing them and has previously lived with dogs, suggesting he could do well with a canine companion! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Tank is a 3-year-old, slightly under 40 lbs, boxer mix that was found as a stray during his initial stay at the Gloucester County Animal Shelter. His original owners reclaimed him only to return him and his littermate at a later date for reasons not related to Tank. He was then adopted a second time just a few days later, only to be returned due to “guarding his food bowl from their five resident cats”.   When Tank was at the shelter, he shook terribly and would hide in the outer parts of the kennel, hardly being noticed and full of fear and stress. His chances were very slim, so he was pulled by his volunteer buddy.   Tank was pulled into a loving foster home in November 19, and has had time to decompress and shine! He has shown zero guarding concerns towards foster, and is respectful towards small critters (ferrets and guinea pigs in the home). They are not loose in his presence, but he goes over to their habitats, is friendly and respectful of them, and wags his tail.    Tank is not housebroken; he is working hard at it and has improved, but even the vet believes it is 2 and a half years of learned behavior, where he was never taught, so now we are breaking old habits that are instilled in him. He wears washable belly bands that work as diapers for his urine as needed, or when home we just frequently observe and let him out to potty.    Tank is dog selective, and lived in a home with cats prior. However, must go to a home that is savvy and can allow safe separation for cats and eating times. Tank is very kid friendly to respectful children, and does well with women and men. He walks well on a leash, is crate trained, and has learned commands such as “kennel up”, sit and shake. Tank is a complete LOVER, loves to be wrapped up under a blanket laying with his family. If you want a snuggler, Tank is 100% down for that!!    He loves he benebones, cheek rolls and toys so very much, and although he loves the big back yard so much, he prefers hanging out inside, snuggling to watch a show, and chewing a bone with his friends. He gets the zoomies, loves fetch and then is ready to come inside. As a very anxious pup, Tank has overcome so much at such a young age, and his foster family will foster him for as long as it takes to find him his PERFECT match!!    Now with SJR as of late March, we are looking for someone who either works from home, is retired or simply home more times than not, in a quiet home. Tank loves companionship!! He also will thrive with a family who can continually take him out to potty and be understanding and patient. He is a certified foodie, loves snacks and thrives on structure and routine.    He needs a family that will love him unconditionally and not give up on him. Tank really is a genuine sweetheart and loves all of the friends we introduce him to!!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 27, 2026, 7:45 pm

Please contact Darlene at 302-312-5129 (fureverpawsdogrescue@gmail.com) for more information about this pet.  This dog is located in Newark, DE. Visit us on the web at https://fur-everpaws.com/fur-ever-paws-adoption-application/ to submit an application. Please contact the foster directly at 302-312-5129 (text or call) or via email at fureverpawsdogrescue@gmail.com Fur Ever Paws Dog Rescue is a small no kill rescue operating in the Delaware/Maryland area. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit that rescues and places homeless, neglected or abused dogs from high-kill shelters in the south into loving, responsible committed and permanent homes. We feel our comprehensive adoption process which includes not only taking the time to match the dog to the prospective new owner but helping to educate that owner in responsible dog care, allows us to find the best homes for our little buddies and the best companions for you! Each week we use USDA certified transports to bring dogs from high-kill shelters in the south to our fosters where they all receive the appropriate medical care and are placed in nurturing loving homes while they await placement in their forever homes. Interested in one of our dogs? Great! Now that you've seen them here you'll need to go to our website where you'll find our list of adoptable dogs (updated every week). Then, it's just a simple process of finding a dog you're interested in and filling out an application on our site. Once we receive your application, whoever is fostering that particular dog will contact you and do a short over the phone interview to complete your application process. If everything works out, they will set an appointment with you so come out and "visit" with the dog you're interested in (we want to make sure that not only are you a good fit for the dog but that the dog will fit with you). If everything works out, you'll be able to take rover (or spot, or jax) home with you that very day. A couple of things you should know: We can't hold dogs over the phone or via email. Adoption fees vary based on breed. All of our dogs have been vet checked and dewormed (if possible due to age, additional treatment may be needed). We provide a spay or neuter voucher to all of our adopters. April 27, 2026, 1:05 pm

Story
ABOUT PRECIOUS Meet Precious! This chonky pittie girl was surrendered to us due to her owners not being able to care for her any more. Precious has lived with cats and children, but she was attacked by two dogs when she was younger so she can be very scared of them. Even though Precious has not had the best experiences with other dogs, she was able to make a doggy friend while being here! She just needs patience, understanding, and someone who does not mind a dog who is a huge cuddle bug. Precious would do well in a calm home environment where there is not a lot going on since she is an older girl and loves to nap! Quiet time, cuddles, and zoomies are her favorite things! If you are looking for a sweet, chonky potato to bring home and add to your family, come meet with Precious! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. Story
ABOUT SUGAR COOKIE As her name would suggest, this lady is sweet as sugar! Sugar Cookie came to HAP when she was abandoned as a stray. Despite looking for her owner, sadly, no one came looking for her. We estimate her to be around 6 years old. While many pups may lose trust after being abandoned, that is not our Sugar! She loves people and making new friends! When she's not leaning into your legs or climbing in your lap for love, she can usually be seen curled up on her bed for a nice, long nap. Sugar has made some doggy friends at the shelter too, though she prefers more laid-back pups. She already knows basic commands, appears house-trained and walks well on a leash. Sugar has thrived participating in our Doggy Day Out program, check out what one volunteer had to say about her: "Today I hung out with Sugar Cookie. She is just the sweetest thing, she did so great in the car, and loved sitting on my friends laps so she could stick her head out the window. We went on a walk and ran around the back yard. Sugar was pretty good on a leash and only needed some redirection (which she responded very well to). She loved feeling the snow on her paws. We then went back in to have a dance party where she jumped and ran around the whole time. Eventually she got tired out and we snuggled on the couch. She truly is the most precious, loving dog who deserves the BEST home ever. I love her." - Grace "Got to take out the sweetest Sugar Cookie today. She's truly an angel and was so good the whole time. She walked very nicely on her leash, stayed calm the whole time, and wanted to say hi to everyone. Everyone who met her on the walk loved her and she loved getting butt scratches from everyone haha. She'd be a wonderful addition to any home " - Anna "Sugar Cookie is a sweet pitty girl. She is very sweet and loves her people so we decided it was time to take her out and about. She walks well on the leash but is a strong girl and can pull a little bit. She takes her treats nicely and knows basic commands. She was pretty well-behaved inside a public establishment with multiple other dogs around. She met lots of people, including some kids at both establishments we visited. She rode well in the car and just enjoyed looking out the windows and sniffing the air! I would not hesitate to take her out and about again so she can show everyone how great she is!" - Tim.
