Story
Meet Margot – or as her foster family lovingly calls her, “Sweet Lady Margot” – the hidden gem everyone has been missing out on! At around 2 years old, Margot has already mastered all the hard stuff—she’s fully housebroken, crate trained, walks like a pro on a leash, and has fantastic house manners. While the puppies steal all the attention, Margot just sits there with her big smile and silky, seal-colored fur thinking, “Why deal with all that chewing, potty training, and chaos when you could have ME?” She knows “sit,” is working on “stay” and “leave it,” and loves showing off how smart she is. Margot also has a favorite cow toy that she proudly carries around like her own emotional support cow—it’s the cutest thing ever! Margot is wonderful with adults and children alike, making her a great fit for just about any family. With dogs, she prefers slow introductions, but once she warms up, she’s all in—she and her foster dog sibling are now best buds. Margot is the perfect mix of playful sidekick and professional snuggler. Whether you’re heading out for a walk or curling up on the couch, she just wants to be by your side. She’s sweet, silly, easygoing, and basically the whole package—how she hasn’t had a single meet-and-greet yet is beyond us! Whoever scoops up Margot is going to hit the jackpot. Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process. Please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Story
Meet Etson! Etson, fondly called Eddy or Mr. Wiggles by his foster Mom, is a 7 month old, 35 lb, lab bully mix from Texas. Eddy is an adventure loving, playful, love bug! He loves riding in the car, playing with his toys, going on walks and giving kisses to everyone he meets. Eddy has met young kids on walks and done well, but doesn’t currently live with any. He hasn’t met any cats, but has no interest in squirrels or bunnies. He lives with another dog in his foster home and they love running and playing together in the yard. Fetch is one of his favorite games. When his foster brother gets tired Eddy is happy to play with his stuffed toys. Throwing them in the air and wrestling with them. Or he’s happy to chew a bone in his crate. Eddy is working on potty training, but does sleep through the night in his crate with no accidents. Eddy loves, loves food. His body vibrates with joy during his sit before eating. If you are looking for a sweet, playful, outgoing companion Eddy might be the perfect fit for you. Our standard adoption fee is $375 if paid by cash or check, or $385 if paid by credit card (which includes a $10 processing fee). This fee covers spay/neuter surgery when age appropriate at one of our participating veterinarians, age-appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative, and microchipping. In order to be considered for adoption, we require a fully completed application, a phone interview, and a meet-and-greet with your entire family. Please note that submitting an application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee approval—it simply allows us to begin the review process. If you are interested in adopting or would like additional information, please email us at adopt@safehavendogsIL.org to request an application. Keep in mind that the breed and size listed in each dog's biography are our best educated guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse the adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant for any reason.

Story
🐾 Meet Fletcher – A Loyal Soul Learning to Trust Again 🐾 Fletcher’s story didn’t start kindly. He came to us from a Texas shelter where dogs are euthanized for space, and he was running out of time. We don’t know the full details of his past, but it’s clear Fletcher loved his humans deeply — and was abandoned and let down. When Fletcher arrived, he had a large scar on his back leg, a quiet reminder of the neglect he endured before rescue. The injury rarely causes him to limp, and he has been fully vet-checked and medically cleared. It’s an old injury and no further medical care is needed. Because of this history, Fletcher is slow to warm up. He wants to love again, but he’s afraid to give his whole heart and risk being hurt another time. Once he trusts you, his loyalty is unmatched. 🏡 At Home Fletcher is a champion sleeper and an elite cuddler. He’s calm, laid-back indoors, and happiest curled up next to his person — often taking over the entire bed. A home that doesn’t mind a bed hog is a must! 🐶 With Other Dogs Fletcher does great with other dogs and enjoys their company, but he needs slow, respectful introductions. As long as the other dog is friendly with him, he does very well. 👨‍👩‍👧 With People & Kids Fletcher is warming up more every day but still needs his space at times. He does best with adults or older kids who understand dog body language and boundaries. Younger children are not his ideal match. When he’s uncomfortable, he will back up and growl — he has never snapped. We strongly believe in respecting his signals. 🎓 Training & Progress Fletcher is learning and building confidence: ✔️ Knows sit ✔️ Goes into his crate/cage ✔️ Waits for food ✔️ Continuing to learn at his own pace ✨ What Makes Fletcher Special • Deeply loyal once bonded • Emotionally intuitive — comforts you when you’re sad • Calm, relaxed energy indoors • Great with dogs after proper introductions • A true “heart dog” for the right person ⚠️ Things to Know • Nervous around new people • Very expressive and “talkative,” especially when playtime ends 🏡 Fletcher’s Ideal Home • Any activity level • Adults or older teens preferred • No young children • Large yard is a bonus • Patient, dog-savvy humans • A home that understands fear-based behaviors • Someone who will prove love can be permanent Fletcher isn’t looking for perfection — he’s looking for safety, consistency, and commitment. In return, he’ll give devotion, comfort, and a love that runs deep. If you’re willing to move at his pace and earn his trust, Fletcher will give you his whole heart. 💙🐾 Ready to meet your new best friend? I can’t wait to find my forever family! She is active, enjoys exploring her surroundings and would thrive with regular exercise and mental stimulation. Holly is also affectionate and loves to snuggle once she feels comfortable. She can be timid at first with new people but warms up with patience and has never shown aggression toward humans. She is fully potty trained, loves her daily walks and rides well in the car. Holly is not compatible with cats and would do best as the only dog in the home, though she may be suitable with select larger dogs after proper introductions.

Meet Tuba — The Fun-Loving Goofball Ready to Be Your Best Friend! Tuba is a 63-pound Staffy mix sweetheart with a soft tan-and-white coat, dazzling blue eyes, and a personality that is larger than life. This handsome guy is equal parts affectionate companion, goofy entertainer, and eager student, all wrapped up in one wiggly package! Tuba absolutely adores people and lights up the moment he sees his favorite humans coming his way. His tail starts wagging instantly, and he’s always excited for the chance to head out on an adventure. Whether he’s strolling through the neighborhood, sniffing every interesting smell he can find, or proudly climbing onto a bench to survey the world around him, Tuba approaches life with enthusiasm and curiosity. He walks nicely on leash most of the time and enjoys exploring at a relaxed pace with his people by his side. This lovable lug is also a very smart boy who truly wants to learn. Tuba already knows cues like sit, down, and touch, and he’s eager to continue building his skills with positive reinforcement, treats, and encouragement. He thrives when given guidance and structure, and he’ll do best in a home excited to continue helping him grow into the best version of himself. Watching Tuba learn and gain confidence is incredibly rewarding—he’s the kind of dog who looks to his people for reassurance and wants nothing more than to make them proud. Tuba’s excitement for life can sometimes spill over into a little extra silliness. He loves people so much that he may try to grab onto shoelaces during playtime or become a bit jumpy and mouthy when he’s especially excited. Thankfully, he’s already making great progress with training and responds very well to patient, consistent guidance. Underneath all that enthusiasm is simply a happy dog who is still learning appropriate ways to express his joy. He also enjoys the company of other dogs and is continuing to learn good social manners and appropriate play skills. With proper introductions and continued positive experiences, Tuba could make a wonderful canine companion for the right dog. At the end of the day, Tuba is a sweet, affectionate, goofy-hearted dog who just wants someone to share life with. He’s the kind of pup who will keep you laughing with his antics, warm your heart with his loving nature, and happily tag along for whatever the day brings. If you’re looking for a loyal best friend with a big personality and an even bigger heart, Tuba may be the perfect match for you! Because Tuba is an all star dog, his adoption comes with some extra benefits. HIs adoption appointment includes a discussion with our Training Team, and they will go home with their very own no-pull-harness and a few enrichment goodies to help get him off to a good start! To schedule an appointment to meet Tuba, call 847-697-2880 x:61 or email info@ahconnects.org (please include your name and phone number), and the staff will be happy to help you! Our dogs and puppies go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (7 months and over), and up to date on core vaccines, heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Their adoption also includes a free-vet exam at one of our participating veterinarians. Ask fosters@ahconnects.org about fostering Tuba, while he waits for his forever home!

Meet Baloo- King of the Center of the Bed If you are looking for a cuddly, lovable, potato, Baloo is the guy for you!! He is much more beyond the color and shape of an Idaho potato, though. Baloo adores people and enjoys spending his time around them. His warm, brown eyes are a reflection of the warmth he will bring to your heart. Baloo loves to give kisses and believes that there is no limit to giving love. Baloo doesn't mind the occasional hike, and enjoys a nice long neighbor walk in the morning sun. He is more than happy to people watch at the park, or on the front porch. But beware of squirrels! Even when he is "off-duty" Baloo is always on squirrel patrol! Baloo is house-trained, knows his basic manners, and is an eager student. Baloo prefers to be an only pup as he gets jealous of sharing attention. He also doesn't like to share his food or chews (he promises that he isn't selfish, just particular of sharing) If Baloo sounds like the guy for you, he would love to meet you! My favorite things are: Squeaky toy Pets and cuddles Laying in bed Walks My tiny owl toy Snacks Cues I know: Sit Down Touch Stand Place/Stay Recall Loose leash walking Exit cue ("This way") Bring Find Paw My adoption comes with some extra benefits at time of adoption! Baloo is an All-Star dog! His adoption comes with some extra benefits at time of adoption. Story
Meet Kokomo Joe! Looking for a big, lovable goofball to brighten your days? Look no further—Kokomo Joe is here! This 80-85+ lb mixed breed boy may have had a rough start in Texas, but he's ready to leave his past behind and find a forever home filled with love and belly rubs. Kokomo Joe's story is heartbreaking—he was abandoned and starved when his previous owner was incarcerated, leaving him to fend for himself while his housemates were fed. When he first arrived, he was painfully thin, with every rib and his hip bones showing. He also had some food aggression, but who could blame him after all he'd been through? Thankfully, with regular meals and love, he now understands he’ll never go hungry again. He’s no longer protective of his food and hasn’t shown any signs of food aggression since. Despite his past, Kokomo Joe’s spirit shines bright! He’s a true fun-loving goober who doesn’t realize his own size. Whether he’s hopping around like Tigger or cuddling up as if he’s a tiny lap dog, this big guy will keep you smiling. His crate and house manners are spot-on—zero accidents here! He’s even learned to move his crate across the floor, proving he’s as strong as he is sweet. Kokomo Joe gets along with other dogs with proper introductions and would thrive in a home that can continue his training and give him the structure he needs. His ideal family will embrace his goofy, big-hearted nature and help him become the best boy he can be. If you’re ready to welcome this big, bouncy cuddle bug into your life, Kokomo Joe is ready to meet you! Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . Story
Rory 3 months old 20 pounds Female Mixed breed If you're out on your own, feeling lonely and so cold. All you gotta do is call Rory and I’ll be there as your best friend! **Hi, I’m Rory, and I can’t wait to meet you!** I’m currently living with three doggy siblings and two senior cats. I’m so friendly that I greet new friends with sweet little kisses on their hands and will immediately ask to be picked up for some cuddles. I’m a curious and adventurous pup who loves exploring, but I always stay close to my foster moms. Recently, my foster mom took me out without a leash, and I was so attentive that the moment I lost sight of her, I ran straight back to find her. She says my recall is really impressive, even with just a little training! I’ve also been showing off my fetch skills by consistently bringing the ball back when called. I adore playing and cuddling with dogs of all sizes. I learn quickly by watching my older foster sisters and love play-fighting with my 50-pound and 80-pound sisters. I’m also very respectful of our oldest foster sister, who prefers quieter times. I’m curious about cats, too — but I always give them space. One kitty has even started napping on the couch next to me because I’m so calm and respectful around them. When I’m not busy playing, I love to relax. You’ll often find me sprawled out on the couch or curled up on a dog bed surrounded by my toys. I’m pretty independent and very good at entertaining myself while my foster moms work and my foster sisters nap. My foster moms say I’m a quick learner — I’m already picking up commands like “no,” “come,” “sit,” and “leave it.” Since I’m still young, housetraining is just getting started, but I’m doing great with indoor potty pads and am beginning to walk toward the front door when I need to go outside. At night, I sleep in a cozy crate with my favorite lamb toy. I sleep well through the night and rarely have accidents in the crate. In the morning I run straight to the front door after my foster mom lets me out of my crate, so that I can go pee outside. Then I curl up on the couch with my foster mom to grab a few more hours of sleep. I’m also a car ride rock star — I usually fall asleep right away and don’t cry on trips. If you’re looking for a playful, cuddly puppy to join your adventures and snuggle sessions, please contact Safe Haven about me — I can’t wait to meet you! Our standard adoption fee is $465. We offer a $15 discount for adopters who pay by cash or check, making the adoption fee $450. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at one of our participating veterinarians, age-appropriate core vaccinations, fecal test, deworming, current on flea and tick preventative, and microchip. To ensure the best match for both our dogs and adopters, we require a fully completed adoption application, a phone interview, and a meet-and-greet with the entire household. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. Submitting an application does not guarantee adoption and does not obligate you to adopt; it simply allows us to begin the review process.
