Story
Dexter here, just hanging out, looking for my new home. My friends say I should tell you about my pretty, very intense eyes, but I want to point out that I work very hard at doing the best picture poses of any dog you'll ever meet. You should take me home so I can be *your* muse! You might also be happy to know that I'm not one of those dogs in need of a bunch of exercise. Okay, Foster Mom said I'm "relatively lazy," and if that means I don't have to go on marathons, yay for me. A daily walk is just fine. I do like benebones and am also a fan of stuffies. See my cool blue stuffie in the picture? I'll bet Foster Mom will let me bring it to my new home! I'm a smart, smart pooch and since I'm treat motivated, training is a breeze. I weigh in at about 70 sturdy pounds, but I'm definitely a trim 70 -- I try to be in tip top shape! I'm a bit shy when I first meet people, but if you're nice to me and maybe give me some treats (subtle, right?), I'll love you BIG time! (In case you haven't gotten my hints, the way to my heart is definitely through my stomach. And my stomach likes treats.) I really am the sweetest boy. In fact, despite my size, I strongly believe that your lap is my lap and will happily join you for a big slobbery kiss. Since I'm a pretty chill guy, a low-activity, adult-only home (or one with older kids) would be best for me. And one without cats, please. I just don't understand those creatures. They are so weird! I have done well with some other dogs. We'd just need to interview each other before we become roomies. Would you like to get together to make sure I'm your forever pup? Then go ahead and call/text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387 and ask about me, Dexter! My foster home is in the Kansas City metro, but my friends will transport me to my forever home! What a deal! Or, fill out an application for Dexter by clicking on the link to apply below.

Story
Billy is the world's sweetest and smartest boy! It's true! Despite this, this 7 year old pittie has been looking for his furever home for 2 years now. He's done extensive training with his foster mom, and knows sit, lay, stay, give, paw, turn, leave it, crawl, heel, and loads of hand signals! Billy is kennel trained and house broken. So if you're looking for already trained and ready to go, then Billy is your boy! Billy would do best in a calmer home with a doggie friend; he is great with other dogs! This big boy is a bit shy at first, but once he warms up, he loves you BIG and wants to be your best buddy. Billy's adoption fee is $175 and he has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and is on flea/tick & heartworm prevention. If you'd like to meet Billy, click on the 'Apply to Adopt' tab below!

Story
Gracie is just a really lovely dog who was adopted from us as a puppy. She's had an amazing life so far but her mama was diagnosed with a terminal illness and is no longer able to care for Gracie. We have committed to finding her another loving home so her mama can rest easy, knowing Gracie is well cared for. She is adaptable and playful, and she loves a good nap on the couch or her bed. She enjoys hanging around her people and lounging on couches, and if you want to go outside, she's game for that too! She'd love a fenced yard where she can run around and be free. All that being said, her favorite thing, no matter where she is, is staring adoringly at her people and giving kisses. Gracie is 2 years old now and is a staffie mix. She is everything you are looking for in a dog: leash-trained, kennel-trained, potty-trained, and good with people, dogs, cats, and kids. What more could you ask for?! She is currently working on not jumping on people & giving them hugs upon arrival...I mean, I love doggy hugs myself, but we know not everyone does so we're working on it! Gracie's adoption fee is $175 and includes spay, microchip, vaccinations, and flea/tick & heartworm preventatives. Meet and Greets can be scheduled with Approved Adopters so get your app in today! Story
Lucy, you've got some splaining to do! (She's a dog, she can't splain it all herself, so we'll help her out) Lucy loves going places and meeting people. She takes one sniff, and then she knows you, and you're already friends. She's really sociable about town. Lucy is a 3-year-old Staffordshire Terrier mix, and she would sure like for someone to pamper her and love her. She is about 60 pounds of beauty, just the right size to pal around with. Her foster has worked with her on training, manners and socialization. She is the kind of girl who likes to play, who is good at bath time and who even knows when she might be doing something a little ornery, and will redirect easily from that. She is full of loving kindness and wants to be your best girl. She should be in a home with kids over 12, and she should be the only dog in the home. Her style of play with other dogs, which can involve nipping, doesn't always go over so well, it turns out. She comes when she is called, and she knows boundaries at home - and of course she does great on those outings where she can make new people friends. She can be a great buddy and company at home, for someone who wants four-legged love. If you want someone to share your days and evenings with, and who would happily be on the receiving end of all of your spoiling, she's your girl. She's house trained and crate trained. Lucy is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. She is on heartworm prevention and flea/tick preventative. Her adoption fee is $175. To meet her, apply at PawsitiveTailsKC.org!

We all have that one friend who is always up for a good time! The minute their eyes open they are welcoming in the day and cannot wait to see what new things life has to offer. That is Bitty Boop! Bitty Boop wakes up excited to get her day started. You are not a morning person? That's ok, she will get you going so you too can share with her all the new and exciting experiences the day has to offer. You ARE a morning person? YEA! She will hang out outside and play while you grab a cup of coffee and can join her. If you are not quite awake, she will keep herself entertained with her doggie friends and toys until you are. Take your time, she gets it, you need a few minutes to wake up. The thing is, when you see how she greets each day with joy and happiness, you will not be able to help but be joyful too. Bitty Boop is a 1 year and appears to be a Staffordshire Terrier Mix. She is a medium sized dog weighing 45lbs. This fun-loving girl is housetrained AND crate trained! She wanted to get that training stuff out of the way so she could get on to the fun stuff. She loves all her doggie friends, the more the better. She is also very respectable of her feline housemates. Good girl, Bitty Boop! Bitty Boop also does not let the rain intimidate her. She kind of likes it actually! Hey, we all need to "dance in the rain occasionally, right? Doe this girl sound like the type of friend you would like to add to your inner circle? If so, please fill out an application with PawsitiveTailsKC.org so you two can meet up. Bitty Boop is spayed, microchipped, current on vaccinations and preventatives. Her adoption fee is $175. Come share her exciting and fun world.

Today's Pupcast addresses the question... What qualities should you look for in a new furry family member? YOSHI will be leading us today. Welcome Yoshi. We are so happy to have you join us. Welcome everyone, my name is Yoshi. I am here to talk a little about what you should look for in a new furry family member. First, a little background on myself. I am a 5-month-old Shepherd/Pittie mix. When I am full grown, I will weigh approximately 60lbs. I was asked to address today's topic since I personally check all the boxes of what to look for in a wonderful furry family member! So, let us jump right in. I believe at the top of the list should be a doggo that is a great listener. They need to not only be a great listener but also knows to follow directions. For example, when they are asked to sit...they sit, when they are asked to come, they come...when they are asked to get down.... yep, they get down, (Check, check, check). You should also look for a friend that knows where to do their business (Check). Another good quality to look for is a furry friend that knows when it is bedtime to go in their crate and go to sleep, no fussing (Check). Then when looking for that special companion you should start ensuring they would enjoy the activities you enjoy. For instance, swimming, car rides, walking on a leash, and most importantly, snuggle time (Check, check, check and CHECK!). You also want them to be well socialized. What does that mean exactly, you ask? That means they should be comfortable around other furry friends, family, and visitors (Check!). One last piece of advice. When looking for a new furry family member ensure you can love them forever. They will absolutely love YOU forever. (Big Check). Thank you, Yoshi and thank you for joining us today. I will say, Yoshi, you have given us a lot to think about but I must point out...you DO check all the boxes! Folks, if you would like an opportunity to meet our special guest, please fill out an application with PawsitiveTailsKC.org. Yohi's adoption fee is $175. He is neutered, microchipped, current on age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives.

Story
We show our dogs by appointment only upon an approved adoption application. If you are reading this, we are still accepting applications for Tiana.  OUR ONLINE APPLICATION CAN BE FOUND AT KCPAWS.ORG or click this link: https://form.jotform.com/230296113596155 Meet Tiana! She is around 3-4 years old and weighs about 50 lbs. A good medium sized dog. We are so grateful we were able to get her out in time. She was so excited to come here and has been nothing but sweet to all of our staff and volunteers. Tiana is very affectionate and loves to have her wiggly butt scratched! She also loves to play in water.   Tiana, unfortunately does have some medical special needs. We took her to the vet for a third time as we had been trying to determine why she has over the last few months been prone to UTIs. After multiple test, and medication trails, it has been discovered that she has stage 2 kidney disease. Tiana came to us all the way from Texas, she had been dumped on a rural highway and left behind by her owner, she ended up at a high kill shelter and simply because she was a black pit bull, and as we know black pit bulls are the hardest dogs to find homes for, she was scheduled to be euthanized for space. I saw her sweet face on a Facebook post from the city shelter and pulled her immediately. A few days later, she was on the road to KC and to us. Cut to a year of her being at our shelter, she finds a home that I thought was going to be the best thing ever. I did her home visit, the family and home were so nice, the adopter asked great questions and kept in contact with me for a while, sending pictures and telling me how great she was. One year later, she gets brought into boarding while her adopter is out of town... and they don't come back for her. And we find that she has been having issues urinating, but her adopter hadn't taken her to the vet. So here she is again, in the shelter, I can only assume because she was having accidents, and her kidneys are failing her. Even with everything she's been through, and everything she's currently going through, she is the happiest girl. She gives everyone she meets big hugs and kisses and will do anything to get a little extra snuggle time. She is happy and loves to go for walks. Still, she is here, without a home of her own. Tiana loves people and would be great in a home with kids, however we have not had any cats around since having her so we would have to introduce her to any cats that may be in the home before we could say for sure if she would be okay with them. Tiana can be protective of her people at times, so it is important that she is in a home with owners that are committed to keeping he well socialized.  Tiana gets a long with many dogs but there have been a few that she has not meshed well with, she prefers chill, not so in your face playmates. But she would be perfectly happy to be an only dog and get all of the attention.  Much like their feline counterparts, black dogs find it difficult when it comes to adoption. Particularly larger black dogs – they are often left forgotten in what many shelter works call black dog syndrome. Basically, black pets typically are passed over for dogs and cats with different colors or unique markings.  If you have room in your heart and home for a sweet girl who eager to please, willing to learn, and very sweet, please consider applying for Tiana!September 28, 2023, 8:58 am

Meet Kate! Kate is chonky headed black beauty who is sweet as can be and has a smile that will light up a room! She adores all humans and is a very loving and affectionate girl. Kate can be a little dog selective, so if a dog comes on too strong, she may get a little growly and ask that they settle down. She is good with lowkey doggie friends. We know that Kate's perfect family is out there somewhere...could that be you? Kate's approximate birthdate is June 2020. Kate's adoption fee is $200. She will come fully vetted, heartworm tested, spayed, with a microchip and up to date on flea and tick and heartworm prevention. Meet Pippa! Where are our chonky headed doggo fans?! We have the perfect girl for you! Pippa has the biggest personality which matches perfectly with her sweet, big ol' smushy face! Pippa is very loving and adores all humans. She has so much affection to give her new family and just wants to share her love with everyone. Pippa is a bit dog selective, so as long as a dog is respectful and doesn't come on too strong, she does okay. We estimate Pippa's birthdate to be 6/13/2022. Pippa's adoption fee has been fully sponsored by the Sloppy But Lucky band, so her fee is $0!
