Story
Beaker here to spill the tea on what I'm looking for in a family! First of all I'm an expert snuggler. I want to sit on your lap whenever possible. I like to play with toys, especially the flirt pole, but I'm basically a couch potato. You want a friend to take a quick stroll around the neighborhood with and then we can watch movies or read together? I AM THAT FRIEND! Foster mom calls me a Velcro dog. I don't know what that is but I know I want to be around my people all the time. I'm kennel trained and potty trained. If you have to leave for a while that's no problem. I'll hang out at home and wait for you to return. I have a high pitched bark which is funny to foster mom because I'm a beefy guy with lots of muscles. I would probably enjoy being the only fur family member in the home simply because your lap does not have room for another dog or cat.

Story
We show our dogs by appointment only upon an approved adoption application. If you are reading this, we are still accepting applications for Tiana.  OUR ONLINE APPLICATION CAN BE FOUND AT KCPAWS.ORG or click this link: https://form.jotform.com/230296113596155 Meet Tiana! She is around 3-4 years old and weighs about 50 lbs. A good medium sized dog. We are so grateful we were able to get her out in time. She was so excited to come here and has been nothing but sweet to all of our staff and volunteers. Tiana is very affectionate and loves to have her wiggly butt scratched! She also loves to play in water.   Tiana, unfortunately does have some medical special needs. We took her to the vet for a third time as we had been trying to determine why she has over the last few months been prone to UTIs. After multiple test, and medication trails, it has been discovered that she has stage 2 kidney disease. Tiana came to us all the way from Texas, she had been dumped on a rural highway and left behind by her owner, she ended up at a high kill shelter and simply because she was a black pit bull, and as we know black pit bulls are the hardest dogs to find homes for, she was scheduled to be euthanized for space. I saw her sweet face on a Facebook post from the city shelter and pulled her immediately. A few days later, she was on the road to KC and to us. Cut to a year of her being at our shelter, she finds a home that I thought was going to be the best thing ever. I did her home visit, the family and home were so nice, the adopter asked great questions and kept in contact with me for a while, sending pictures and telling me how great she was. One year later, she gets brought into boarding while her adopter is out of town... and they don't come back for her. And we find that she has been having issues urinating, but her adopter hadn't taken her to the vet. So here she is again, in the shelter, I can only assume because she was having accidents, and her kidneys are failing her. Even with everything she's been through, and everything she's currently going through, she is the happiest girl. She gives everyone she meets big hugs and kisses and will do anything to get a little extra snuggle time. She is happy and loves to go for walks. Still, she is here, without a home of her own. Tiana loves people and would be great in a home with kids, however we have not had any cats around since having her so we would have to introduce her to any cats that may be in the home before we could say for sure if she would be okay with them. Tiana can be protective of her people at times, so it is important that she is in a home with owners that are committed to keeping he well socialized.  Tiana gets a long with many dogs but there have been a few that she has not meshed well with, she prefers chill, not so in your face playmates. But she would be perfectly happy to be an only dog and get all of the attention.  Much like their feline counterparts, black dogs find it difficult when it comes to adoption. Particularly larger black dogs – they are often left forgotten in what many shelter works call black dog syndrome. Basically, black pets typically are passed over for dogs and cats with different colors or unique markings.  If you have room in your heart and home for a sweet girl who eager to please, willing to learn, and very sweet, please consider applying for Tiana!April 29, 2024, 11:55 am

Story
Legend is 5 years old, Spayed, Microchipped, and Up to date on vetting Adoption fee SPONSORED Legend is an incredibly sweet cuddle bug who loves to give kisses and hugs to her people and loves to go for walks! She is a sensitive soul who can be nervous around new people and new surroundings, she needs a confident owner who will help her overcome her fears and set expectations for her so that she can rely on structure to help with her nerves. Legend is potty trained and walks great on a leash and knows all of her basic commands. She gets along well with calm, respectful dogs, who will give her time to warm up. She does need slower intros with new dogs as she will be nervous at first. Legend would do best in a home with no small children, but is not aggressive towards kids, the loud noises and fast movements just make her nervous and she would be most comfortable in an adult only home or possibly teenage age kids rather than young children.  Legend is really the sweetest dog with a little patience and TLC, She just needs a little time to come out of her shell. Once she does, you'll never get her out of your lap!  April 29, 2024, 11:55 am

Story
Meet Espresso! Unfortunately we will never know this sweet old man's past, other than he was found as a stray and taken to a kill shelter where he was euth listed only because of his age. The only dog in an empty row they decided wasn't worth living and to walk down the hall and never return. We could not let that be his fate. Since being with us, this sweet old man has ready made a few doggie friends and does his best to keep up with the playful younger pups. Espresso is mostly concerned with any person wiling to give him a little affection. He is so thankful to be given a second chance at life and would love to be yours furever.

Story
Meet Dorothy! This sweet girl lost her home when her owner went to jail and she was left in a hotel room by herself. She is on the smaller side, weighing only 36 pounds, and uses a wheelchair due to an old spinal injury. She currently has a UTI that we are treating and a heart murmur. Her previous foster said "Dorothy is very quiet and timid, not quite interested in human touch just yet but she just got here today. She could add a little weight on her and has an old spinal injury which is resulting in her hind end paralysis. She is very good at scooting around but has some sores. I set up her kennel and she went in there immediately, it's her safe space!"

Story
Meet Wiley! This sweet senior boy is a true gentle giant. He stands very tall but has lived a hard life that's left him a little slow on his old bones. Wiley spends his days sleeping and moseying around. He is as sweet as they come, indifferent to other dogs for the most part and very loving with all people. He loves to give kisses- you can't help but love him! His foster says he is fully potty trained. He takes slow strolls on walks. He is the epitome of a gentle giant.
