Story
Cookie is around 10 years old and was adopted from KCK humane society. She is a very laid-back girl who has had a tough life. My father adopted her when she was 10 years old and she has been a great companion on those lazy days. However, Cookie likes to be the only dog and has been known to get into altercations with fellow dogs. She has no history of being aggressive towards humans. She loves sunbathing and spending her days lounging. Unfortunately, she needs to be rehomed however my father had an expected surgery and is unable to care for her. She deserves a great home with humans who will treat her like the princess she is.

Story
Samson is the best dog. We think he is 10-11 years old and the best boy to us humans. Loves cuddles and to play with a ball. Currently he was beaten up by our Great Dane pups (female 5 year old and male 1 year old) and is now scared in our home with the other dogs. He is not big on male dogs and is getting more not okay with them, so we would love for him to find a new stress free home.

Story
Daisy is a very sweet and loving girl. She takes some time to warm up to new people. She needs a home where she can be the only dog, though she doesn't mind cats. Daisy LOVES to play fetch and go on long walks. She has lots of energy but still loves to cuddle. She was born on 11/15/2017. We adopted her from Unleashed Pet Rescue. We have had her since she was 2 months old. We are not sure of her exact breed. We guess that she is an American Staffordshire mix.

Story
We show our dogs by appointment only upon an approved adoption application. If you are reading this, we are still accepting applications for Tiana.  OUR ONLINE APPLICATION CAN BE FOUND AT KCPAWS.ORG or click this link: https://form.jotform.com/230296113596155 Meet Tiana! She is around 4-5 years old and weighs about 50 lbs. A good medium sized dog. We are so grateful we were able to get her out in time. She was so excited to come here and has been nothing but sweet to all of our staff and volunteers. Tiana is very affectionate and loves to have her wiggly butt scratched! She also loves to play in water.   Tiana, unfortunately does have some medical special needs. We took her to the vet for a third time as we had been trying to determine why she has over the last few months been prone to UTIs. After multiple test, and medication trails, it has been discovered that she has stage 4 kidney disease. Tiana came to us all the way from Texas, she had been dumped on a rural highway and left behind by her owner, she ended up at a high kill shelter and simply because she was a black pit bull, and as we know black pit bulls are the hardest dogs to find homes for, she was scheduled to be euthanized for space. I saw her sweet face on a Facebook post from the city shelter and pulled her immediately. A few days later, she was on the road to KC and to us. Cut to a year of her being at our shelter, she finds a home that I thought was going to be the best thing ever. I did her home visit, the family and home were so nice, the adopter asked great questions and kept in contact with me for a while, sending pictures and telling me how great she was. One year later, she gets brought into boarding while her adopter is out of town... and they don't come back for her. And we find that she has been having issues urinating, but her adopter hadn't taken her to the vet. So here she is again, in the shelter, I can only assume because she was having accidents, and her kidneys are failing her. Even with everything she's been through, and everything she's currently going through, she is the happiest girl. She gives everyone she meets big hugs and kisses and will do anything to get a little extra snuggle time. She is happy and loves to go for walks. Still, she is here, without a home of her own. Tiana loves people and would be great in a home with kids, however we have not had any cats around since having her so we would have to introduce her to any cats that may be in the home before we could say for sure if she would be okay with them. Tiana can be protective of her people at times, so it is important that she is in a home with owners that are committed to keeping he well socialized.  Tiana gets a long with many dogs but there have been a few that she has not meshed well with, she prefers chill, not so in your face playmates. But she would be perfectly happy to be an only dog and get all of the attention.  Much like their feline counterparts, black dogs find it difficult when it comes to adoption. Particularly larger black dogs – they are often left forgotten in what many shelter works call black dog syndrome. Basically, black pets typically are passed over for dogs and cats with different colors or unique markings.  If you have room in your heart and home for a sweet girl who eager to please, willing to learn, and very sweet, please consider applying for Tiana!October 1, 2024, 9:15 am

Story
Rawlings is a medium size, young dog that is housebroken, crate trained, travels well, walks well on a lead, rides well and enjoys a good bath (does not like his nails trimmed). He is short haired, likes to be clean and sheds little. He knows sit, stay and go to bed. He likes his dinner in his crate, loves chew bones and all toys. He does great with his canine foster brothers and sisters, who are all larger and older than he is. Rawlings is well behaved and well mannered, he is energetic, yet likes to be a couch potato. He is extremely intelligent and learns things quickly and learns routines quickly. He forms deep attachments to his people. He would prefer a home with older children or no children, no small animals or fowl. Rawlings ideal home would be with a mature couple, with a canine companion who is laid back and tolerant of his energy. He would also do well in a single pet home. He would be the perfect companion for someone who likes to travel with their pet, as he travels well.

Story
Meet Bucky! Bucky is a shy flower who will blossom after he gets to know you a little bit more. He has been with us for just over 2 years now, but he's been waiting for a Furever home for so much longer than that even! He came to us from another rescue that closed down and left all their animals behind in cages. Prior to that, he had been at a foster's home for a very long time. He is over 4 years old and has never actually had a family to call his own - he has grown up in the shelter system. In his previous foster home, his foster said he had a dog friend - but in our care he has really just preferred to be on his own. Change is scary for him because it's all he's known, but once he settles in he is SUCH a great boy! Rope toys are the way to his heart, he will come right out of his shell!

Story
Meet Espresso! Unfortunately we will never know this sweet old man's past, other than he was found as a stray and taken to a kill shelter where he was euth listed only because of his age. The only dog in an empty row they decided wasn't worth living and to walk down the hall and never return. We could not let that be his fate. Since being with us, this sweet old man has stolen every heart he's met. Espresso is mostly concerned with any person wiling to give him a little affection. He is so thankful to be given a second chance at life and would love to be yours furever. Espresso is good with other dogs at times, but we think we would do best in a home where he can be the only pup.
