Story
Legend is 5 years old, Spayed, Microchipped, and Up to date on vetting Adoption fee SPONSORED Legend is an incredibly sweet cuddle bug who loves to give kisses and hugs to her people and loves to go for walks! She is a sensitive soul who can be nervous around new people and new surroundings, she needs a confident owner who will help her overcome her fears and set expectations for her so that she can rely on structure to help with her nerves. Legend is potty trained and walks great on a leash and knows all of her basic commands. She gets along well with calm, respectful dogs, who will give her time to warm up. She does need slower intros with new dogs as she will be nervous at first. Legend would do best in a home with no small children, but is not aggressive towards kids, the loud noises and fast movements just make her nervous and she would be most comfortable in an adult only home or possibly teenage age kids rather than young children.  Legend is really the sweetest dog with a little patience and TLC, She just needs a little time to come out of her shell. Once she does, you'll never get her out of your lap!  February 21, 2024, 8:14 pm

We are a matched based adoption agency, if you see a dog in our program in which you are interested in adopting, please fill out our online application at kcpaws.org and one of our adoptions counselors will be in touch once your application has been screened. Please note that we do require dogs to meet all members of the family including existing pets in the home before finalizing during your in home adoption. Age:1-2 years   Weight: Medium, 40 lbs    Female, Spayed  Microchipped Meet Nimera! Nimera is a young adult Staffordshire Terrier who has quickly become a staff and volunteer favorite at KC PAWS. Mostly because of her ability to transform from a dog into a weighted blanket in seconds. If there was an award for best snuggler, we think she'd take the gold! Unfortunately, Nimera had a very rough beginning before coming to us. She was found tied to a bridge nearby our rescue. We found out she had been adopted through a 'free adoption day event' at a larger shelter the month prior. Through her microchip we found her adopter had a violent criminal history, and we believe she unfortunately suffered at his hands before he left her tied to the bridge where she was luckily found by some good Samaritans who then called us. Normally you would think she would be terrified of people. She was the opposite, so thankful to be saved and to be loved she literally jumped into our arms and we carried her back to the car! She is super snuggly, has done well with doggy playmates, especially her bff Teegan the lab mix, and loves kids.   She walks great on a leash. She is currently working on learning basic obedience and is very food motivated. We can't say for sure where she is on potty training being that we have only seen her so far in a shelter environment, so any potential adopter should be willing to potty train.    Nimera will need a home with no cats.    She is all around a great dog who just wants to be close to her people. If you would be interested in meeting her, you can fill out our online dog adoption application at kcpaws.org    February 21, 2024, 8:14 pm

Story
We show our dogs by appointment only upon an approved adoption application. If you are reading this, we are still accepting applications for Tiana.  OUR ONLINE APPLICATION CAN BE FOUND AT KCPAWS.ORG or click this link: https://form.jotform.com/230296113596155 Meet Tiana! She is around 3-4 years old and weighs about 50 lbs. A good medium sized dog. We are so grateful we were able to get her out in time. She was so excited to come here and has been nothing but sweet to all of our staff and volunteers. Tiana is very affectionate and loves to have her wiggly butt scratched! She also loves to play in water.   Tiana, unfortunately does have some medical special needs. We took her to the vet for a third time as we had been trying to determine why she has over the last few months been prone to UTIs. After multiple test, and medication trails, it has been discovered that she has stage 2 kidney disease. Tiana came to us all the way from Texas, she had been dumped on a rural highway and left behind by her owner, she ended up at a high kill shelter and simply because she was a black pit bull, and as we know black pit bulls are the hardest dogs to find homes for, she was scheduled to be euthanized for space. I saw her sweet face on a Facebook post from the city shelter and pulled her immediately. A few days later, she was on the road to KC and to us. Cut to a year of her being at our shelter, she finds a home that I thought was going to be the best thing ever. I did her home visit, the family and home were so nice, the adopter asked great questions and kept in contact with me for a while, sending pictures and telling me how great she was. One year later, she gets brought into boarding while her adopter is out of town... and they don't come back for her. And we find that she has been having issues urinating, but her adopter hadn't taken her to the vet. So here she is again, in the shelter, I can only assume because she was having accidents, and her kidneys are failing her. Even with everything she's been through, and everything she's currently going through, she is the happiest girl. She gives everyone she meets big hugs and kisses and will do anything to get a little extra snuggle time. She is happy and loves to go for walks. Still, she is here, without a home of her own. Tiana loves people and would be great in a home with kids, however we have not had any cats around since having her so we would have to introduce her to any cats that may be in the home before we could say for sure if she would be okay with them. Tiana can be protective of her people at times, so it is important that she is in a home with owners that are committed to keeping he well socialized.  Tiana gets a long with many dogs but there have been a few that she has not meshed well with, she prefers chill, not so in your face playmates. But she would be perfectly happy to be an only dog and get all of the attention.  Much like their feline counterparts, black dogs find it difficult when it comes to adoption. Particularly larger black dogs – they are often left forgotten in what many shelter works call black dog syndrome. Basically, black pets typically are passed over for dogs and cats with different colors or unique markings.  If you have room in your heart and home for a sweet girl who eager to please, willing to learn, and very sweet, please consider applying for Tiana!February 21, 2024, 8:14 pm

I am so special I got to have all of this beautiful black fur. I have been special from the start, and I love to tell you about it. I am a total woman's guy, what can I say I love the attention. Loving me will take a special person for sure. You see I can be a total dude! (Sorry in advance ladies!) When it comes to a towel, well I’ve never met one I don’t love. You will know this because I would love to have one in my mouth all the time. If given the opportunity I will hang on to your jacket sleeve, or hoody strings. Hey, I just like keeping you close, honest! I am honestly a lot, but I promise I am truly worth the headaches, and OMG moments that are sure to come. If anything, I will always keep you entertained.

Kyoko came to us on May 10, 2023. Kyoko is a very spirited girl. She loves to have her zoomies, and then a nice cuddle on your lap with all the chin kisses your heart can hold. She didn't have the best experiences with other dogs in the past, so we think that she would be best in a home with no other animals.

Banks came into our shelter on May 24, 2022. Her bark would be a perfect background sound for the Flintstones. When she is happy she will Yabba Dabba with the best of them. So yabba dabba do time, come see her for some fun, and midnight snacks! Banks enjoys being in the spotlight, so she would do best in a home without other animals. Especially ones that are smaller than her.

Story
Stewey/Stewie/Stuey was found by PRCKC Outreach December 26th. He'd been hanging around outside an apartment complex for at least 5 days in the cold and rain. It took some coaxing, but the Outreach Team was able to gain Stuart's trust enough to get him to a safe place. Stuart was transferred to us and quickly found a foster home where he is adjusting to being a puppy. He's unsure about new people, especially men but warms up with a little patience and food. Stuart is kennel trained, walks nicely on a leash, and is mostly house trained. Understandably he's a little afraid to go outside in the cold. He has a fantastic pack of foster dogs to help teach him how to be a puppy and a part of a family. Stuart likes to snuggle with his human foster parents, nap curled up with one of his foster siblings or with the laundry. I'm guessing he'll be about 60-70 lbs full grown (he only weighs ~33# now and he's still skinny).

While I get along with most dogs, I do like to chase small animals, so no cat, rabbit, or chicken friends for me! I can also be protective of my people on walks so I would prefer a home with a fenced yard for my outside activities! If I sound like a good match for you, apply to meet me!Approximate Birthdate: October 2019Adoption Fee: $200TARA's adoption fee includes: spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, heartworm test (if age appropriate), heartworm and flea prevention, and deworming. Story
This dog is a courtesy listing for one of our rescue partners Allen county animal rescue facility. They are a rural animal control shelter near Iola KS. Many dogs are brought to their facility after being found as strays, dumped, surrendered, or brought in by the city. However, because they are in such a rural town, they have a very small pool of adopters and have a hard time finding homes for the dogs in the shelter. Our promise as their rescue partner is that should someone apply through us, we will handle any transportation needed to get the dog to their forever home, we will assist with home visits, dog intros and anything needed to help get these dogs out of the shelter and into loving homes. Please fill out our online dog adoption application if you are interested in adopting this pet. Abilene is cute as a button and sweet as can be! She's only 1.5 years old and eager to learn!! She knows basic commands, is cat, dog and kid friendly, and has a million dollar wiggle butt that just can't be beat! Abilene has been waiting in the shelter a very long time despite being such a good girl! She is very playful and has a lot of energy so she would do best in an active home! She loves butt scratches and will be a lap dog anytime an opportunity presents itself!  She also knows some basic commands and is food and toy motivated which makes training fun!  Are you looking to fall in love? Look no further than this smooshy princess!February 21, 2024, 8:14 pm
