Story
Lia is a one-year-old, American Staffordshire Terrier and Labrador Retriever, weighing fifty-four pounds. We are guessing at the breed of this exceptionally sweet one year old who we rescued skeletal-like, starving. Lia has come a long way, looks great and feels good. She just wants to be close, to be near you always so who has someone home during the day would be ideal. Lia was likely severely abused and seeks affection. Abrupt and loud movements can scare Lia, so she needs a gentle calm home. "Lia has the kind of expression in her eyes that draws you in. It's as if she is trying to tell you something all the time." Lia is great with people (older kids are fine). Lia is dog selective and absolutely not good with small dogs. If you have a dog her size a trial introduction will be required. Lia is housetrained. If you have a fenced yard Lia likes to spend time supervised in the yard.  Apply at crisisdogsnc.org. We reply only to completed applications, no calls, no emails. Excellent vet references and a virtual home visit required. Your prior or current dog must be on year-round heartworm prevention. We prefer a fenced yard, but this is not required for all of our dogs. We transport by land or air whenever possible.May 30, 2023, 6:56 pm

Story
Dale is about twelve years old, and forty-eight pounds. He is a wonderful goofy character! Dale was near death when we rescued him and was skin and bones. He looked like he had given up and was on his way out. A week into fostering and he popped back, playful, enjoying food and toys and especially cuddling! He is great with other dogs and fantastic with people. His foster writes: 'Dale is so loving. I rub his head and give him kisses and he literally melts into my hands. He's such a good boy! He is going to make a great dog for someone ' Dale loves his milk bones and playing with his toy bone (see hilarious video). Dale is healthy and fully vetted. Dale has some visual impairment due to a detached retina and, we had some of his teeth pulled that caused him pain, so he prefers high-quality moist food. Dale is a playful soulful boy, one of our favorites. Many years ahead for this boy snatched from the jaws of death! Apply at crisisdogsnc.org. We reply only to completed applications, no calls. Excellent vet references and a virtual home visit required. Your prior or current dog must be on year-round heartworm prevention. We prefer a fenced yard, but this is not required for all of our dogs. We transport by land or air whenever possible.May 30, 2023, 6:56 pm

Story
Rose is an eight-month-old, Staffordshire Terrier and Labrador Retriever mix, weighing about forty-five pounds. We rescued Rose on her euthanasia day at a high kill shelter. We don't know much about Rose other than she was very traumatized when we got her, and she is so young to have go through so much uncertainty. Because of this Rose is very timid and has no aggression. Rose would do best in a home that is calm and routine until she gains confidence. Rose needs to be adopted by a woman only. Because of her past history of abuse Rose runs and hides when men enter the room. Rose is very afraid of men. Rose loves belly rubs, is working hard at her foster home on gaining confidence and loves to run around the backyard. A fenced backyard will be required. Rose requires a slow introduction to other dogs. She is timid and lacks confidence, and this can make her want to hide. Rose would be good with a mature early teen child in the home, that can understand Rose needs time to decompress and gain confidence. Rose is young and could live to be thirteen years or more. Please consider your life circumstances before applying for Rose and the long-term commitment required. We follow up regularly on all adoptions. Apply at crisisdogsnc.org. We reply only to completed applications, no calls. Excellent vet references and a virtual home visit required. Your prior or current dog must be on year-round heartworm prevention. We prefer a fenced yard, but this is not required for all of our dogs. We transport by land or air whenever possible.        May 30, 2023, 6:56 pm

Story
Amelia is a one-year-old, forty-eight-pound, American Staffordshire Terrier. Amelia is good with other dogs, mature kids ten and older, and she is not good with cats. We rescued Amelia on her euthanasia date at the shelter and put her into foster where she is coming out of her shell that protected her against abuse. Amelia is learning to trust, gives her foster mom kisses, and is already housetrained. A gentle, low-key dog who is anxious to please. She is heartworm positive, and we are covering the cost to treat Amelia. Amelia's foster tells us "Amelia 's fears dominate her from past trauma, and she would definitely do best in a home that has another dog who would be a comfort to her but who is not a barker (that scares her). She will need a quiet predictable household with someone who is home the majority of the time so that she can learn to trust. She will need a yard since she is learning to walk on a leash but walks to new environments scare her. Amelia is the BEST dog and will make a great pet for someone loving and patient since she is very low key and easy to deal with overall." Apply at crisisdogsnc.org. We reply to completed applications only, not to calls, not to emails, not to instant or private Facebook messages. Excellent vet references and a virtual home visit required. Your prior or current dog must be on year-round heartworm prevention. We prefer a fenced yard, but this is not required for all our dogs. Story
Maddie is an eleven-month-old, forty-five-pound, American Staffordshire Terrier and Labrador Retriever mix.  Maddie is full of spunk and individuality. She is housetrained, crate trained, and has had some basic command training (sit, down, place). Maddie is super smart and a little sassy! Maddie would be best as an only dog as she doesn’t care to share her toys, treats or her person with other dogs. She loves cuddles, playing with her ball & snuffle mat, and taking long walks through the woods to check out all the smells & sounds. Maddie is high energy, so a secure, fenced yard is recommended so she can chase her ball & do zoomies. Maddie would also do well with an active hiker, walker, or jogger. Maddie is good with mature kids ten and over since in her excitement she could knock a smaller child down. Maddie is very loyal and loving.  She would be a great addition to a home willing to provide a ten-to-fifteen-year commitment, so please consider your life circumstances prior to applying. Apply at crisisdogsnc.org. We reply only to completed applications, no calls, no emails. Excellent vet references and a virtual home visit required. Your prior or current dog must be on year-round heartworm prevention. We prefer a fenced yard, but this is not required for all of our dogs. Story
Toby is a nine-week-old, American Staffordshire Terrier and Labrador Retriever mix, weighing six pounds. Toby is good with dogs, cats, and mature kids ten and over. Toby is a lively rambunctious puppy! He is not expected to weigh more than twenty-five pounds fully grown. Toby was picked up by a local shelter wandering the streets and was never claimed.  This energetic pup loves to play so if you have a companion dog Toby would be very happy! Toby still needs to be housetrained since he's still a young puppy. Toby has deep green eyes and a soft blond coat. We will neuter Toby as stated in our contract, provide deworming, chip and puppy shots. You will need excellent vet references, a home visit, and a commitment for the life of the dog. Apply at crisisdogsnc.org. We reply only to completed applications, no calls, no emails. Excellent vet references and a virtual home visit required.
