Billie needs a foster or adopter who will help her through heartworm treatment. Costs are covered; she just needs a quiet home. Billie is a sweet, friendly girl who is tolerant of all sorts of handling. At a recent vet visit, her tail never stopped wagging! Billie seems to be fine with kids, and she might be okay with another big dog, with proper introductions and supervision. She needs a house with a fenced yard, and it's time for Billie to be an indoor pet!

Story
Apolla is a sweet, insecure girl in desperate need of stability, love, and guidance from an experienced dog person. She was found as a stray in Los Angeles, CA, and lived with her finders for over a year. When they broke up, Apolla's life became unstable, with lots of moves and lots of new people. Apolla eventually ended up in the shelter in Austin, Texas, where she was to be killed after a bite.  Apolla is currently in training. Her training is coming to an end and she needs an experienced foster or adopter who can provide the safety and stability she craves. Apolla's a little girl, a compact 50 pounds of solid, stocky muscle. She needs an adults-only home with people who understand and are willing to follow a trainer's instructions. Would you like to be a lifesaver? Apolla needs you! Apolla could possibly live with another friendly, confident dog, as long as it's with people who are willing to go slow. Story
Rusty first got to AAC 403+ days ago, and his “Long Term Stay” badge on his profile is one that he would love to trade in for a forever home. Throughout this time, he stayed in a short term foster. We will share all of the foster’s notes with you when you come in, but a brief summary is that this family reported that he was exceptionally trained (never had an accident in the house), walks great on leash, and is a very quiet pup who can entertain himself with a bone, puzzle or chew toy for hours.Rusty loves exercise and showing off his agility skills in the play yard. We have an agility play yard at AAC where Rusty can confidently jump through the course for treats and praise. Look through his pictures to see just how talented this guy is! Rusty’s treat motivation & natural skills with commands and agility will make him a quick learner when it comes to learning more tricks and commands with you.Volunteers and Staff always note just how sweet Rusty is. He truly makes friends with everyone he meets. Rusty is affectionate and loves cuddles on the couch, and when it comes to walks he will frequently check in with his handler. Rusty is happiest with a bully stick, kong or stuffed toy. He can entertain himself for hours doing this!Rusty has the potential to live with a well-matched dog - we`ll be happy to set up a meet and greet to ensure compatibility on everyone’s end. Will you be Rusty’s hero and help him get out of the shelter? This smart, athletic and friendly pup does not deserve to be in the shelter for another day.

Meshee is a total sweetheart! She is such an awesome dog who deserves to get through this transition in her life quickly. It`s time for her to be a beloved family member. Here`s what her foster provider has to say about her; •She`s house trained and she`ll alert you by licking/whining or waiting by the door - good girl! •VERY CALM, laid back when her person is busy and also likes to snuggle and nap with her person when given the chance •Loves PLAYING fetch and tug of war, going for walks and exploring outside-YES to a good game of squirrel chase too! •Great for car rides - can she stick her head out just a wee bit? She sooo loves that •She has a fun preferred palate - ask about it and since she does like variety, you`ll want to be viligant to not give her access to things she shouldn`t have (even if they seem tasty) •She likes to sit under the bed or sofa sometimes if loud noises are scary - very good self-calming skills Meshee! •She loves a little sunbathing on a balcony, patio or in a yard •She likes to proper intros to new dog friends. Have a resident dog? Let`s schedule a meet and greet at the shelterAre you ready to meet this sweetheart? Use the ADOPT ME button to start a conversation with her foster provider and see if she`s the perfect fit you`ve been waiting for.

Story
“Hi friends!! I’m Okra! I’m a pocket-sized itty bitty pittie who loves soft pets and cuddle sessions with my humans. I love giving hugs too, and I’ve been told I have the cutest little crooked-tail ever, which I always make sure to wag extra hard when my friends say hello! Before the shelter, my life was not too good… my old family kept me in a crate outside and I had no food or water. I also could barely stand up in there, and there was no room to go to the bathroom… Now that I’m at the shelter, I’ve made so many volunteer friends. I love getting out for walks and playtime, and my friends have given me so much love. I’ve learned some new tricks like “sit” which I’m really good at! And I also learned how to walk nicely on leash. Aside from my volunteer friends, I am not a big fan of the shelter though, and I still hope one day a new family will take me home and let me sleep inside. I hope my new family will give me treats and love like my shelter friends do.I’ve been lucky enough to go on an extended overnight with one of my volunteer besties! We’ve had so much fun playing together and going for neighborhood walks. In a home, I am super house trained and quiet, and I love playing with toys and doing puzzle games to find all the treatos. I also love watching my humans cook and do the dishes too! They are fascinating creatures. Because my life has been pretty tough, and I really struggle in the shelter, I prefer to be the only pet in a home for now. I’m still learning how to be a family dog, since no one ever let me in the house before. But trust me, I have so much love to give, you won’t be missing out with me as your one and only!!Please reach out to my volunteer friends at orangedotcrew@gmail.com if you want to learn more about me! I am a top priority for finding a home, and I promise to be the goodest boy if you give me a chance to be a part of your family.”

Story
Visiting Smokey at his kennel, he may bark for your attention - that`s his way of saying `Oh Hi!` Outside of his kennel he`s gentle, easy going, laid back, loves gentle and light touch, belly rubs and tends to avoid conflict. Smokey lost a lifelong home and even became underhoused for awhile, and underweight as a result but in due time he`ll be good as new. He had lived with 2 other dogs and his bestie was the female. His owner said he didn`t alway like other dogs. Here in the shelter we see that he passes other dogs quietly and easily, avoiding conflict even when his kennel neighbors bark at him. If you have a resident dog we can schedule a doggie meet up. Don`t pass him over - especially if you`re looking to make a difference in a life. He has so much time to make up for and would love to be part of something bigger than himself and a shelter kennel. He`s advocated for by his friends and fans including ClassicCaninesATX who help make bridges home for displaced senior dogs that took a fork in the road of life.

URGENT UPDATE!!! This sweet girl deserves the most loving, affectionate home with space to play and unfortunately, I am not able to provide that for her. She is definitely more of a homebody who loves to sit with you and cuddle! She is very sweet and affectionate. I have a 7 year old who she loves and adores so I know she’s amazing with children. As much as she likes to stay home, she is also great with other dogs and loves to socialize at our local dog park. She definitely has a big personality despite her small size. Not too sure how she is with cats as we’ve never had any experience with them. We had to quickly move from a house into a small apartment and we just don’t have enough space or the time she deserves anymore. Upon adoption, I will give her new family her kennel, dog bed, favorite blanket, and her food bowl along with the rest of her dog food.

Meet Sandy, the delightful girl with the most award-winning smile! Sandy is so very sweet, and her joyful personality is sure to brighten your day. She loves people and enjoys exploring the the trails with her favorite staff and volunteers, followed by a thorough cuddle session. Sandy is a true water enthusiast, finding boundless joy in splashing and frolicking in any body of water she can find. She also relishes a spirited game of fetch, she LOVES her tennis balls! Sandy can sometimes be picky about her doggie friends, and she appreciates playmates who are nice-natured and respectful. Her kind and gentle temperament makes her an ideal companion for families, and while she is quite fond of children, her energy level is best suited for older kids who can keep up with her! Sandy is easy to handle and walks nicely on a leash, she already knows some basic commands, and she is 100% housebroken. She has enjoyed several outings and shelter breaks with our amazing volunteers, where she always shows off her exceptional manners. She is a polite and respectful house guest, perfectly content to curl up on a soft bed surrounded by all her toys and tennis balls. Sweet Sandy has been eagerly waiting to meet her forever family, after spending many years in the shelter system. Her playful and loving nature, along with her charming smile, are sure to bring joy and laughter to whoever is lucky enough to adopt her. Meet Gil, the charming mixed breed with the soulful eyes and kindest smile! Gil stands out at the shelter with his endearing personality and gentle nature. Walking with Gil is a delightful experience, on account of his wonderful leash manners and eagerness to please. He trots happily alongside his person with a swaggy-waggy tail and most attentive gaze. While Gil absolutely adores people of all ages, he can be selective about other animal companions and we think he would be happiest as the only pet in his new home. He is remarkably intelligent, and quickly learns new skills with ease. His treat-motivated nature adds an extra layer of fun to training sessions, as he eagerly responds to cues and patiently awaits his reward! Gil is also a champion snuggle bug and he loves to cozy up in any open lap. Gil's kind disposition and affectionate nature make him the perfect furry friend for families seeking a devoted companion to share in life's adventures. Come say hello to this sweet boy, he can't wait to meet you!

Story
Hubba Hubba, Big Time Luva! This stunning brindle is Carlton, and he is one of the most affectionate dogs you'll ever meet! He's big, but folks, he's a total cuddle bug at heart. Carlton's favorite thing in the entire world is to be with his people, and his next favorite is a stuffed toy. He relishes in completely burying himself in a pile of stuffies, it's really comical (and adorable) to watch! Carlton always gives us a good laugh, he is such a goofball. While this sweet boy has spent most of his life in the shelter system, that certainly doesn't get him down. Every day he hopes to meet his forever person, patiently and quietly laying in his kennel just watching and waiting to be chosen. In the meantime, Carlton LOVES to spend his days romping in the play yards and exploring the trails with his favorite volunteers! Although he is so big and strong, he walks very nicely with his gentle-leader harness and he knows how to "heel." He also enjoys frequent outings and shelter breaks with our amazing foster families, and he absolutely thrives in a home environment! His foster mom tells us that Carlton is very calm, well-behaved, and has lovely house manners. Even though the home has 16+ acres for Carlton to roam, he much prefers to lay on the porch or curl up on his soft bed (surrounded by his stuffed toys, of course). This beautiful boy is also 100% housebroken, knows many basic commands, and he loves car rides! Something to know about Carlton is that he gets very excitable around other dogs and animals. He also has NO idea how big and powerful he is, and his play style can be rough. We think he'll be safest and happiest as the only pet in his new home, and he will most definitely appreciate having all the human attention to himself! Carlton loves his people so deeply and so dearly, whoever is lucky enough to adopt him will be blessed with the most loyal and devoted best friend.

Story
Lee is full of love despite a rough past. He was found abandoned in the fall of 2023; his finder was only able to keep him temporarily and Lee lived outside. The shift to living in a shelter kennel has been tough on Lee, and he has developed wounds on his face from rubbing against his kennel bars out of stress. But when Lee is spending time with the volunteers who love him, he proves that he is still so capable of love and joy. Lee will melt to the ground for pets and belly rubs, and he absolutely LOVES rolling around with a squeaky toy! His greatest nemesis is the squirrel, and because of Lee’s prey drive, a cat-free home would be best for him. Lee deserves a forever home filled with squeaky toys and belly rubs, and in return you will have a best friend for life.

Laila enjoys playing with other dogs here at the shelter, so she might make the perfect sister to your resident dog. To ensure compatibility, we will host a doggy meet up at AAC.
