Story
Alika is truly an amazing and gorgeous 5 y/o girl with a super sweet demeanor. She is such a loving gal, and becomes so attached to her person once she realizes how much they love and care about her.
Alika loves to play in water, especially if she's playing in it with her favorite person. I don't know if she can swim yet because she was recently returned by her owners after being with them for over 4 years, and I haven't had the opportunity to teach her, but I'm sure she would love to learn. :)
Alika loves, Loves, LOVES to be petted, and will rub against you just to let you know she's ready. She loves playing with other dogs around her size with a medium to high energy level.
This sweetie pie is a Velcro dog, and will follow you absolutely anywhere if you let her. I had her for about 11-12 months prior to her getting adopted, and during that time she absolutely loved letting my 1 y/o niece sit on her and play with her while she laid on the floor. She loved kids back then (over 4 years ago), and her recent owner had a young son that loved her, and she slept on their bed because she loves cuddles. I personally don't have kids anymore, so she would now need to be slowly introduced to any family with small children to ensure she's a good fit.
Alika doesn't really play with toys much, except maybe fetch with a ball. She loves to play a little rough with my Black Lab, chasing him around the yard. She also enjoys when we get the hose out and spray the water; she tries to jump and catch the streams. Water is her thing!
She would do best, and thrive in a home with at least one other male dog that is similar in size, as she plays a little too rough with the little ones. I don't think she's good with cats, but I can't be sure because I haven't introduced her to mine, and I don't know if her recent owners had any or not, so she will definitely need patient introductions to cats, possibly while wearing a muzzle. I do know that she is NOT good with birds.
Alika would do better in a quiet household; however, since she loves attention and loves to play, she might do just as well in an active household to be honest. She loves running around in the backyard; however, I think she would do ok without a yard as long as she gets 2-3 walks a day.
Alika is house-trained and crate-trained. She does great on her leash, but still pulls a little bit. She does know "sit, stay," and "paw/shake." She doesn't "stay" for very long though. She does great at the vet, and has no issues getting her vaccines. She is UTD on her vaccines, and is spayed.
She is heartworm positive but has received treatment and is on the mend. Alika has allergies to chicken and chicken by-products; therefore, she is currently being fed salmon and lamb as her primary protein sources with sweet potatoes or brown rice.
Alika is truly a special girl that deserves an amazing and loving, forever home.
Alika is participating in The Love Pit's iRehome program, so ongoing care and custody are provided by their foster. All behavior and medical information is provided by their caretaker, and TLP encourages all adopters to verify the information with their caretaker prior to adoption.
