Story
Our beloved Lulo has been our dog since he was 5 months old when a family in Houston surrendered him to a rescue organization. We've loved him dearly these 5 years, and we were planning to bring him with us overseas but laws prohibit importing dogs of the American Staffordshire Terrier breed, among others, which is Lulo's predominant breed. We need to find a new home or a foster home for Lulo before April 29th, which is when we leave. We love our dog and we want the best for him, so shelter surrender is not an option for us. Lulo is calm and pleasing inside the house and playful and curious outside. He loves his kids, loves walks and play, but he gets a little bit anxious when there are thunderstorms or very loud noise. He's eager to meet people on his walks and enjoys basking in the sun by himself outside (fenced backyard.) He would be very happy in a spacious home with a big backyard or some kind of "job" (any activity that utilizes his instincts and strength.)

Story
Joey was rescued from running around I-35 in Austin, TX. The person that found him was unable to keep him In his apartment, so I agreed to help out. I thought we might be able to just keep him but we are not the right home for him because we have 3 other dogs and 4 cats. He is fine with the cats and never a problem with them. He would be fine with the other dogs, but one of our mini-dachshunds who is older, does not like him and has challenged him a few times. Joey defends himself and it just doesn’t work in our house. He would be great as an only dog or with one other dog that is submissive. He loves our lab and they play well together. He has been well-trained with a $2500 investment in his training. He sits and heals very well and overall is a wonderful dog, just not in our house. He would even be a great companion for a young adult. He adores our 17 year old son. He really just wants to be close to someone and have a lot of play time. He is about 1 year old.

Story
Rusty first got to AAC 403+ days ago, and his “Long Term Stay” badge on his profile is one that he would love to trade in for a forever home. Throughout this time, he stayed in a short term foster. We will share all of the foster’s notes with you when you come in, but a brief summary is that this family reported that he was exceptionally trained (never had an accident in the house), walks great on leash, and is a very quiet pup who can entertain himself with a bone, puzzle or chew toy for hours.Rusty loves exercise and showing off his agility skills in the play yard. We have an agility play yard at AAC where Rusty can confidently jump through the course for treats and praise. Look through his pictures to see just how talented this guy is! Rusty’s treat motivation & natural skills with commands and agility will make him a quick learner when it comes to learning more tricks and commands with you.Volunteers and Staff always note just how sweet Rusty is. He truly makes friends with everyone he meets. Rusty is affectionate and loves cuddles on the couch, and when it comes to walks he will frequently check in with his handler. Rusty is happiest with a bully stick, kong or stuffed toy. He can entertain himself for hours doing this!Rusty has the potential to live with a well-matched dog - we`ll be happy to set up a meet and greet to ensure compatibility on everyone’s end. Will you be Rusty’s hero and help him get out of the shelter? This smart, athletic and friendly pup does not deserve to be in the shelter for another day.

Meshee is a total sweetheart! She is such an awesome dog who deserves to get through this transition in her life quickly. It`s time for her to be a beloved family member. Here`s what her foster provider has to say about her; •She`s house trained and she`ll alert you by licking/whining or waiting by the door - good girl! •VERY CALM, laid back when her person is busy and also likes to snuggle and nap with her person when given the chance •Loves PLAYING fetch and tug of war, going for walks and exploring outside-YES to a good game of squirrel chase too! •Great for car rides - can she stick her head out just a wee bit? She sooo loves that •She has a fun preferred palate - ask about it and since she does like variety, you`ll want to be viligant to not give her access to things she shouldn`t have (even if they seem tasty) •She likes to sit under the bed or sofa sometimes if loud noises are scary - very good self-calming skills Meshee! •She loves a little sunbathing on a balcony, patio or in a yard •She likes to proper intros to new dog friends. Have a resident dog? Let`s schedule a meet and greet at the shelterAre you ready to meet this sweetheart? Use the ADOPT ME button to start a conversation with her foster provider and see if she`s the perfect fit you`ve been waiting for.

Story
Okra! This sweet little pup is anything but bitter. Okra is described as a little couch potato, perfectly lap sized, a low rider, and delightfully snorty. Okra LOVES his people and wants to be as close as possible. He also considers himself a foodie and will gladly help you cook. This cuddly pup is a one of a kind adventure buddy who loves the water despite his little legs not being able to keep up at times! He loves loooong sniffy walks and walks very nicely without pulling. Okra adores his toys, soft beds, naps, and every treat he can get his paws on. He would make the perfect work from home friend or will happily greet you at the door when you come home with his tail going a million miles per hour. Okra will go home with goodies and the support of his volunteer advocates at Orange Dot Crew as well as free training thanks to Friends of Austin Animal Center.
