Madison is a 3yr-old, 45lbs brindle terrier that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 10/2 as a stray. When she was out in the yard, she would stay still for long periods of time but then would casually wander around. When I called her from across the yard, she slowly came to me. She is timid, cautiously friendly, and does want affection. She’s alert and looked out the gate. She took some coaxing to walk on a leash. If you have another dog, please ask the shelter to do a dog test. Madison needs TLC and affirmations to relax and then blossom. She’s a work in progress. It’s difficult to see what her true personality will be once trust is established . There’s no doubt though that she is sweet and wants to be loved. Madison is a three year-old 45 pounds brindle terrier that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 10/2 as a stray. She has small scabs on her face which are healing. Her ribs are showing. She could use some groceries. When she was out in the yard, she would stay still for long periods of time but then would casually wander around. When I called her from across the yard, she slowly came to me. She is timid, cautiously friendly, and does want affection. She’s alert and looked out the gate. She took some coaxing to walk on a leash. If you have another dog, please ask the shelter to do a dog test. Madison needs TLC and affirmations to relax and then blossom. She’s a work in progress. Meet Amber, a 56-pound Staffordshire terrier mix around 3 years old, who came to the Mesquite Animal Shelter as a stray on 3/21. The first thing you notice about her are her sad eyes, hinting at a life spent mostly outdoors. She’s recently had a litter, but despite her past, she has a sweet nature and even tried to climb into my lap. Calm, cool, and low-key, Amber is very submissive, often rolling over in hopes of belly rubs—which I was happy to give. She sits politely for treats and happily accepted every one I offered. Those soulful eyes really touched my heart. She deserves so much more than she’s had, and I hope someone sees her photos and decides to welcome her into a warm, loving indoor home where she can finally be part of the family. She’s had more than enough of living outside.

This sweet boy with an exuberant personality is Ripley, a 2yr neutered male Staffordshire terrier mix weighing in at 54 pounds, and at 2 years of age came into the shelter on 3/23 as a stray. I found him to be a tail-wagging, happy-go-lucky boy with a zest for living! He walks OK on leash, but does have a bit of a pull. He did his business in the shelter yard. He was thoroughly delighted with being outside and happy to run around the yard and explore all the interesting smells. His dream is to be adopted or placed with a rescue foster in a home in which he will be allowed to live inside with his people and become an integral part of their family circle. He would love to have a cushy bed, some yummy snacks and nutritious food, exercise, playtime, and he is even willing to learn some commands. Can you offer that to Ripley?

Meet Lewis! He is a 3yr old neutered male American Staffordshire mix that weighs 72lbs. He came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 3/20 as a stray. He is a very handsome boy with his brindle coat. He is also a boy full of energy! He walks strongly on a leash, and can be a bit mouthy at times. Yet once he finds his squeaky toy he is the happiest boy around. When out in the play yard he played with toy nonstop as he romped around from one side to the other. He settles down and will stretch and crawl along the grass enjoying the sunshine on his skin. Tho he does jump on you and will need continued training, he does take treats gently. Walking past the other dogs barking at him he didn’t have a negative reaction, yet we do always ask that if you do have another dog in the home please ask the shelter for a dog test. He would need to have a secure yard to play in, but then allowed back inside where he can have his own dog bed to cuddle and take long naps in. Having plenty of sturdy squeaky toys he would love to have too.
