Story
Meet Cricket! She is a 2 yr old female American Staffordshire Mix that weighs 34lbs. She came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter as a stray on 4/22. Cricket has such a gentle loving yet spunky personality. This adorably sweet girl appears to have lived in a kennel for long periods of time, as her nails are discolored, and feet are a bit flat. At first, she was nervous and fearful of what may happen to her. Once out of her kennel and in the play yard, her true personality came out. She is a happy go lucky girl that hasn`t given up on people. Cricket loves to be petted and loved on. She will roll into your lap for cuddles and give the biggest smile. She takes treats gently, walks well on a leash, and didn`t show any interest in the other dogs barking at her. Cricket would make a great family companion. She deserves to be given all the love and affection, as she will give it all back to you. Can you give her the best life of a secured backyard to play in, stuffed squeaky toys, and living indoors where she can cuddle close to her human companions? Come meet Cricket, you will fall for her, just as I have.

Story
This high-spirited fellow is Chester, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier that weighs 57 lbs and is 2 yrs of age. He arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 4/17. This bright-eyed, tail-wagging boy has unbounded enthusiasm and energy--you might say a real zest for living. Although Chester has not been there nearly as long as many of our dogs, he has decided that shelter life is not for him! He has made his list of what would be his idea of a perfect home (not necessarily in order of importance)—1) He wants to live an inside life (well, ok that IS first on his list. 2) He wants plenty of interaction, playtime, and exercise. 3) He wants a couple of strategically placed soft doggy beds around the house. 4) He wants nutritious and yummy dog food and is especially fond of Pupperoni treats. 5) He wants plenty of TLC and a promise to stay committed to him. In exchange, he swears he will be a good boy, will work hard to learn learn and obey the house rules and is even willing to take obedience classes and he promises to be the best doggie friend you’ve ever had! He is friendly, likes being loved on and petted and walks well on a leash, though in his enthusiasm does pull on the leash. He has the habit of jumping on you a lot which would need to be addressed first off. Because of this jumping, he would not be a good fit for a home with very young kids until this habit has been corrected. Will you please consider assisting Chester out of the shelter?

Story
Baby Girl is a 2-year-old velcro pup with a heart full of love and a spirit that captured the hearts of every shelter staff member she met. A true staff favorite, this sweet girl had everyone rooting for her to be saved—and now she’s healthy & thriving, she’s ready to find her forever home!Affectionate, cuddly, and incredibly trusting of both men and women, Baby Girl is the ultimate velcro pup. She wants nothing more than to be right by your side—your loyal shadow through everything. She’s submissive with other dogs and loves to play, though she should be fed separately due to food guarding around other pups. She’s also cat and kid friendly!Crate trained and fully housebroken, Baby Girl is smart and eager to please—she even learned “sit” in just one day. She’s incredibly food motivated and a great listener, making her a fantastic candidate for continued training. She will, however, need to be crated when unsupervised, as she can be destructive if left to her own devices.Leash walking is coming along nicely, though she’s still very tempted by squirrels and birds and may bolt to chase—ongoing leash training will be important. She also tends to jump on people, sometimes even from behind, when she’s excited, so a home with older children would be the best fit.She loves snuggling with her lamb chop plushie and relaxing to the smooth sounds of Stick Figure reggae!Baby Girl is spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, up-to-date on vaccines, dewormed, and on monthly Simparica Trio for prevention of heartworms, fleas, & ticks. She’s more than ready to pour all her love into the lucky family who brings her home. Could that be you?She is located in north Texas, and can be transported out of state for the right home! Transport and health certificate costs are added to the adoption fee if you adopt from out of state. ##2398315##

Story
Shorty is a 4yr old 90lb American Staffordshire that was surrendered to the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 4/15. He was returned because he was left in the backyard and it wasn’t a good situation for him. Not only is he a handsome dude with his reddish-gold coloring and his hazel eyes, but he’s also a real sweetheart. He’s short, stocky and solidly built. He wants to be an inside dog. His size is deceiving because he’s really just a cuddle bug. His tail wagged constantly. He sits for treats and takes them relatively gently. He’s well behaved, laid-back, friendly, happy, gentle and very sweet. He walks surprisingly well on a leash with just a slight pull. He did his business in the yard. He wagged his tail meeting some of the dogs but really wasn’t interested. He would be like a welcome wagon, when people come inside the home wagging his tail and giving kisses. He wants to be a loving loyal companion.

Story
Victor is a 3 yr-old 57lb black-and-white Staffordshire pit that was brought into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 4/11 as a stray. When he first got out in the yard, he’s spent his time with his nose to the ground. After he investigated the yard, then it was time to hang out with me. He stayed close. When I sat down, he came and put his paws on my lap. He sits for treats and takes them somewhat gently. He’s joyful, friendly, curious, affectionate, and well mannered. He was not particularly interested in meeting other dogs. He walks OK on a leash. Because of his size he would do best in a home with a yard, but since he’s such a love bug he would love love love to hang out with you during family time

Story
I’m Duncan, a 2-3 year old rescue dog and I'm full of personality AND good looks. I’m a bundle of love, always ready to play fetch or go for a walk, but I also enjoy just getting pet a lot. You would never know that I came from an abusive situation, I love making new friends, 2 or 4 legged. I get along well with other dogs, but I really think kids are the best. There is a fat cat in the house, but I know to stay away from him, he told me off good. There are also these rats (aka chihuahuas) that run around the house but I just ignore them. I have been neutered, chipped, and have had all my vaccinations. *My rescuer had to buy me from the mean family I lived with but she had a some pawsome people help her by donating the vet services, food, blankets, and a crate. So when you take me home I will get to keep my crate (if you want) and I still have several months of flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.
