Meet Ivy! She is 2 yr old spayed female American Staffordshire mix that weighs 55lbs. She came in as a stray on 12/29 to the Mesquite Animal Shelter. Ivy is absolutely so sweet, gentle and 150% lovebug! Her tail wags non stop, with a big grin on her face and you just have to give her hugs and kisses! She will cuddle next to you or put her paws in your lap and you will just smile. She walks well on a leash, takes treats gently, and I feel she has been crate trained. She enjoys running through the shelter yard getting her exercise, tho she didn't have much interest in toys. She also told me that she prefers being an inside pup where she can cuddle close to her own family. As we walked through the shelter with other dogs barking, she didn't pay much attention, but we do always ask if there will be another dog in the home to please ask the shelter for a dog test. If you would like to have a smile on your face every day, Ivy is the girl for you. She has so much love to give! Come spend some time with Ivy.

Meet Gabe! He is a 2 yr old neutered male American Staffordshire/Tosa mix that weighs 57lbs. He came in as a stray on 2/9 to the Mesquite Animal Shelter.  He is such a handsome boy and definitely knows how to pose for a picture! Gabe has a very gentle soul. He walks well on a leash and enjoys taking his time walking through the shelter yard. He can be shy at first if around many people he does not know. The more time he spends with you, the more confident he becomes. He takes treats gently, enjoys being petted and may be house trained too. He enjoyed climbing on the play equipment and stood at the top with his head up enjoying all the smells. He enjoys chasing balls but does not return them. He is so ready to find his own loving home with a secured backyard he can enjoy, but then live indoors where he enjoys the company of his human companions. Walking past other dogs barking at him he did not have a response, but we do always ask if you have another dog in the home, to please ask the shelter for a dog test. Meet Johnny, an American Staffordshire Terrier mix picked up by one of our officers along with his brother Jasper on 3/25. Johnny weighs 52 pounds and is about 3 years old. This sweet boy has not quite acclimated to the shelter environment as he is nervous and uneasy. If you look into his eyes, you can almost imagine him saying "what am I doing here in this place?" He walks well on a leash. He knows the sit command, and will do so for treats which he takes politely. He does better outside his kennel than in and seemed to very much enjoy stretching his legs and scouting out all the sights, smells and sounds in the room in which his pictures were taken. We will spend additional time with him, helping him to feel more comfortable at the shelter and learn to trust the nice people who work and volunteer there. Can you please help Johnny out of the shelter and on the way to his forever home?

Meet Jasper, an American Staffordshire terrier mix, picked up by one of our officers along with his sibling, Johnny, and brought to the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 3/25. Jasper weighs 54 pounds and is about 3 years old. The two boys are obviously from the same litter because they look so similar and are the same age and weight. Jasper walks quite nicely on a leash. He knows the sit command, and will do so for treats which he takes gently. He has a chill personality and is friendly, sweet and lovable, as well as affectionate. This was demonstrated when the officer who picked the brothers up came into the room and Jasper made a beeline for her, giving her lots of tail wags, hugs, snuggles and adoring looks! He obviously remembered her. Jasper is timid and nervous and it's obvious he doesn't have a clue as to why he ended up in a city shelter and where is people are. He appears to have lived as an outside dog. He has fur loss and scaly skin on his back. It doesn't appear to be anything more than a good nutritious diet and proper care would resolve.
