Meet Buddy, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter after having been picked up by one of our officers on 3/21. Buddy weighs 53 pounds and is about 2 years old. This precious handsome boy has an enthusiastic happy-go-lucky nature. He is spunky and fun-loving. He chased balls in the yard but did not return them. He ran and played in the yard with much enthusiasm. What a joy to see him out of his kennel thoroughly enjoying the sunshine and with grass under his feet! He does not seem to know any commands. He walks nicely on a leash and appears to be potty trained. He is very fond of our Pupperoni treats and takes them politely. Buddy is a-ok with being petted and loved on. It seems as though his owners have cared well for him. And yet he is another one that we scratch our heads and have no clue as to why they have not come to reclaim.

Meet Hazel! She is a American Pitbull/Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix that came into the shelter on 4/2 as a stray. She weighs 45 pounds, about 2 yrs old and appears housetrained. She thoroughly enjoyed exploring the yard and pretty much covered every square inch. She has an interesting and attractive coat. Hazel is well mannered, calm, gentle and friendly. She had no problems with me giving her loving attention and petting. She loves treats and took them quite nicely. She does not seem to know any commands. This precious girl would undoubtedly make someone a loving and devoted companion. Her dream forever home would include a loving family who would give her daily exercise and enrichment as well as a cushy, comfy, doggy bed and some yummy snacks. Oh and last but not least, an inside life so she can socialize and bond with her people.

This sweet girl was surrendered through no fault of her own. Her family had too many animals so they couldn’t properly take care of her. This is your lucky day because she’s a Diamond in the Ruff! Bella is a two year-old 69 pound American terrier pit/ Staffordshire pit that weighs 69 pounds and was surrendered to the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 2/25. If you’ve heard the expression, `To know her is to love her,” you will understand what that means when you meet this sweet, well-behaved brindle beauty. She’s very calm and strolled casually around the yard investigating. I’m sure once she’s in a loving home she will be somewhat more active, but she appears to have a laid-back personality. She has recently had at least one litter. She didn’t appear to know her name, but does come to you when you call her. She sits for treats and takes them gently. She’s curious, friendly, and wants to please. She walks okay on a leash. She did her business in the yard. She was not interested in meeting other dogs. However, she is interested in meeting you! She is too big for an apartment. She told me that her wish would be for a loving family that would want to share their house with her. She would love to snuggle next to them on the couch or in her bed at their feet. PS She also said it would be great if she had a yard to stretch her legs in but would want to come right back in.
