Story
Cane is a 100% good boy! He is just under a year old and weighs 85 lbs and loves to play. He is searching for a best dog friend and a yard of his very own to hang out with his family! He is fully crate and potty trained, he even knows how to use a doggy door. He's good with other dogs and does well with kids. Since he's still young he gets excited for new people and things and LOVES playing! He lives in a house with cats and although sometimes likes to bark at them he's respectful of their place in the home. Due to this size and young dog energy Cane would do best in a house with children over the age of 6. He does require a yard to run and play and therefore won't be a great dog for an apartment. He would love a doggy companion to run and snuggle with and loves the other dog in his foster home. You have to see Cane to fully appreciate his beautiful brindle coat. We are a RESCUE GROUP, not a shelter, and all of our animals are in foster homes. To start the adoption process, email us at adoptions@earstexas.org requesting an application. Submitting an application does not commit you in any way, but helps us make the best match between people and our available dogs. Your current or past dogs must be inside dogs who have been spayed/neutered and are on heartworm prevention. All of the dogs in our program are inside dogs and are completely vetted including all vaccinations, spayed/neutered, free of internal parasites, microchipped, heartworm negative and on prevention before adoption. Our adoption process includes an application, check of vet records or personal references, interview, neutral site meet & greet with the dog and your family, and a home visit.

Story
What a guy Argos is! He's three years young, and his medium energy level makes him an excellent companion for anyone who likes to run, walk, jog, hike, and enjoy time together. He's fabulous with other dogs, cats, even older kiddos. He would be perfect for fun outdoors, or just chillen' on the couch. He is pretty much up for anything! Snuggling ranks high on Argos' list of ways to spend time. If you also have a toy, he will love you - and the toy. Treats can be used to motivate him to learn and develop even more skills. When he's not getting all the love and attention he needs, he'll hang out in his crate to pass the time. Check out that smile - it's a perfect picture of who this boy is. He's a bit of a goofball, which makes him adorable to boot. He's up for a game of fetch, or just hanging out by your side. Picture yourself and Argos playing ball together - say the word and he'll be ready to go. All Dallas Pets Alive adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon adoption. The standard minimum donation for dogs over six months to seven years is $200, puppies under six months is $250, dogs eight years and over are $100 unless specified otherwise. Story
(Dallas, Texas - Foster/Adopter desperately needed) King truly needs a hero, and we know that people with generous and kind hearts are out there. King is a playful guy, about 4.5 ~5 y & 40-45 lbs, so loving and content with whatever affection you'd give him. (a couple of videos in the Comment) King was abandoned and left alone in a small backyard run/kennel for 4 years exposed to all weather elements and confined in isolation and loneliness. We were so heartbroken seeing him carrying his bowl panting alone in the heat and dirt last summer, so Angie rescued him. Yet, without a foster, King's been living in a crate at a boarding facility for a year, and we desperately want him to have a chance to learn and enjoy living in a home! King's had several training sessions at the boarding facility, learned some basic commands and to trust humans, and is especially smitten by ladies. King's now a happy guy and loves loves the attention (& treats, of course). King enjoys a quiet life with NO other animal, being with humans, and feeling the breeze and sunlight on his face. King's content with carrying and chewing his toys by himself without the bother of the world. We really believe that a soul who suffered years of neglect and desolation deserves an understanding person/family to love him, and King'd give absolute devotion in return. King needs to be the only dog, is fixed, crate and house trained, and shots up to date. Please let us know if your home has a warm spot for King (for foster, Angie's Friends will provide everything that King needs).  July 26, 2024, 12:03 am

Story
Quinn loves her person to no end. She’s a GREAT companion...and we mean AMAZING. Playing with her is an amazing experience! She retrieves, plays tug and keep-away. She’s great on leash. Quinn's foster home has other dogs, but she doesn't seek the other dogs out for play. She is really just all about her person/people, so would be a great only dog. She’s beautiful, loving and very cuddly. She greets every morning with a big hug! She is not a barker. She prefers a couch to a kennel and enjoys a car ride. Quinn is a consistent 48lbs. She’s a pretty calm girl with med/low energy except when excited about a leash or a toy. She can be over enthusiastic about greeting new people, but we can tell you more about how to do that properly. She's a smart girl, so best suited for someone smarter than her (has dog savvy or experience). Quinn was nearly euthanized at the shelter and we are SO glad we saved her. We are in LOVE with Quinn. She will make someone very happy. She'd be great with a person, a couple or family with older kids - just as long as it's the right fit! Story
Meet Gabe! He is a 2 yr old neutered male American Staffordshire/Tosa mix that weighs 57lbs. He came in as a stray on 2/9 to the Mesquite Animal Shelter.  He is such a handsome boy and definitely knows how to pose for a picture! Gabe has a very gentle soul. He walks well on a leash and enjoys taking his time walking through the shelter yard. He can be shy at first if around many people he does not know. The more time he spends with you, the more confident he becomes. He takes treats gently, enjoys being petted and may be house trained too. He enjoyed climbing on the play equipment and stood at the top with his head up enjoying all the smells. He enjoys chasing balls but does not return them. He is so ready to find his own loving home with a secured backyard he can enjoy, but then live indoors where he enjoys the company of his human companions. Walking past other dogs barking at him he did not have a response, but we do always ask if you have another dog in the home, to please ask the shelter for a dog test. Please help by networking him or send a rescue tag to rescues@cityofmesquite.comwith the subject line TAG 55249467. Any further questions, please email or call972.216.6283.

Story
Let me introduce you to Jasper, an American Staffordshire mix picked up by one of our officers along with his brother Johnny on 3/25 and brought to the Mesquite Animal Shelter. Jasper weighs 54 pounds, is about 3 years old and is neutered. His brother has been adopted and Jasper has now been here for 3 1/2 months. He wonders why his brother was adopted and he wasn't. They are almost identical in looks and personality. He's still holding out hope that that special person will come and see what an amazing boy he is and get him out of the shelter. He does well on a leash, knows the sit command, is lively, active, playful, and loves squeaky toys. He does jump on you and manners training would certainly be in order. It seems obvious that Jasper lived outdoors because in one of these pictures you can see the scaly skin and hair loss on his back. During his time at the shelter, he has been given nutritious food, and has been treated for the hair loss. And he looks so much better! Jasper is another dog that does not show well in his kennel with barking and jumping and it just gives people the wrong impression. Once outside the kennel, he calms down. I had him in a room recently and the officer that picked the brothers up came in. He ran over to her and gave her hugs and kisses! Can you please help Jasper find that special home? He absolutely positively does not want to live outside again but rather wants to live inside and be an important part of his family's life.

Story
Meet Sawyer, an American Staffordshire mix that was picked up by one of our officers and brought to the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 5/24. Sawyer weighs 54 pounds and is approx 1 1/2 years old. He has a chill personality, is calm and gentle. He is cautious and uneasy in the shelter environment. He's timid and nervous and is a work in progress. We will continue to work with him to help him feel more confident, comfortable and trusting. He seems to want to be friends as he is a-ok with his soft smooth fur being petted and someone sitting close and interacting with him. He very much enjoyed being in the yard and rolling around in the soft grass. However, he was more than ready to go back inside perhaps indicating he has lived as an indoor dog and that is his preference. We think all of our dogs would live their best life being inside with their people. He did his business as soon as he entered the yard. Sawyer walks well on a leash. He quite enjoys treats and takes them nicely. Will you assist Sawyer in having his stay at the shelter be a brief one?

Story
This sweet girl has gotten the seal of approval from one of our staff members. When I asked about Franny he said," She's a really great dog!" Franny is a one-year-old 60 pound, brindle and brown and white terrier pittie Staffordshire that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 7/1 as a stray. I agree with a staff member that she is a wonderful girl. She's a friendly, tailwagging girl. She's well behaved and does not jump on you. She sits on command but not for treats or at least not for the ones I had. She wasn't interested in them. She investigated the yard and then when I brought her in she investigated the laundry room indicating she's very curious an alert. She's outgoing and the right mix of being playful and calm. She stays close seeking affection. When I sat down she came to me and seem to enjoy being petted and having her ears scratched. She sniffed other dogs but seemed to be indifferent to them. She did her business out in the yard and it appeared that she had held it for a long time. She does have a very strong pull on the leash. She knows where she wants to go. She could be trained not to do this, but you need to keep in mind that she's strong. You can see she's got a stocky solid build. She told me she wants to be an inside dog mostly and be able to curl up next to her new owners during family time.

These pups are in Dallas, Texas too!

Story
Meet sweet Lila! She is about 6 months old and a mixed breed, brindle with white. We have had her in our family for about two weeks, she was a stray found by Dallas Animal Services. Lila is such a sweet pup. She gets along with other dogs as she was in a home with two other dogs and kids before we got her and currently lives with teenagers. She does bark and whine at other animals when on a leash or when seeing other animals out of the window. But she doesnâ&#194&#128&#194&#153t bark at other humans while walking on her leash or even when someone knocks on the door. Lila will cuddle up with you when tired and play with you when you are ready to play. She is still learning not to puppy bite while playing though. She has learned that â&#194&#128&#194&#156gentleâ&#194&#128&#194&#157 means donâ&#194&#128&#194&#153t bite hard. An ideal home for Lila would be one with another dog friend and a yard to lay out in. She is crate-trained and housebroken and knows the commands sit/down/stay/come. She sits and waits for her food when she knows it is coming and knows that most likely when we say â&#194&#128&#194&#156good girlâ&#194&#128&#194&#157 it means she is getting a treat. She is a quick learner and I know will get caught up on all the manners when trained! This sweet girl is deserving of the perfect furever home. Could it be with you? Story
Meet Chino! At two years old he's already a gentleman, getting along with kids and large dogs, though he is still finding his confidence (as many young men) and prefers a slow introduction. Once he's made friends, though? It's off to the races! He can play for hours with his canine buddies. With his current human care-giver he doesn't play quite so much, but is still very interested in being a companion (enjoying lounging and napping) and has even been a nurse-maid! Who doesn't want someone to take care of them when they're sick? He's social when on outings to the local patio-bar or ice cream spot, getting lots of attention from admirers. He's a great size to take camping, but will need some more coaching to be a running buddy as he only goes for short runs at the moment. Chino would love to show you how fast he is! All Dallas Pets Alive adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon adoption.
