Story
Our sweet Harris was picked up as a stray by animal control in one of the surrounding counties.  He had a raging ear infection to the point that the exudate was running out of his ear and down his chest.  Consequently, he is deaf in that ear.  It is thought that he can hear in the other ear. He also has advanced heart worm disease.  He has been  treated for the heart worms and has been treated for the ear infection and his ears are fine now.  Sugar is a good name for him because he is sweet as sugar.  He gets along with other dogs and is really good with his foster kids who are older.  We don't think that he would be good with cats.  He loves to snuggle on the sofa and watch TV with his foster family and also loves car rides.  He is great in the kennel and loves Toys he can shred but also likes bones that are long lasting.   He has not been neutered yet but is scheduled for May after he has completed his heart worm treatment.  The ideal family for out boy is one that is loving, patient, and calm.  You couldn't get a better companion and one that would love to learn new tricks.  He rides well in the car and is waiting for his family.  He will be ready to go home with that family in May 2024 but we are accepting applications now.  Get your applications in early so you don't miss out on this special boy.  Call 757-472-1583 or rainbowanimalrescueva@gmail.com if you are interested in adopting this little cuddle bug.April 25, 2024, 2:30 pm

Story
Pinky is currently in foster and doing great! Her foster`s report she is house trained, crate trained, does well with the cat in the home and loves belly rubs. Here`s what else they have to say`I think one of my favorite things that Pinky does is smile when I get home from work, afterI`ve been gone all day (my boyfriend was home, or got home much earlier then I) and shegets super excited and starts smiling at me. I also love how I am never lonely at home. Shelikes to follow me literally everywhere, whether that`s cleaning, watching tv, or studying, sheis very curious with everything. Also if you stop giving her bellyrubs she will lay on her backand wiggle side to side until she gets more. She loves showing off her toys as well.`

Story
Dottie is a great dog. She needs more than we can give her and I want to find a home with a fenced yard where she is safe. She’s not good with other dogs. She has been in the past so maybe with some training she would be ok. She loves to play and snuggle with pillows and blankets! She loves to go on walks and hikes also. Great dog I just wish we had what she needed. Being a pit mix I want to regime her responsibly. She’s 7 years young and would love a family or a single person as companions. Thank you for considering her as a pet!

Story
Spring is a time for flowers to bloom, and that includes our very own Petunia! Petunia is a very sweet Boxer mix, who is a little undersocialized but ultimately LOVES people! She's a favorite around the kennel and often goes out on the town for our Visiting Paws and Beach Buddies programs. She is a perfect girl while out on trips, does well on a leash, and is always up for her next car ride adventure. Petunia is looking to join a family with lots of dog experience who can help her be the best version of herself. She'll be thrilled if her family is at home most of the time or is able to take her along wherever they go! She shared her previous home with another dog, but the two did not get along. Because of this, we are recommending she be the only canine in the home. Likewise, Petunia would do best with older children (12+) because she can be particular about her food and her things. If you have any questions about Petunia, please see a kennel technician.

Story
Our pets are physically located and fostered in NC until adopted. Once adopted we can transport to you or meet 1/2 way for the cost of our gas. We are 5 1/2 hrs west of Virginia Beach. Our pets are physically located and fostered in NC until adopted. Once adopted we can transport to you. We have a cost effective transporter that has stops in most north eastern states. Transport runs every 2 weeks. Please note! Don't just apply just because this dog has a cheap adopt fee. You must prove you can afford to adopt regardless! I find that most of the folks who apply for my reduced fee dogs back out when they realize they are still responsible for the transport fee. If this applies to you please don't waste our time! To the VA Beach area we can transport to your location for $200 or we can do halfway for $100. This will cover just my gas with today's high gas prices. You are welcome to drive to us in Mt.Airy, NC to pick up! Scarlett was born 2-1-21. Her mom was a german shepherd golden mix. We are not positive what dad was. Scarlett is active and very loving. She is good with people and ok with other dogs her size. She is too playful for small dogs. She needs a large dog only home. She is not good with cats. She needs an active home with room to run. She would not do well in a cramped up apartment with no exercise. She is house trained and crate trained, This baby will go home spayed and current on vaccinations, deworming, flea preventives, started on heartworm prevention and microchipped. This pup will receive a health certificate issued by our vet prior to going home. The adopter will get all his health records with the adoption. We require a prescreen application to apply. You can get that on our main website at www.saveamuttkennel.net

Story
Meet Meraki! Meraki is such a special lady! She is super quiet, very timid at first but blossoms when she has a doggie friend to hang and play with. We are unsure about cats because she has never met one! Meraki loves her toys, belly rubs and just being near her human and dog friends. Meraki lived her prior life in a pen with not much human contact, only dogs so she will require patience and understanding BUT she is so worth it! If you would like to meet Meraki, please go to our website at k9newlife.org and fill out our online adoption application! * all of our dogs are in individual foster homes so an appointment must be made for a meet and greet
