Story
Jewel is One Gem of an Adventure Companion! Meet magnificent Jewel, a gorgeous 3 year old white heeler mix eager for fun! This active girl loves going on walks and making new furry friends along the way. Though she looks robust, Jewel enjoys keeping busy and will thrive in an equally energetic home. After playtime, this sweet girl is quite the cuddle bug, content to lazily chew on a toy or soak up some sunshine while resting. Jewel spent most of her recent life as a solo dog and will need some socialization to newcomers both human and animal. But she warms up quickly with proper introductions. Outgoing Jewel rides nicely in the car and makes an excellent alert companion, letting her people know whenever someone is at the door. All she wants is an active family to call her own that gives her plenty of devotion, playtime, and adventure together. Jewel will turn 3 in March - what better present than finding her happy furever home at last! If you’re seeking a loyal dog with just as much tenacious spirit as snuggly affection to give, look no further than darling Jewel! If you are interested in integrating Jewels into your family please apply at https://www.fromforgottentoforever.com/adoptionapplication/

Story
Meet Jessie, the gentle female American Blue Heeler with a heart of gold. Initially wary of humans, Jessie cautiously accepts pets and scratches once she feels comfortable, displaying her trust in subtle ways. Unlike most dogs, she isn't particularly food motivated but finds solace in the company of other canines, especially during outdoor play sessions. Jessie will require a home with another confident dog to help her feel comfortable and adjust to her new life. With a calm and chill energy, she exudes a sense of tranquility that is rare to find. Jessie is currently learning to walk on a leash, taking slow and steady steps towards mastering this skill. In need of a patient and understanding family, Jessie seeks a forever home where she can continue to decompress and blossom into the dog she was always meant to be. Eagerly awaiting adoption at National Mill Dog Rescue, Jessie dreams of finding a loving family who will embrace her for who she is and provide the patience and support she needs to thrive.- - - - - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, many of these dogs come around with patience and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience. Story
This handsome boy is Woody (Woodrow). Woody is an almost 5 yr old herding dog mix (we actually have his DNA results!) While he doesn’t always give the best first impression, he has a super goofy personality once he gets to know you. While it also takes time to earn his trust, once you do he is super loyal and will want to follow you everywhere. Woody has been working on training to help his confidence and reactivity around new people and has proven a very quick learner. He has learned place and sit, and doing well with leash training. Woody prefers women over men and can be somewhat possessive, especially over certain toys. Since his confidence is improving, he could do well in a no dog home or with 1 or 2 other dogs. (His best friend in his foster home is Jolene- they would love to be adopted together, as long as they were the only dogs in the home!) Any more dogs in the home and he seems to get stressed and it negatively impacts his behavior. Due to his timid nature, he should not be in a home with young children. If you are looking for a goofy, energetic partner and are willing to put in a little extra effort, Woody will be the most loyal companion you could ask for! Story
This litter was rescued from a shelter in New Mexico. Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free Pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with Pet First pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639 ##2020883##

Story
HIGHLIGHTS:Needs patient, experienced adoptersNeeds an active homeCan go home with another dog or alonePrefers to go to a home with a fenced-in yard Livy is a stunning 2-year-old Australian Shepherd weighing 30 pounds. Livy is a wonderful dog who LOVES being around her humans. She is affectionate and playful. If given the choice, she would play fetch for hours! We really think she missed her calling as a ball fetcher for Major League Baseball. She also loves treats but can be picky about sharing them. She is insecure about high value resources like bones or especially tasty food being taken from her, but the NMDR behavior team will talk you through what to do to manage this behavior and help her feel more secure.Livy is extremely intelligent and athletic. She would do best in an active home where she can join you on your outdoor adventures! She walks wonderfully on leash and really enjoys being outside. She'd also thrive in a home with a fenced yard where she can get her daily fix of fetch and fresh air. She would benefit from plenty of mental stimulation like puzzle toys, agility training, or frozen kongs to challenge that brilliant brain of hers. We like to say that she needs a job because she is so intelligent, focused, and determined. Livy tends to feel more comfortable around women, but does warm up fairly quickly to men if they bribe her with snacks. Once she has accepted you into her circle, Livy wiggles her butt with joy at the sight of you and wants to be scratched and cuddled. She could do well as the only dog in a home or would be happy to gain some canine siblings, especially if they're energetic and will play with her! Due to her insecurities around high value resources, Livy will need any children in the home to be old enough to respect her boundaries (14+).Livy is the sweetest girl and has so much potential just waiting to be unlocked in a loving, understanding home. If you would like to meet Livy, please apply at NMDR.org. We think you will fall in love like we have!- - - - - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take a little extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, most of these dogs come around rather quickly and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience. Story
Razzy is a gorgeous 7-year-old red and white Miniature Australian Shepard. She weighs 26 pounds. She is very sweet with gorgeous soulful eyes. Razzy is benefiting from one of our wonderful foster homes and is thriving living there. Razzy loves her morning walks and being outside in the dog park with other dogs. When not outside Razzy can be a couch potato, so this girl can do it all, be your hiking buddy or couch buddy.Though she was quite fearful when arriving at NMDR she has made tremendous progress. She now currently enjoys belly rubs from people she knows and even pets from some new friends on the morning walk on the highline canal trail. She warms up to men very quickly. She walks beautifully on a leash and has become accustomed to the scheduled stops on her walk for treats. She is a vey smart girl and know the commands for wait, come and learning sit. Razzy enjoys her dog friends but also does fine when left at her foster home by herself. Razzy has been living in an apartment for more than 3 ½ months without a yard but looks to the dog park and walks a few times a day. Everyday Razzy learns to be more comfortable with people and is now starting to snuggle on the sofa against her foster mom for pets. She continues to progress everyday, and it is wonderful to watch.Razzy needs adults and any children must be over 13. She is not a fan of loud children. We hope you are the right person or family for this precious girl. If you agree, please apply to meet her at NMDR.org.

Story
#### Look at this face and those eyes! She could not be more beautiful! Tipping the scales at 26 pounds, Cleo is a 2 year old Miniature Australian Shepherd Mix. She is a playful girl. She loves playing with other dogs unless a dog is too rough a player for her tastes. She prefers dogs who are her size or smaller and not too wild. Cleo likes to be close to her dog friends. They give her a sense of safety. She prefers smaller play groups with fewer humans. She is shy and skittish and new noises are scary. She will need some support with sounds we take for granted in a home: tv, washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, etc. She must have an adult only home as well. She is a flight risk so her new people will need to have a securely fenced yard. We will give you good information on how to keep her safely in your home. She must have a more confident dog sibling who is her size or smaller and not too exuberant in play. Cleo and her sibling need a securely fenced yard with at least a 6 foot high fence.Cleo is getting used to familiar people. She can be a total wiggle butt when she is feeling safe. She is gaining more confidence daily and is now slowly approaching people for treats. Once she is there, she will eat them from their hands. While she is easy to catch, she is very squirmy when carried. Cleo needs a patient and calm household who will allow her to settle in at her own pace. She is very cautious but she is growing and we are hopeful that will continue at her new home. If you would like to meet this precious girl, please apply at NMDR.org.- - - - - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization.
