Meet Stormie 💕 This sweet girl is approximately one year old and google seems to think she may be a flat-coated retriever / wire-haired pointer mix…all we know is she’s 59 pounds of happiness wrapped up in a gorgeous coat and topped off with a beautiful smile. If you stop by the shelter, you’ll notice Stormie’s kennel has a blanket curtain because she gets overly excited when people and other dogs pass by - we are trying to give Stormie some ‘refuge in the storm’ that living with dozens of other dogs can sometimes seem to be for our residents. Please don’t let that curtain deter you from stopping by and meeting this amazing girl. Stormie is an excellent loose-leash walker (harness preferred) and prefers to walk near her human friends, she loves to play (she’ll chase a ball and then entertain herself batting it around), and she really enjoys getting pets and love and will sit nicely (and very patiently) for a treat. Come on by the shelter, peek behind the curtain, and ask to meet Stormie on calmer ground in an acquaintance room. 🩷🩷🩷

Meet Leona! Leona is a 5 year old cattle dog/pitbull mix. Leona needs a home with no cats or small animals and no small children. She is still very much a puppy and loves to play. She loves people and loves to give kisses. She would do best in a fenced in yard. If you would like to make Leona a part of your family, fill out an application at www.barktownrescue.org  LEONA'S ADOPTION FEE IS $170   *Due to Covid 19 restrictions some of our new intakes vet scheduling has been delayed. We will still go ahead and schedule your meet and greet even if all the vetting needed has not been completed. Once vetting is complete the approved adopter will be able to take their dog/cat home to their forever home.The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Meet Judge! Judge is a 5 year old Heeler/Pitbull mix (our best guess) Judge wants a job and aims to please, so he needs a firm handler to do training with him. He loves to be with people and walks pretty well on a leash. He does not do well with cats and does okay with dogs, but does seem to be the alpha dog, so slow introductions are a must.
