Story
Are you looking for a loving Velcro dog? Bluey might be the perfect fit for you. She is a 2½-year-old Blue Heeler that I adopted from an animal shelter, where she had only been for 5 days before I brought her home. Bluey is incredibly energetic, loyal, and affectionate. She loves being close to her person and will happily follow you around all day. She is also smart and knows basic commands like sit and lay down, and she does a great job letting you know when she needs to go outside to potty. Because she is a cattle dog, Bluey would thrive best in a home with farmland or plenty of open space where she can run and get the exercise she needs. She has so much love to give, and I want her next home to be one where she will be just as loved—if not more. If you’re looking for a devoted, active companion, Bluey could be your perfect match. ❤️

Story
Meet Leona! Leona is a 7 year old cattle dog/pitbull mix. Leona needs a home with no cats or small animals and no small children. She is still very much a puppy and loves to play. She loves people and loves to give kisses. She would do best in a fenced in yard. If you would like to make Leona a part of your family, fill out an application at www.barktownrescue.org  LEONA'S ADOPTION FEE IS $170  The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Portions of your adoption fee also help care for the sick and injured animals that we take in.  Thank you for supporting us and considering a rescue dog!    May 16, 2026, 4:51 pm

Story
Poppy found herself in a rural county shelter along with Daisy (our new mama dog,) an we think they might be related. Two brace girls who stuck together through it all. Now that Daisy's busy with her puppies, it's Poppy's turn to shine! At just about 1 year old, she's full of life and ready for her next chapter.  Poppy is the kind of dog who will belly crawl right into your heart-gentle, affectionate, hikes, or just explore the world with her people.  She's ready to trade shelter walls for sunshine, trails and love.  If you're looking for a loyal companion with a heart as big as her smile, come meet Poppy!   www.barktownrescue.org/adopt  POPPY'S ADOPTION FEE IS $200  The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Story
Jasmine is a beautiful mix of American Staffordshire Terrier/Cattle Dog/Golden Retriever and 100% built for adventure. She was born on March 21st, 2026 and is ready to find her forever home!  The gal is the canine equivalent of a hiking buddy, a personal trainer and a golden-hearted best friend all rolled into one. She is smart, athletic, eager to learn, and happiest when her body and brain is busy! She will thrive with an active family committed to exercise, structure and training. Experience is preferred- this kiddo is brilliant, but she is not a 'starter dog.'  BONUS: Jasmine comes with FREE training through Rosie Dane Dog Training once she is old enough, so you'll have support from day 1.  If you're ready for muddy paws, big adventures, and a dog that will love you with her whole heart, Jasmine is waiting!  JASMINE'S ADOPTION FEE IS $200 (which covers most of the medical costs.)The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs.
