Story
Meet Leona! Leona is a 5 year old cattle dog/pitbull mix. Leona needs a home with no cats or small animals and no small children. She is still very much a puppy and loves to play. She loves people and loves to give kisses. She would do best in a fenced in yard. If you would like to make Leona a part of your family, fill out an application at www.barktownrescue.org  LEONA'S ADOPTION FEE IS $170   *Due to Covid 19 restrictions some of our new intakes vet scheduling has been delayed. We will still go ahead and schedule your meet and greet even if all the vetting needed has not been completed. Once vetting is complete the approved adopter will be able to take their dog/cat home to their forever home. The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Portions of your adoption fee also help care for the sick and injured animals that we take in.  Thank you for supporting us and considering a rescue dog!    September 25, 2023, 8:48 pm

Story
MEEKO IS FINALLY READY FOR HIS FOREVER HOME! Check out his transformation over the last few months!  Meet Meeko! This guy had a rough puppyhood. He had to deal with mange, a nasty parasite, and a car accident. But he’s not just tough, this sweet boy is a loving little rascal, an excellent cuddler and will sigh laying next to you if you aren’t giving him the proper amount of attention. He loves fetch and give hugs but most of all he wants to be beside you. He is neutered, house trained, crate trained, and ready to find his home. Meeko's DNA came back as Australian Cattle Dog mix! My friends here at the shelter say I'm an Australian Cattle Dog mix, and I currently weigh 28 pounds. Give me guidance so I can become a well-behaved social adult! Come meet me today and be prepared to make a best friend for life!I came to the Kentucky Humane Society from another shelter. The staff are still learning all about me. I miss being in a home and have a lot of love to give.
