Story
Poppy found herself in a rural county shelter along with Daisy (our new mama dog,) an we think they might be related. Two brace girls who stuck together through it all. Now that Daisy's busy with her puppies, it's Poppy's turn to shine! At just about 1 year old, she's full of life and ready for her next chapter.  Poppy is the kind of dog who will belly crawl right into your heart-gentle, affectionate, hikes, or just explore the world with her people.  She's ready to trade shelter walls for sunshine, trails and love.  If you're looking for a loyal companion with a heart as big as her smile, come meet Poppy!   www.barktownrescue.org/adopt  POPPY'S ADOPTION FEE IS $200  The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Portions of your adoption fee also help care for the sick and injured animals that we take in.  Thank you for supporting us and considering a rescue dog!    July 12, 2026, 7:52 pm

Story
Daisy is about 3 years old, and she has spent most of her life being a mom — pregnant, nursing, caring, giving everything she had to her babies. She’s raised 2 litters with the gentlest heart, and now every one of her puppies has been adopted. It’s finally Daisy's turn. She is the sweetest kind of velcro dog — a stageâ€֯ clinger in the most lovable way. She wants to be right by your side, your shadow, your cuddle buddy, your loyal little heartbeat that follows you from room to room. She does well with most dogs, but she appreciates slow, proper introductions. Once she feels safe, she bonds deeply and loves even deeper. And she’s not doing this journey alone — her older daughter Poppy is waiting for her own home too, cheering Daisy on as she finally gets to step into the spotlight. Daisy has given so much. Now she deserves a family who will give back to her. Story
Meet Judge! Judge is a 5 year old Heeler/Pitbull mix (our best guess) Judge wants a job and aims to please, so he needs a firm handler to do training with him. He loves to be with people and walks pretty well on a leash. He does not do well with cats and does okay with dogs, but does seem to be the alpha dog, so slow introductions are a must. Judge also would need a tall panel fence as he can be an escape artist.  If you want to give Judge a forever home, fill out an application at www.barktownrescue.org    JUDGES ADOPTION FEE IS $170The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Story
BonBon is a five year old, male, Blue Heeler mix. We have had him since he was a young pup, but with a toddler and another child on the way we just don’t have the time or energy to give him the life he deserves. He would do best in a home with a large yard and preferably another dog so he can play and burn off his energy. Like most Heelers, he tends to get anxious when he hasn’t gotten enough physical activity. He’s healthy, house trained, crate trained, neutered, good with dogs and children, but terrified of cats.

Story
He is the sweetest, funniest and most loving dog i’ve ever had. It breaks our hearts to give him up, if not for his needs as far as attention and our infant son taking up our time we would not be giving him away. He needs to be able to get his energy out and play all day. If you are a couple with no kids or you have older/toddler age kids and a yard or are outside often he will be perfect for you. He sheds a fair amount so be advised of that. Otherwise he is perfect, I hope that he goes to kind people.
