AKIRA gets lots of praise from her new foster. They say besides her beautiful looks, she's got a winning personality and loves others dogs and cats, and to play as well as a good snuggle. She's estimated young at 1-2 and fully vetted. She looks to be some kind of Corgi cattle dog type mix, and is only 36 lbs, so a perfect lapful! She can be on the shyer side and would benefit from another playful dog in the home for confidence. 👉 Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). If the dog is older than 6 months and not yet altered, we will schedule ASAP (normally within 30 days) at our clinic . We also provide as an incentive a $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes. Adoption also includes lifetime support of the rescue. 💜 Please click PURPLE BUTTON above to apply or go to www.secondhanddogrescue.com/apply ! ✍ APPLICATION PROCESSING: We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely volunteer foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available. 📌IMPORTANT NOTES: ** Housetraining with rescues is sometimes a work in progress and even if a dog is 100% in a foster's home, it should be expected there will be an adjustment period as a dog adapts to a new environment. This is even more true if the dog has not by chance had their altering appointment at time of adoption. ** Also, we highly recommend some form of 2-week shutdown and decompression for dogs going to a new home for best results. --> Lastly, breed guesses in rescue are just that (GUESSES!!) 99.9% of the time. We do not do DNA testing and our breed guesses are based on appearance and sometimes other traits, but we know the dog breed guessing game is a fool's errand even for those with LOTS of experience. 🗺 ADOPTION AREA: several hour radius of Rochester, NY (Canada within 3 hours IS allowed, except that young puppies need to be old enough to have gotten their rabies vaccination to cross the border - usually around 16 weeks)

Story
Meet MUMBLES! Mumbles is a 3 year old cattle dog mix. He is such a affectionate pup but does require an owner who understands the needs of his active breed (heeler/cattle dog). Mumbles is still very much a puppy and is VERY active, he can jump high so we do require applicants to always have him on a lead unless he's inside a 6' or higher fenced in yard. Mumbles is NOT good with other animals and needs to be the only animal in the home. He IS great with humans, though, including kids. Mumbles LOVES his humans, loves to play and would love a home to cuddle up by your side after a nice run in the yard. He does great with kids, responds to recall, and listens to commands. Mumbles is very obedient and eager to please his humans. 🤪He is not a great dog to take neighborhood walks with - we do have a professional dog walker who does it successfully, but if Mumbles sees another dog, he WILL lunge towards them. Luckily he's not very big (~45 lbs) so he's manageable for most people. If someone were vigilant, neighborhood walks may be okay with head on a swivel or a quiet neighborhood, but Mums is super reactive to other dogs. He'd love best to have a big fenced in yard with a 7' fence - but barring that, a vigilant walker in a quieter neighborhood (no apartment complexes with shared courtyard area, for example) could work. Mumbles' adoption fee is sponsored in part by a fan of his who wasn't able to adopt because of other dogs, for the right home. This dog is part of a partner rescue in NY, and is available to a larger distance from us than normal - within a few hour distance from Rochester, NY, OR between Rochester and NYC area and closer to the NY tri-state area. Story
Hi my name is Vanilla! Like a vanilla latte, a vanilla cookie, a vanilla soda, or vanilla ice cream! All of these are great names for me, because I'm also a sweet little treat who will add a pop of sunshine to your day! I'm a goofy little girl with some quirks, I love to sit and stare at my foster mom and "chirp" at her until she gives me pets! I also love to remind her that she's not petting me enough by trying to pet her! I love to get my belly scratched and snuggle up with a great blanket. Don't worry if you don't know exactly where the blankets should go, I'll rearrange them to my liking! Sometimes, I even like to burrow into them for a nap or pile them all up and make myself a blanket throne in a sun spot. My life wasn't always so sweet, a rescue lady found me sitting in a ditch out in the country. My pelvis was broken and x rays showed that I have some bbs in my hind quarters too! My pelvis is still healing, so I can't go on long hikes or runs. That's fine though, because you can grab a latte, and a blanket and we can SNUGGLE UP. I immediately brought out my sweet side and was happy to sit in her car and start my journey to forever! All of my teeth were broken as well, so I only kept my top canines and my molars, but that doesn't slow me down AT ALL. I love snackies, I just drool a little extra and my tongue is a little floppier than you might expect. I'm 35 pounds of SWEET SNUGGLE BUG and I'm looking for my forever family (and couch). I get along with the other dogs in my foster house but I don't really like to be crowded. I have an 85 pound foster brother who tries to play with me, I'm still warming up to him and don't like it when he plays too rough but he listens well when I set my boundaries. No cats please! I like to chase them too much. Foster Notes: Vanilla is a great little girl who gets along really well with my senior dogs, she is about 35 pounds and 2 years old. She likes to hang out in the crates sometimes but I do not crate her at night or when I'm not home. In new houses she'll tend to mark, but she stops after one or two days and hasn't had any accidents since. ADOPT VANILLA!!! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $450 (includes transport to your area)

Story
This was from one of her recent posts. You can edit and remove things if you need too 😊Are you tired of going to bathroom alone? Need an exercise buddy? Searching for a protector to save you from brooms, vacuums and loud machines? Looking to add a little excitement to your life maybe? Well, look no further! Vera is ready to find her forever home, but has a few requests…- Must provide copious amounts of belly rubs.- Allow her to become your second shadow.- Must play with her and alllllll the toys!- No other doggies, please!- Needs a couch and endless snuggles.- Snacks, She likes snacksNow for the important details: Vera prefers to be the queen of her castle and requires a home with no other dogs, please. She has not been tested with Cats and we are unsure of her background as she was found abandoned. Vera is potty and crate trained. She also does very well out of the crate when left alone. She is looking for a home with a fenced in yard and no kids due to her herding instincts. She will come with her big Jolly Ball which she absolutely LOVES and will play with it for hours outside if you let her.Another important note: Vera is very fearful of strangers and needs slow introductions outside of the home first or will need to be crated when guests are over. Her new adopter will also need to agree on attending private training lessons with Nick at Critical Canine Development which her Foster Mom has graciously offered to Sponsor to ensure her new owner(s) understand Vera and her needs when it comes to other dogs and meeting new people.Vera responds quickly with an E-Collar and it’s recommended to continue the use of one even if it’s just set to vibrate. She upholds the Cattle Dog Stubbornness and tries to be a Boss Lady, but with continued training and patience she will reward you with so much love in return. I cannot stress enough that she REALLY does love her people and literally just wants to play and be given pets/belly rubs all day, every day.Do you or someone you know fit her needs? If so, please visit our website and apply today! Please submit an Adoption Application here: www.rocthedogsrescue.com

My given name from my foster mom is exactly who I am. Asta... this name means "divine strength", "love", and "star-like". I was abandoned by my first family on the side of the highway for a few months with my sister Kinsley. She was my protector during that time. I was terribly traumatized by being abandoned. Today I'm a shining star with beautiful grey eyes that match my coat. I like to play and go on backyard adventures with my sister and dog foster family. I like everyone and get along with other dogs and I'm a bit submissive and respectful towards everyone. I have beautiful pleading grey eyes that draw attention and make most ppl say awwwww and have a low key nature about me. We love each other very much and want to stay together for life! Please find it in your heart to adopt us together! We promise years of love and fun :) Local adoption fee together is $300 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee together is $600 (includes transport to your area, $50 temporary fuel fee will be included)

Story
Introducing Zeke, a truly remarkable pup whose heartwarming spirit and playful energy are ready to light up a new home. Zeke is a handsome, resilient boy who, through no fault of his own, found himself searching for a new home. He's more than ready to embark on his next chapter, seeking a loving, forever family to call his own. Zeke is a bundle of joyful energy, known for his silliness and ability to bring a smile to anyone's face. While he may start off shy, it doesn't take long for his true personality to shine through. He quickly becomes an enthusiastic playmate who thrives on the company of other dogs and will gleefully encourage them to play. Zeke is a smart and well-mannered companion. He is potty-trained and comfortable in his crate. He also knows basic commands like "sit" and "go to your room," and his eagerness to please makes him a joy to train further. While he’s working on managing his excitement (which sometimes results in enthusiastic leaps!), his good intentions are always clear. Walks are a highlight of his day, offering him a chance to explore and burn off some of that youthful energy. His barks will let you know precisely when he needs to go outside or when he hears you approaching the door. If you’re seeking an active, affectionate, and charming dog who promises boundless love and entertainment, Zeke could be the perfect addition to your home. Story
Noah is a smart, high-energy puppy who thrives on activity, structure, and plenty of fun. He loves playing with other dogs, doing zoomies around the yard, and chasing leaves as they blow by. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs and would do best with older kids since he still occasionally jumps when he gets excited—but he’s learning! Noah is crate trained and housebroken once he learns the routine of his home. He walks well on a leash and already knows sit and down. His foster family is currently working on stay, and he’s proving to be a quick learner. Because of his energy level, Noah needs an active family that willing to continue teaching him manners and training. His mama was an Australian Shepherd, and based on how the whole litter looks, his foster believes dad was a Boxer—giving him the perfect mix of smarts, athleticism, and playfulness. Noah is ready to find a family who can keep up with his zest for life and help him grow into the amazing dog he’s meant to be! Local adoption fee is $250(in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $550 (includes transport to your area)
