Ruby is now a healthy, happy 6-month-old pup weighing about 25 pounds, and her personality is absolute gold. Her favorite place in the world? Right next to a human. Why Everyone Falls in Love With Ruby    •    Sweet as sugar with the softest, most loving soul    •    Absolutely adores people and attention    •    Wonderful with children    •    Gets along beautifully with other dogs    •    Cat tested — she politely tucks her tail and runs the other way (zero interest)    •    Friendly, social, and eager to please    •    Doing AMAZING with leash training    •    Crate trained (or very close!) and learning routines quickly Ruby has the goofiest little happy dance, the gentlest nature, and a face that melts hearts instantly. She looks at her people like they hung the moon — and she truly means it. Ruby Is Ready for Her Forever After surviving on her own, Ruby deserves a home where she’ll always know she belongs — cozy couches, loving humans, and a life filled with safety and affection. Story
Introducing Stanley -- the goofy, big-hearted cattle dog who just wants someone to notice him!Stanley is our resident 5-year-old cattle dog with a silly personality and a big heart. This playful boy is toy-obsessed -- he loves carrying one around like a prized possession -- and he'll happily trade a game of fetch for a snack (or two...or three). He loves his walks and approaches exploring with great enthusiasm...just at a pace that leaves plenty of time for sniffing and maybe even a snack break. With people he trusts, Stanley's goofy, affectionate side shines brightly. But here's the part that breaks our hearts:Stanley is still here, and he wants YOU to notice him. He's confused, stressed, and trying so hard, but shelter life is wearing him down more each day. Stanley wasn't built for concrete floors, echoing hallways, or watching volunteers walk other dogs past his kennel. He was built for open spaces, wind in his coat, and paws hitting dirt instead of tile. Instead...he waits. And with little to no interest, the waiting is getting harder.Stanley is a loyal, one-person kind of guy. He needs: -A home with no other animals; -Room to run and decompress; -Someone who understands his breed; -A patient adopter or foster who can give him space, guidance, and the chance he's been longing for.He doesn't want perfection -- just a person. Someone to see past the kennel stress and recognize the fun, silly, devoted companion he is outside these walls.Right now, his world is a kennel. But it doesn't have to be.If you're looking for a best friend who's equal parts silly sidekick and loyal companion, Stanley's your guy! Come meet him...you just might be his person. You can begin the adoption process for Stanley right now by filling out an application on our website, www.humanecny.org; or email info@humanecny.org; or call us at (315) 457-8762.Contact HumaneCNY if interested in this animal. You can fill out application to adopt at the shelter.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Thank you for checking out our wonderful orphans. We try to post videos for each pet so you can really get to know them. If you would like to find out more please email or call Diane at... diane@ulpr.org or 870-577-3744. Meet Haumea – The Heart You Don’t Want to Overlook Haumea may not turn every head at first glance. She’s not the kind of dog most people would call “fancy,” and she doesn’t need to be. Her beauty lives deeper — in her eyes, in her steady presence, and in the gentle joy that radiates from her heart. If you pause for just a moment and truly look at her, you’ll see it — the quiet grace of a soul that’s pure, loyal, and endlessly loving. Haumea stays right by your side, as if she’s always known that companionship is life’s greatest gift. Her heart is joy in its most honest form. She gives it freely and asks for nothing more than a place to belong. Whoever looks past the surface and chooses this beautiful girl will gain more than a dog — they’ll gain comfort, laughter, and a love so constant it will change their days forever. Adopting Haumea won’t just be a good decision. It will be the best one you ever make.   Please email us at diane@ulpr.org and request an application. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 9, 2025, 1:23 am

Story
AKIRA gets lots of praise from her new foster. They say besides her beautiful looks, she's got a winning personality and loves others dogs and cats, and to play as well as a good snuggle. She's estimated young at 1-2 and fully vetted. She looks to be some kind of Corgi cattle dog type mix, and is only 36 lbs, so a perfect lapful! She can be on the shyer side and would benefit from another playful dog in the home for confidence. 👉 Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). If the dog is older than 6 months and not yet altered, we will schedule ASAP (normally within 30 days) at our clinic . We also provide as an incentive a $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes. Adoption also includes lifetime support of the rescue. 💜 Please click PURPLE BUTTON above to apply or go to www.secondhanddogrescue.com/apply ! ✍ APPLICATION PROCESSING: We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely volunteer foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available. 📌IMPORTANT NOTES: ** Housetraining with rescues is sometimes a work in progress and even if a dog is 100% in a foster's home, it should be expected there will be an adjustment period as a dog adapts to a new environment. This is even more true if the dog has not by chance had their altering appointment at time of adoption. ** Also, we highly recommend some form of 2-week shutdown and decompression for dogs going to a new home for best results. --> Lastly, breed guesses in rescue are just that (GUESSES!!) 99.9% of the time. We do not do DNA testing and our breed guesses are based on appearance and sometimes other traits, but we know the dog breed guessing game is a fool's errand even for those with LOTS of experience. 🗺 ADOPTION AREA: several hour radius of Rochester, NY (Canada within 3 hours IS allowed, except that young puppies need to be old enough to have gotten their rabies vaccination to cross the border - usually around 16 weeks)

Story
Meet MUMBLES! Mumbles is a 3 year old cattle dog mix. He is such a affectionate pup but does require an owner who understands the needs of his active breed (heeler/cattle dog). Mumbles is still very much a puppy and is VERY active, he can jump high so we do require applicants to always have him on a lead unless he's inside a 6' or higher fenced in yard. Mumbles is NOT good with other animals and needs to be the only animal in the home. He IS great with humans, though, including kids. Mumbles LOVES his humans, loves to play and would love a home to cuddle up by your side after a nice run in the yard. He does great with kids, responds to recall, and listens to commands. Mumbles is very obedient and eager to please his humans. 🤪He is not a great dog to take neighborhood walks with - we do have a professional dog walker who does it successfully, but if Mumbles sees another dog, he WILL lunge towards them. Luckily he's not very big (~45 lbs) so he's manageable for most people. If someone were vigilant, neighborhood walks may be okay with head on a swivel or a quiet neighborhood, but Mums is super reactive to other dogs. He'd love best to have a big fenced in yard with a 7' fence - but barring that, a vigilant walker in a quieter neighborhood (no apartment complexes with shared courtyard area, for example) could work. Mumbles' adoption fee is sponsored in part by a fan of his who wasn't able to adopt because of other dogs, for the right home. This dog is part of a partner rescue in NY, and is available to a larger distance from us than normal - within a few hour distance from Rochester, NY, OR between Rochester and NYC area and closer to the NY tri-state area.
