When Domino arrived, our hearts broke in a very specific way. He was happy. Thrilled, even. New dogs to play with. New people to charm. His tail was a blur and there was a bounce in his step that said, “Oh good -- this place is fun!!!”Then his person left.And if you’ve never watched a dog realize they’ve been left behind, it’s a quiet kind of devastation -- like a balloon slowly losing air. Domino didn’t cry or panic. He just… deflated.Domino is a healthy, affectionate, playful 2-year-old cattle dog mix who adores humans of all ages and dogs of all types. He landed here through no fault of his own -- or anyone’s, really. A sad twist of fate placed him in a home where another dog simply wasn’t comfortable with him. To keep Domino safe, his people made the heartbreaking decision to find him a place where he could relax, be himself, and never have to worry.Here’s the thing about Domino -- he’s a trooper. By the next day, he seemed to have made a decision. He shook it off. Tested out his tail. Realized it still wags. Then he got down to business: toys, playtime, and leaning into every human willing to sit still long enough to cuddle.But this isn’t the ending he deserves.Domino deserves a family of his own -- one where his joy doesn’t have to be brave, and where wagging his tail doesn’t come with an asterisk. Domino is waiting at Animal Aid Society, located at 80 Butler Farm Road in Hampton, VA. Visiting hours are 9am to noon, including weekends and holidays. Come meet him. Fair warning -- once you see that tail in action, it’s hard not to picture it wagging just for you.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. MAX - 6 years old, kid/cat/dog social, typical cattle dog behavior   Max is a vibrant and active boy surrendered for being too hyper and needing more room for his energy.   This dog needs exercise, playtime and room to move.  This dog needs exercise, playtime and room to move.  This dog needs exercise, playtime and room to move.    Reinforcing the fact that this boy is always on the move, please do some research on cattle dogs bc they, like all other breeds, have specific characteristics which may or may not align with your family's lifestyle.   Max is fun. He is the one bouncing off the walls. He is ready to go at all times.   He was silly in our shelter playgroup yard with the other dogs. He ran and chased and grabbed other dogs in his cattle dog style... always with a smile on his face!   Max is also great with children and cats.   He has some separation anxiety and is known to be destructive in the home if left alone. We recommend crating in these instances.
