Originally adopted from a shelter after likely raising more than her fair share of litters, Maggie is now looking for a better fit — a home that truly understands her needs and respects her boundaries. Maggie is the kind of dog who values connection but also independence. She loves pets and scratches, but on her terms — when she’s had enough, she’ll politely walk away like the classy lady she is. She’s not clingy or overly needy, but when she trusts you, her quiet loyalty speaks volumes. She loves her walks and takes her time exploring the world through her nose, making her the perfect companion for someone who enjoys a good stroll and doesn’t mind stopping to smell the roses (or fire hydrants). On walks, Maggie is well-mannered, and she’s been calm and friendly around children, happily accepting gentle pets without fuss. She’s not particularly social with other dogs, and larger dogs can make her nervous — she may bark at them, but it’s more about insecurity than aggression. Maggie would do best as the only pet in a calm household where she doesn’t feel the pressure to mingle with other animals. Currently weighing 33.8 pounds (as of 4/28/25), she’s a healthy girl with up-to-date vaccinations and a lot of life left to live. Ginger Snap and her sister, Roxy, were heartbreakingly abandoned in a neighborhood at the start of June. They wandered for weeks, searching for food, shelter, and kindness. Eventually, their story reached a kindhearted rescuer, and with the help of Critter Cavalry Rescue, they’re now safe, loved, and ready to find forever homes. Alfie is just the sweetest boy who is only 10 months old, weighs 48 pounds and has overcome so much in his young life. This boy has overcome such a deep shyness with meeting new people and his foster mom has helped him learn confidence and the acceptance of affection from people. He is a kind and sweet dog that is a medium energy, a kind spirit and good with other creatures in his life. He is good with cats, dogs and just needs a slow introduction with new people. He loves his walks on the leash in the neighborhood and they have helped him build such a confidence that he never had when he first came to Critter Cavalry Rescue. Oreo is 2 years old, lived in small apartment with very limited outside time or time around people/other dogs until May 2025. He’s very smart, very cuddly once he adjusts to you. New owner should have experience with reactive dogs, and patience. We’ve fostered him a month & and he’s already made great progress. We are retired and travel frequently, want him to find a loving and positive family. Absolutely beautiful, Oreo is also marked with an “incomplete” white heart on the back of his neck. Adoption fee will be donated to Animal Aid Society.

Coming Soon for Adoption in Portsmouth, VA Meet Winston, the happiest and goofiest boy! Winston is an approximately 1 year old Australian Shepherd mix that will steal your heart! He is about 35 lbs (still has some filling out to do), neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations and preventatives. Winston is mostly potty trained and can typically be kenneled for several hours before needing to go potty. He knows basic obedience like sit, lay down, come, wait, and leave it. He is higher energy and does still have some puppy behaviors like wanting to tear up toys and counter surfing. These behaviors are easily curbed with observation and consistency. A little redirection goes a long way. Winston loves people! He has yet to meet a person that he does not instantly want to give kisses. He is kennel trained and goes in well for a treat or Kong. He will get into things and pace a lot if he is not kenneled during the day when no one is home. He is a super chewer, but thankfully he limits his chewing to dog toys mostly. Did I mention that he is OBSESSED with toys! Be prepared to pick up every single toy that you own on a regular basis. Winston would love at least one other dog friend to play with. He gets along with most everyone (cats, dogs, chickens), with the exception that he has not been tested around kids or small dogs. He loves the cats and will try to follow them everywhere and play with them if they’ll let him. He can be a little overwhelming to them sometimes, but the “leave it” command gets him to stop quickly. He will chase if they run. We suggest no cats, unless you have a confident and dog savvy cat that is not scared of dogs. Winston is an absolute sweetheart. He would be great for anyone looking for an active, playful pup. Being in his humans personal space and squeaking toys are his favorite things to do. Winston is the squishiest, sometimes clumsiest, and sweetest boy you will find! You will not be disappointed by what this guy has to offer!
