Hi, I’m Pickles! 🐾 I’m a survivor of Devore Shelter, and like many dogs there, I was misunderstood at first. When I arrived, I was scared and overwhelmed — the shelter is a tough place, especially for a sensitive guy like me. Because I was nervous and dealing with kennel cough, I was labeled “rescue only” and placed on the euthanasia list. But here’s the truth: I’m not aggressive — I was just afraid. And honestly, a shelter is no place for any dog. Since being rescued by Akira Animal Rescue, I’ve been coming out of my shell and showing my true personality. I’m incredibly affectionate — at my recent vet visit, I couldn’t stop pawing everyone to ask for pets! When I first meet new people, I may freeze for a moment while I figure things out, but once I realize I’m safe and getting love, my little nub tail starts wagging and I happily lean in. I’m crate trained and food-motivated (maybe a little too motivated — I use a slow feeder because I tend to guzzle!). I’ve got some nervous energy and could use more walks and leash practice, which would help me settle even more. I also enjoy chewing, so my foster sticks with durable chews like hooves and hard toys — they keep me busy and happy. I do great with small dogs and dogs around my size (I’m about 35 lbs), but large male dogs can scare me. I’d do best in a home that understands dog dynamics and can help me feel confident and secure. I’m very loyal to my people and a bit protective of them — once you’re my human, I’m all in. 💛 With patience, structure, and love, I truly shine. I’m sweet, affectionate, and just looking for a calm, committed home where I can continue learning that the world is a good place. Could that be with you?

Darby is vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed. She is currently in training with our trainers and continuing to socialize with other dogs. SHYA is a 1 year 3 month old Australian Kelpie, weighing about 28lbs. She was lost and taken to an overcrowded shelter where she was not claimed in time and was due to be euthanized, but was saved by an emergency foster at the last minute. She now needs her forever home as soon as possible. Shya is very sweet and loving, but a bit shy, timid and scared (non-aggressive, submissive), and needs preferably a female human with a little time and patience to help her learn to trust again. She settled into her foster home within a couple of hours, and is very playful and affectionate with her foster mom. She loves cuddles and belly rubs! Shya does suffer from some separation anxiety, and will need to be helped through this. Shya gets on well with other dogs. Submissive and cautious at first, she loves to chase and be chased by small dogs, or dogs her own size. Wrestling is also great fun! She is good with large, chill dogs, but scared of boisterous dogs, or dogs that bark continually. SHYA is fully housebroken, spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations. She is smart, with a lovely temperament, and will make a wonderful addition to a loving person’s life. Berri is such an ez gal. She was rescued from Kern County Animal Services a few months ago. She has settled in great. Berri would do best in a quieter adult household, but active for walks and hikes. She is the cutest girl, her lip gets stuck on her tooth and even her tongue hangs out sideways as a treat. She is loving and very house respectful. Berri weighs 50 pounds and is about 5 years old. This is Louie. He is such a wonderful boy. I was alerted to his situation which was he was ready to be be killed at SEAACA shelter in Downey... just because. Louie has decompressed and is doing so great at his foster home. He loves the outdoors... loves his walks. Great on a leash. He is potty trained and will let you know when he has to go. Loves mental stimulation and learning new games. Louie is also crate trained. All dogs in our program are up to date on all their shots, spayed or neutered, and micro chipped. Beautiful Maggie was rescued from Kern County Animal Services with her one puppy Otis who has been adopted. We got them on last call. They were both headed for the euthanasia room. Maggie is doing wonderful. She is a lay on her back for belly rubs kind of gal. She loves to have a dog pal by her side, but could also be an only dog.
