Story
Due to an upcoming move and the sale of our home, we urgently need a foster placement for this dog. We have been helping care for them for several years after our daughter was unable to do so because of personal circumstances. We’ve done everything we can, but time has run out and we need help as soon as possible. Shanka (roughly 4 yrs old and 25lbs) is alert and curious, with a bright personality and an athletic build. He enjoys being aware of his surroundings and does well with routine and gentle guidance. He would thrive in a home that can offer stability, daily movement, and reassurance. Shanka deserves stability and kindness, and fostering him would give him chance to land safely while a permanent solution is found. If you can help, even temporarily, it would mean the world to them—and to us. Love, Jen and Phil

Story
We adopted Bella from the Humane Society when she was four months old, and she has grown into a sweet, clever, and energetic dog. I’m looking for a home that can give her the care she truly needs including plenty of exercise, consistent routines, and social time with other dogs. Bella can be a little skittish at first, but once she trusts you, she becomes a very affectionate, clingy companion. She is extremely smart and learns quickly when someone gives her patience and guidance. She would thrive with an active family or someone familiar with working or high-energy breeds. I want to make sure she goes to a safe, stable, and loving home.

Story
Meet Paige Paige is a beautiful young dog. She was surrendered when her family became homeless. They couldn’t care for Paige any longer. They came to our shelter on the very last day of 2025, exhausted and heartbroken. The surrender was tough. Paige was scared and sad, but the family was at peace knowing Paige would be safe at our no kill shelter. Paige is a two-year-old medium sized dog, about 33 - 35 lbs. She has a gorgeous black coat, alert eyes and a friendly smile. It’s hard to know her breeds, but she most looks like an Australian Kelpie, with perhaps a little Dutch Shepherd thrown in. We aren’t really sure though. She is coming out of her shell and showing her personality to our staff. But she is still scared and uncertain and very sad. She wants to trust us but is timid. Only when we get her walking and we talk to her does she begin to relax. We’ve moved her to a quieter location where she can decompress. It seems to be helping. She’s eating better but is still so thin. Her owners said she loves fetch, jumps for attention and gives hugs. Paige likes people, does well with kids, and likes dogs. She lived with a cat and should be fine with one as long as introductions are handled responsibly. Paige walks well on a leash and she’s housetrained too. Paige is a great young dog. She’s just lost everything but is trying hard to be brave. She loves going into the yard with our staff. She’s curious and likes to sniff, but has a wonderful habit of checking in. She’s a sweet girl and will be a wonderful addition to your family. If looking for a medium sized, smart and beautiful dog who just needs some TLC, get your application in for Paige. Story
Meet Peanut Peanut is a cute little dog with a BIG personality. Peanut was recently returned to us due to his high energy and willful ways. He did great in a home, he loved his people and they love him, but Peanut can be a bit challenging. He needs to be able to run and play and expend his limitless energy. For one so small, this boy needs to be exercised or else he gets bored. And we all know a bored pup is never well-behaved lol! Peanut looks like an Australian cattle dog or kelpie mix, but it’s hard to know without a DNA test. He is adorable and has a cuddly side, but he’s also 29 lbs. of energy, smarts and will. You can see the intelligence in his eyes. They sparkle and dance with anticipation of something fun to do. We stress this because he is so cute, people can’t imagine that he needs so much exercise or understand how willful he can be. Even his foster dad says, the boy is an energizer bunny and is happier when he’s run it out. Peanut likes playing with other dogs. Another equally active dog in the home would be good. He does well with cats too, especially cats that stand their ground. Peanut might be best in a house with no children because he has had episodes of food guarding. He would do best with experienced dog owners, especially those who know the cattle dog breeds. Peanut has the ability to challenge and push boundaries. He’d do best with a person who has a strong, steady and consistent approach and presence to guide him. Peanut might even make for a great agility dog, an activity that works his mind and athletic abilities, while bonding him to his person. He’d be a great trail dog. Peanut isn’t a big barker. He knows how to live in a house. He likes his chew toys. He walks well on a leash. Peanut will be a great companion for someone who is looking for an energetic, smart, agile, handsome, and eager to go pup. BUT if you are thinking about Peanut because he looks cute and cuddly, this is not the dog for you. Only experienced dog owners should apply. That said, we think he has tremendous potential to be the dog of a lifetime with the right kind of guidance and training. If interested in welcoming Peanut to your heart and home, please submit an application online at: www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org. Please email our shelter (smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net) or call our shelter at 706-865-4135 and leave a message to make sure we received your application. Story
2 yr old tricolor M/N Kelpie/GSD mix Looking for a dogs dog?? Gunner is your guy! He was comfortable enough around me, allowed touch, took treats, interacted some with me, but he really really wanted to play with the big dog in the next yard. He wasn't aloof though! Took treats gently, eager to please and loved being called a good boi, it was a fun yard time for both us us He does seem to be feeling the stress from the shelter, some have had some trouble getting him out of his kennel but he was perfectly behaved for me. This is an active breed, he will need consistent physical and mental exercise to be happy, it is likely what is causing his current stress and occasional barrier reactivity. It is worth noting that he was a very loud bork monster when I first approached his kennel but after 3 treats he was ready to follow me anywhere I was going Knows how to sit, walks well on the leash (just a tiny bit of pulling) and seemed potty trained!! ##2528145##
