Story
Maverick is a lover and full of energy. He's great at his job as a herder, but we don't have the time or space for it that he needs. His breed "nips" which we were unaware of before purchasing him. He loves to play with our toddler, but sometimes the hair pulling causes him to nip.

Meet KRYPTO, The Super-Pup “almost” trained ✨ If you’ve ever wished for your very own superhero sidekick, look no further—Krypto is ready to leap into your life! This fun, spunky little foster pup is named after Superman’s dog for a reason: he’s brave, bright, and bursting with playful energy. Whether he’s chasing toys at super speed or wrestling with other dogs, Krypto brings joy to everyone he meets! And here’s the best part—this hero-in-training already has some amazing skills under his cape: ✔️ Potty trained ✔️ Crate trained ✔️ Well-mannered ✔️ Gets along with all humans and dogs Krypto is eager to be your perfect companion—loyal, loving, and always by your side. Krypto is looking for a family who loves playful pups, appreciates his goofy charm, and is excited to help him continue growing into the superhero he’s destined to be. He can’t wait to fly into his forever home! ‍♂️ All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped and if over 6 months of age, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative in their foster home. We require an approved application to meet any of our dogs. We do not have a shelter location and will not arrange a meeting without an approved application. We strive to make sure the bios provided for our dogs are complete and accurate; we do understand that mistakes happen, however, so if you absolutely cannot find the answer to your question in the dog's bio, you can contact us for more information. We require a home visit for each dog we adopt out, so we adopt within a 2 hour radius of Dayton, OH. If you are outside of this radius, we encourage you to contact your local rescue or shelter.   April 16, 2026, 7:32 pm

Story
Meet Grayson! Grayson is a 2 year old mix, possibly Australian Shepherd or border collie. He is currently in his adoptive home, but unfortunately it is not working out so we are looking for a new place for him to go. We do not have any open foster homes, so we are trying to place him directly into an adoptive home. The good: Grayson is a smart, happy, friendly, playful, affectionate, active boy. He likes other dogs and is OK with confident cats. He likes children. The bad: He can be a bit too playful for older dogs, shy cats or small children.Since he’s most likely, some type of herding breed mixed with something else, he does have a lot of energy, and he does need to be kept busy. If not, he might make his own type of fun, and typical of those breeds he can be a little bit noisy when he’s bored. ;) He also likes to drink… a lot… which means he has to pee… a LOT. Unfortunately he’s not good at holding it. He’s been seen by 2 vets, and neither have found anything wrong. We think he might be better with a dog door and a fenced in yard, or to have a home that spends a lot of time outside. Of course he needs to be inside at night, and we were told that he can usually hold it overnight in a crate if he is let out last thing at night and first thing in the morning. If you think your family would be a good fit for this beautiful boy, please submit an application at www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adoptIf you are interested in adopting this pet, please go to www.midwestpetrefuge.com/adopt to complete an application. Completing a questionnaire on any other website does not submit an application to our rescue, you must complete one on our website. If you have any questions, please email us at adopt@MidwestPetRefuge.com

Story
Meet Lil! Lil is a sweet and shy 3 year old Mini Aussie looking for her forever home after overcoming a difficult start to life in a puppy mill. Despite her past, she is house-trained and will use pee pads as she adjusts to new surroundings. Initially timid, Lil warms up to become a devoted cuddler once she feels safe. She thrives with the presence of a confident dog who can help her feel secure. While she tolerates men, she is much more comfortable around women and may take extra time to trust. Lil is also fearful of leashes and harnesses, so she will need a patient owner to gently introduce her to these items. Lil’s ideal home includes a securely fenced yard for her safety and exercise. She would do best with older children who understand her fears and can respect her need for space. Her new family should be patient, understanding, and willing to give her the time she needs to blossom into the loving companion she’s meant to be. Currently, Lil is on daily Prozac to help manage her anxiety, and her future family should be prepared to continue supporting her emotional well-being. If you’re ready to provide Lil with the love, patience, and safe environment she deserves, she could become a loyal and loving member of your family. Come meet Lil today and see the sweet companion she’s ready to be! Lil is currently being fostered in the Cincinnati, OH area. Her adoption fee is $300. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible.
