Story
Storm is being returned through no fault of her own. Storm is 2.5 years old, about 60/70 lbs. Storm is great with kids and leaves cats alone. She’s never been in a kennel, but the owner is working on kennel training now. She is house trained. Storm was sleeping in bed with adopter until she had a baby. Storm lives with another very submissive dog and does fine with him but the adopter mentioned that she would not do well with another dominant dog. She’s more of a people dog than dog’s dog. Storm is a barker, but mostly outdoors.

HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by request. To schedule a time to meet this dog, please contact Cassandra at cjohnson@arl-iowa.org. ---- Great dog with tons of potential who is looking for a special family who will continue working with him to help him gain confidence and learn that life is full of great things. If you're up to the challenge, read on! - Came from an environment where he did not get the normal socialization that most puppies get, so the world is still a very scary place for him - Has come a long way in the weeks we have been working with him, and will take treats from people he has a relationship with and even some guests coming to his foster home - We are requiring a fenced yard to ensure he stays safe and secure as he has had no experience with being on leash though he is making slow progress! - We've seen lots of progress, but things such as petting from strangers, leashing up, and anything a "normal" dog would like can still be quite scary for him, so he will need continued help over time from his new family - Leaving interactions 100% up to him and using treats as rewards are great ways to gain him trust; he LOVES having the choice to interact and have his space when he feels uncomfortable - Has done best with other dogs and would really benefit from a calm, confident dog friend in his new home so he can follow their lead and build confidence by watching them navigate daily life - Needs a teens-and-up home right now, as young children are way too much for him. A mature, structured home would be perfect! - Since he's still learning to live with people, vet visits will have to be approached differently, so it will be important to talk with your veterinarian about ways to help him be most comfortable - Has done well with being crated in his foster home - Looking for a predictable home with very patient people who understand that it will take him not days but weeks to become completely comfortable. If you're willing to give him that time, you'll see, just as we have, that he is worth the wait! It will be incredibly rewarding to watch him become more trusting every day! The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: Black Weight: 35 Age: 1yrs 7mths 3wks

Story
Hi! My name is Jasper! I am a 3 year old purebred Australian Shepherd. I am super playful and have LOTS of energy--I will play for DAYS! Unfortunately, I do suffer from quite a bit of fear and anxiety. My mom uses a prong collar when she takes me out because I bark and lunge at other people and pets when on walks. I'd definitely do best in a home with a fenced-in yard for that reason. I also need a home where I'd probably be the only pet. I need to be fed alone because I always protect my food by attacking other pets in my house when they get too close to my food dish. I do like playing with medium to bigger dogs so I may do well in a home with them if we are fed separately. But NO CATS! I do not get along with the cat in my current house which is why I need to find a new home. Despite some of my behavioral issues, I am VERY loyal and sweet once I bond with a person. I can take a while to warm up to new people but usually if you feed me a few treats, I become your new best friend.

Story
Meet Magellan! He had been living on the street for a few months when someone asked if we could take him in. He’s sooooo happy and bouncy! He weighs 51 pounds and is about a year old, still a baby with sparkling white teeth! He is GREAT with the other dogs in the yard and so he is able to run free with the front yard pack. He has a chill disposition and isn’t dominant with the other dogs. Believe it or not, sometimes street dogs can be more well adjusted than a dog that is owner surrendered! He’s probably even good with cats, we can always cat test any dog! Magellan loves to play! He would be a great addition to any home!IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. If you are seeing our pets posted in your state, that's because you live near a transport stop, they are not currently at that location. Petfinder lists our pets as 'Out of Town' pets at other locations, and Adopt-a-Pet lists our location as a Transport stop. Those are currently the only options they offer to make this clear, so we put this description we've put at the bottom to explain it. You can read more about transport here: www.charmingpetrescue.org/transportWe understand transport is not an option for everyone, but we offer it at the cost we pay the transport company for those who wish to adopt from us.May 7, 2024, 9:03 pm
