Story
Meet Layla — a 7‑year‑old, 63‑lb Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix with the gentlest spirit and an old‑soul presence!   Quick Facts: Name: Layla Breed: Australian Shepherd/Border Collie Age: 7 years old Weight: 63 lbs. House-Trained: Yes Crate-Trained: No Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Not tested, but likely ok Good with Kids: Yes – she LOVES kids Energy Level: Low Fence Required: No Medical Notes: Layla is currently undergoing treatment for Lyme Disease.   About Layla’s Breed: Our best guess is that Layla is a Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mixed breed. Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mixes are known for their intelligence, sensitivity, and deep devotion to their people. They’re thoughtful, intuitive dogs who often form strong bonds and enjoy being close to their humans, making them wonderful companions for someone who appreciates a calm but emotionally connected dog. While they can be active and enjoy outdoor adventures, many settle beautifully into a relaxed home routine, especially as they mature.   Their ideal home is one that offers companionship, gentle structure, and daily walks or light adventures. They thrive with someone who enjoys spending time at home, appreciates their quiet loyalty, and understands their sensitive nature. With love, patience, and a peaceful environment, this mix becomes an incredibly devoted, steady, and soulful family member.   What to Love about Layla: One look into Layla’s eyes and you can see her quiet wisdom and deep appreciation for kindness. She is incredibly people‑oriented and happiest simply being near her person, soaking in peaceful moments and offering her calm companionship.   Layla would be a wonderful match for someone newly retired or anyone who spends a lot of time at home. She loves relaxing outside while her human reads or works, content to rest by your side. She’s not overly food‑motivated but enjoys a good treat, loves ear scratches and big hugs, and has a way of looking at you with genuine gratitude when she receives affection. She sleeps soundly through the night — with a cute little snore — and is fully potty trained. Despite her thick coat, she does not shed!   She is mildly indifferent to other dogs and clearly prefers human company, though she gets along well with calm dogs and would be perfectly happy as your one and only. She hasn’t met cats yet, but her gentle nature suggests she’d likely do well with a proper introduction. Layla is wonderful with children of all ages and loves the soft “hugs” and pets she gets from the kids in her foster home. She doesn’t have an aggressive bone in her body!   Layla enjoys leisurely walks in the woods or around the neighborhood and is excellent on a leash — no pulling, just a calm stroll by your side. She has low energy at home but looks forward to her daily walks and weekend hikes. She was neglected before rescue and, because of that, has some separation anxiety. She needs a patient, loving family who can help her feel secure and teach her that she will never be left behind again. She’s not destructive when left alone, but she is still working on feeling comfortable in a crate.   Layla is the epitome of sweetness, gentleness, and quiet love! She’s ready to join a calm, caring home where she can finally relax, feel safe, and spend the rest of her life knowing she is cherished.   Layla’s Lovely Highlights: 7‑year‑old, 63‑lb Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix with a calm, old‑soul presence Exceptionally kind, gentle, and deeply people‑oriented — happiest simply being near her person Fully potty trained, quiet in the home, and rarely barks Low energy indoors but enjoys daily walks and weekend hikes at a relaxed pace Wonderful with children of all ages and loves gentle hugs and pets Mildly indifferent to other dogs; prefers humans but does well with calm canine companions Great on a leash — walks politely without pulling Has some separation anxiety due to past neglect and needs a patient, loving home to help her feel secure Does not shed despite her thick coat and sleeps soundly through the night (with a cute snore!) The epitome of sweetness and gratitude, ready for a calm, loving forever family where she can feel safe and cherished   Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. to ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/. Story
Fluffy is a 9-year-old male Australian Shepherd mix looking for a loving new home. He’s a sweet, low energy dog who absolutely loves cuddling and will happily climb into your lap for belly rubs. He enjoys being outdoors and relaxing with his people. Fluffy knows a few commands like sit, lay down, and paw, and he’s very food motivated. He would do best in a home with a fenced yard or where he can be kept on a leash, as he sometimes likes to take off and turn it into a game of chase. He’s great with kids but cannot live with cats or other small animals, and he can be a bit territorial around food and treats. This is a very difficult decision due to a divorce and a long-distance move. My goal is simply to find Fluffy a safe, loving home where he can continue to be the cuddly companion he is.

Story
Located in Raleigh. He’s been with the same owner since he was a puppy. He gets along with his older “brother” dog but reactive around other animals and people. He needs an experienced owner that can provide him with the authority and love he needs. He’s housebroken and crate trained. He sometimes sleeps in the bed or in the bathroom or in his crate by choice. He walks decent on a leash but he is eager to learn by the right person. He no longer gets the time and attention he needs. He deserves a loving and caring home that can spend enough time with him.He was recently diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease and had acute pancreatitis. He is on a prescription low fat diet and is taking steroids to help with the inflammation. He also takes Prozac to help calm him down around children in the house.

Story
Is he stunning? Yes, he is. Is he smart? Yes he is. Is he a silly, goofy ball of big energy? Yes he is. Can he be yours? Yes, he can! Aragon is a younger adult Aussie mix who has the coat of a lion and the heart of a clown with LOTS of energy! Aragon is an adult who weighs about 50 lbs, maybe a third of which is his hair. Aragon absolutely is an example of his breed with high energy and a strong drive to play, learn and do. He is the kind of guy that would love some adventuring pawrents, lots of walks and hikes and would likely be a fab jogging partner as well! He is not likely a good match for apartment living and would much prefer places to run and roam. He does well with other dogs and has preferred those who play hard like he does. Aragon is ready to be your fuzzy bear and exercise partner all rolled up into one.

Story
Meet Phoenix Wright! Phoenix is a happy, playful, active Australian Shepherd mix puppy. Phoenix is part of a large, accidental litter that was born in a home and socialized early. Though we have been told that the parents are Australian Shepherds, we cannot guarantee a breed or adult size. Phoenix and the rest of his litter are very stereotypical Aussies though! Phoenix is a big boy for his age--bigger than his sister, for sure! He may be on the larger size when fully grown. He is being fostered with one of his sisters, Maya Fey (Fey). They play hard in a fenced yard, then sleep hard on the patio furniture or in their crate. Phoenix loves playing with toys and playmates, snuggling with people or dogs, and discovering the outside world. He currently lives with other dogs and older children and does fine with all of them. So far he has only been vocal when playing, however we cannot guarantee his suitability for an apartment. Phoenix is a typical Aussie mix puppy: smart, social, playful, and energetic! His ideal home would provide patience and consistency in his training so he can be his best self, and would provide activity and stimulation. He could live with another dog or as an only dog who gets to play with dog friends regularly. Phoenix is a happy, sweet boy who would love to play and snuggle with his people!

Story
(10/04/2024) Chesney is a cheerful guy and happy to participate in any fun, family daily activities. He would be very happy to join a family with another playful dog(s), kids that want to play fetch, or even a home with cats!!! Due to his playful exuberance, older kids are recommended to ensure everyone has a great time together. Chesney has "passed" his cat test and would be ok joining a family with kitties in their home. Chesney is a young, energetic dog with a heart full of enthusiasm and a love for the great outdoors. He's incredibly athletic and thrives on playing fetch and chasing after balls; he's always ready for his next adventure! Chesney is super friendly, eager to please his people, and loves being part of the action. He's food-motivated and responds well to praise, making training a fun and rewarding experience. While he's crate trained, Chesney isn't a big fan of the crate. With a little continued practice, he's sure to become even more confident on walks. Chesney would flourish in a home with a young, active family, especially one where someone works from home or can provide daycare to keep him happily busy. If you're looking for a lively, affectionate companion who will keep you on your toes and bring endless joy to your home, Chesney might just be your perfect match! As part of Chesney’s $300 adoption fee, he will be neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. If you have questions about this sweet little boy, you can email  Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org.  If you wish to adopt Chesney, you can fill in an online application for him under the Adopt a Pet Tab on our website:  www.pawsforlifenc.org. ##2392608##
