WEACT visited the Wanju Animal Shelter for the second phase of rescues as part of the Save Us Project (Monthly Sponsorship), which aims to give new lives to dogs facing euthanasia. On the day of our visit, we were overwhelmed with shock. The shelter's exterior, barely held together by tarps, looked more like a prison than a kennel. Inside, large dogs were tethered to short leashes in cramped spaces, each struggling to survive. These dogs had been living for years on just a 50cm-long leash. While they were able to eat and drink enough to survive, there was no sign of a life worth living for these animals. WEACT rescued five dogs suffering in the cold winter, including #weact_camel, from the Wanju Shelter.

Sonny and Cher were found running the streets in South LA, weaving in and out of traffic and circling the blocks scavenging and desperate for food. He had on a collar so our director watched them for a good 30-40 minutes, hoping they would run home... They suddenly ended up on the steps to the 77th Police Station where they found some old pizza in a planter. They then proceeded to patrol access and people were too afraid to approach the entrance to the Police station with them guarding the steps, and no one came out or stopped to help, so with only 2 cans of cat food and 1/2 a sandwich from lunch our director decided to see if they would be friends or foes. Immediately Cher ran up and said hello -- it took about 20 minutes but she was able to get her to jump in the car... Sonny was a whole other story ... it took about 2 hours to catch him, but eventually, the car-trap worked and the duo, as if finally sensing they were safe, curled up into each other for a long rest. Neither dog was chipped, Cher was in heat, and Sonny was her devoted bodyguard ... we don't know if/when/how they came together -- but once they were both fixed the bond was broken. He is SUCH a little love -- he does have a bit of separation anxiety now -- but that's likely because he finally feels safe. He is gentle and sweet and seems to have been potty trained but had clearly never been on a leash and it didn't seem like he was touched very much -- now he LOVES it! And he's getting used to the leash and is a champ in a crate - such a fast learner and a very good boy. We have been looking for their people but no one has come forward and it's time they found homes and someone of their own who can really love and care for them. Luna is a very young sweet energetic girl . She enjoys running at the park and grazing . She is crate trained and potty trained . She is very sweet and loves cuddles and face rubs . She also loves walks is eager to smell some grass . I found her under a car at the beginning of November and then had help pulling her from the shelter . Ive now fostered her for a while and have gotten to know this sweet girl very well. She had a terrible skin condition that I am happy to say is gone and her fur is completely grown back . She is very independent as a full time college student with 5 other pets I dont give her as much attention as she deserves and still she is happy as ever to see me. It took me several days to gain her trust so she is a dog that takes time to adjust . I would love to help find/pay a trainer for her future adopter .

WEACT received a tip in March of 2021 that there were dogs dying at #HwaseongPaltanDogFarm. Upon seeing the stiff bodies of the dogs in the photos, we immediately headed to Hwaseong. The site was even more terrifying in person. There were 12 neglected dogs either trapped in small cages or tied up on short leashes with only food waste in a bowl. Without proper shelter, they had to endure extreme weather conditions and fear for their lives. Thanks to the help from our volunteers and RE:BIRTH, we were able to rescue all 12 dogs as well as three stray dogs nearby. #weact_rinda was finally able to escape from the cold, dark place and finally get to know the beautiful world waiting for her.

n December 2019, the #SiheungDogFarm entered the spotlight as the story of Yumi emerged—a dog that miraculously escaped with extensive burns covering its entire body. Another animal welfare organization initially launched a rescue operation, but on Christmas Day, the owner transferred all the animals to a different dog farm. Although their whereabouts remained elusive, persistent efforts eventually convinced the farm owner to surrender them. However, the time spent in slaughterhouses had inflicted profound trauma on these dogs. Taking charge of the situation, WEACT and volunteers provided ceaseless day and night care, leading to the successful rescue of 65 animals from the #SiheungDogFarm. Due to their profound trauma and injuries inflicted by humans, it necessitated an extended period of time and heightened effort to rehabilitate them. Even four years down the line, WEACT remains steadfast in its mission to facilitate the adoption of dogs from #SiheungDogFarm. #weact_betty was one of the rescues from this very location.
